Identification of deep subaqueous co-seismic scarps through specific coeval sedimentation in Lesser Antilles: implication for seismic hazard ArchiMer
Beck, C.; Reyss, J-l; Leclerc, F.; Moreno, E.; Feuillet, Nathalie; Barrier, L.; Beauducel, F.; Boudon, G.; Clement, V.; Deplus, Christine; Gallou, N.; Lebrun, J-f; Le Friant, A.; Nercessian, A.; Paterne, M.; Pichot, Thibaud; Vidal, C..
During the GWADASEIS cruise (Lesser Antilles volcanic arc, February-March 2009) a very high resolution (VHR) seismic-reflection survey was performed in order to constrain Late Quaternary to Present faulting. The profiles we obtained evidence frequent "ponding" of reworked sediments in the deepest areas, similar to the deposition of Mediterranean "homogenites". These bodies are acoustically transparent (few ms t.w.t. thick) and are often deposited on the hanging walls of dominantly normal faults, at the base of scarps. Their thickness appears sufficient to compensate (i.e. bury) co-seismic scarps between successive earthquakes, resulting in a flat and horizontal sea floor through time. In a selected area (offshore Montserrat and Nevis islands), piston...

Paleohydrology reconstruction and Holocene climate variability in the South Adriatic Sea ArchiMer
Siani, G.; Magny, M.; Paterne, M.; Debret, M.; Fontugne, M..
Holocene paleohydrology reconstruction is derived combining planktonic and benthic stable oxygen and carbon isotopes, sea surface temperatures (SSTs) and oxygen isotope composition of seawater (delta O-18(w)) from a high sedimentation core collected in the South Adriatic Sea (SAS). Core chronology is based on 10 AMS C-14 measures on planktonic foraminifera and tephra layers. Results reveal two contrasted paleohydrological periods that reflect (i) a marked lowering of delta O-18(w)/salinity during the early to mid-Holocene (11.5 ka to 6.3 ka), including the two-step sapropel S1 deposition, followed during the mid-to upper Holocene by (ii) a prevailing period of increased salinity and enhanced arid conditions in the South Adriatic Basin. Superimposed on...
