Sanitation systems discharge diffusion into sea and operational management of their impacts on bathing water quality The new European Directive concerning the management of bathing water quality drives the littoral communities towards operational management tools for an actual management of the beaches according to the impacts of the urban discharges. Beyond the progressive modernisation of the sanitation system itself, taking into account globally all the chronic factors impacting the beaches is only made possible by using decision-making systems based on a better knowledge of the sources of contamination and on the numerical modelling of the diffusion into the sea. Such a system, easy to operate, was developed by Veolia and Ifremer for the agglomeration... |

Although many oceanographic data products are now considered operational, continued dialogue between data producers and their user communities is still needed. The fisheries and environmental science communities have often been criticized for their lack of multidisciplinarity, and it is not clear whether recent developments in operational oceanographic products are addressing these needs. The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) Working Group on Operational Oceanographic products for Fisheries and Environment (WGOOFE) identified a potential mismatch between user requirements and the perception of requirements by the providers. Through a questionnaire (98 respondents), WGOOFE identified some of these issues. Although products of... |

This text presents a review of the various technologies for exploitation of renewable marine energy resources. Il exposes the solutions offered by tide and currents, swell and waves, the marine wind energy, the Ocean Thermal Energy, the osmotic energy and specifies the various degrees of technological maturity for each solution. This new economic activity on the littoral and coastal areas also contains indirect effects in terms of management which are called back. The inter-tropical islands benefit from a very vast potential for the insertion of these renewable sources of energy in their mix of energy production. Although the exploitation of these energies is not still the object of a programming in New Caledonia, an overview of the specificities of the... |

This paper -presents the PREVIMER project which aims to provide a wide range of coastal areas users, always in increasing number: with observations, modelling tools and real-time forecasts, taking account of the statutory context. PREVIMER is based on observations and coastal ocean modelling, The www.previmer.org website displays for the French coastline, forecasts of current strength and direction, wave height and direction, sea water level, storm surge, temperature, salinity, nutrients and phytoplankton. These data and their analyses are going to be essential information for the coastal zone usage or management. |
