Base temperature and simulation model for nodes appearance in cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana L.) Rev. Bras. Frutic.

Data was analyzed on development of the solanaceen fruit crop Cape gooseberry to evaluate how well a classical thermal time model could describe node appearance in different environments. The data used in the analysis were obtained from experiments conducted in Colombia in open fields and greenhouse condition at two locations with different climate. An empirical, non linear segmented model was used to estimate the base temperature and to parameterize the model for simulation of node appearance vs. time. The base temperature (Tb) used to calculate the thermal time (TT, ºCd) for node appearance was estimated to be 6.29 ºC. Development and quality of pineapple guava fruit in two locations with different altitudes in Cundinamarca, Colombia Bragantia

Fruit growth is stimulated by different weather conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of weather conditions on the physicochemical properties of pineapple guava fruit growth. Twenty trees were marked in two production areas located at different altitudes (1,800 and 2,580 m.a.s.l.), and measurements were performed every 7 days from 99 and 141 days post-anthesis to harvest at altitudes of 1,800 and 2,580 m.a.s.l., respectively. The results indicate that altitude and weather conditions greatly influence the growth and development of pineapple guava fruit, and these effects are primarily manifested in the physical characteristics of the fruit. El ensayo se llevó a cabo en la finca El Cortijo (La Vega, Cundinamarca, Colombia [04°55'N y 74°18'W], 2350 m altitud, 17°C temperatura media, 1423 mm precipitación anual, 85% humedad relativa, 1377 horas brillo solar/año). Se utilizaron árboles de feijoa o goiabeira serrana de seis años, Clon 41 ('Quimba'), evaluando fertilizantes foliares KNO3 (Nitrato de Potasio 13-0-46® 1%, 1,5% y 2%) y KH2PO4 (fosfato de potasio; Cosmofoliar 0-32-43®; 0,5%, 0,75% y 1,0%) y la fitohormona ethephon (Ethrel® 48 SL; 100, 150 y 200 mg L-1). The effects of 0, 30 and 60 mM NaCl and substrates (red peat, sand or 3:1:1 [w/w] mixture of peat, sand, or soil) on vegetative growth of lulo, an Andean fruit species, during 12 weeks were studied. The experiment was carried out by using 2000 cm³ of polypropylene plastic pots under greenhouse conditions. Plant height, number of leaves and nodes, leaf area, total plant dry matter (DM), and shoot/root ratio were evaluated. With the increase of salt concentration, the plant height, the number of leaves and nodes, the leaf areas and plant dry mass DM decreased, whereas shoot/root ratio increased. The aim of this study was to propose a model of pre-harvest fruit quality as a function of weather conditions in the cultivation area. Twenty trees were flagged per farm in 2 localities of the Department of Cundinamarca, Colombia: Tenjo (2,580 m.a.s.l.; 12.5 °C; relative humidity between 74 and 86%; mean annual precipitation 765 mm) and San Francisco de Sales (1,800 m.a.s.l.; 20.6 °C; relative humidity between 63 and 97%; mean annual precipitation 1,493 mm). This study proposes a model for post-harvest fruit quality according to the storage and weather conditions in the pineapple guava growing region. Physiologically ripe fruit were collected during two harvests from two locations within the Department of Cundinamarca (Colombia): Tenjo and San Francisco de Sales. Stevia rebaudiana Bert. es una planta selvática subtropical nativa de Paraguay, que posee un potente edulcorante de hasta 300 veces más dulce que la sacarosa y no tiene calorías. Las moléculas responsables de esta característica son glucósidos de diterpeno, presentes en hojas y sintetizados, al menos en los estados iniciales, usando la misma ruta de síntesis del ácido giberélico, en la que el ácido shiquímico, da origen a muchos compuestos aromáticos.
