Martin Krallinger. |
This is the second part of the talk ‘A Framework for BioCuration Workflows’, given by Martin Krallinger from the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre at the 'Text Mining for the BioCuration Workflow' workshop. The first part was held by Gully APC Burns (USC Information Sciences Institute, USA). This presentation covered some of the main general tasks often shared by existing literature biocuration workflows: Identification of relevant articles, identification and normalization of the actual bio-entities, the extraction of the annotation event and the identification of some evidential support (e.g. experimental evidence). Some of the important aspects, bottlenecks and potential text mining approaches were briefly... |

A genetic map of olive tree (Olea europaea; 2n = 46) was constructed with a total of 343 markers: 35 SSRs, 272 AFLPs, 35 ISSRs, and RAPD and SCAR scored in 140 F1 progenies from the cross between ‘Picholine marocaine’ ‘PM’ (female parent) and ‘Picholine du Languedoc’‘PL’ (male parent), respectively susceptible and resistant to Spilocaea oleagina. The female map consisted of 100 markers clustered in 24 linkage groups (LG) and covered over 1260.9 cM, while the male map was defined by 90 markers assigned to 22 linkage groups and covered 1183 cM. The consensus map obtained based on 193 markers (26 SSRs, 151 AFLPs, 12 ISSRs, 3 RAPDs, 1 SCAR) and 31 linkage groups covered 2332.8 cM. |

Tellurium is a rare element which has been regarded as a toxic, non-essential trace element and its biological role is not clearly established to date. Besides of that, the biological effects of elemental tellurium and some of its inorganic and organic derivatives have been studied, leading to a set of interesting and promising applications. As an example, it can be highlighted the uses of alkali-metal tellurites and tellurates in microbiology, the antioxidant effects of organotellurides and diorganoditellurides and the immunomodulatory effects of the non-toxic inorganic tellurane, named AS-101, and the plethora of its uses. Inasmuch, the nascent applications of organic telluranes (organotelluranes) as protease inhibitors and its applications in disease... |

This paper describes a global model for agriculture and bioenergy (GLOMAB) that incorporates biomass, biofuels and bioelectricity sectors into the GTAP-Energy model by expanding the global GTAP database, production and consumption structures. Biofuels are separated between first- generation (sugar ethanol, starch ethanol) and second- generation (cellulosic ethanol) biofuels and associated biomass feedstocks (maize, sugar cane, crop residues, woody biomass). Beside biofuels, the model also incorporates bioelectricity (as separate form conventional electricity) which competes for the same biomass feedstocks with cellulosic ethanol sector (agricultural residues, woody biomass). With this broad-based representation of the bioenergy system likely to prevail... |

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) in cattle has caused significant economic losses to livestock producers and has proven difficult to eradicate. It is suspected that cattle movement across different farms and regions is one of the key factors of bTB transmission in the United States. Prior attempts to model the epidemiology of bTB infection within cattle to predict disease transmission have not adequately captured the behavioral aspects of trade. A better understanding of livestock trade patterns would help in predicting disease transmission and the associated economic effects. In this paper, we develop a gravity model of livestock trade and link it to an epidemiological model of bTB transmission, with the goal being that this information could lead to improved... |
