Que sait-on aujourd'hui des impacts, positifs et négatifs, de l’agriculture sur la biodiversité ? Quels services la biodiversité peut-elle apporter à l’agriculture, et à quelle hauteur de performance ? Comment favoriser au champ les synergies entre agriculture et biodiversité ? Quels instruments de politiques publics, économiques et juridiques, faut-il mettre en place pour promouvoir ces interactions ? Ces questions ont mobilisé un groupe pluridisciplinaire d’experts (écologues, agronomes, microbiologistes, spécialistes de santé végétale, économistes, juristes, sociologues), de différentes institutions (Inra, CNRS, IRD, Universités, Ecoles supérieures agronomiques) en France et à l’étranger |

Environmental impacts of agriculture cannot be always assessed by using direct measurements. Since the 1990s, numerous agri-environmental indicators were developed to assess the adverse effects of cropping and farming systems in the environment, such as water pollution, soil erosion, and emission of greenhouse gases. Here we present the different types of indicators developed during the last decade and review the progress of the methods used for their development. The effects of agricultural practices on floristic composition of grasslands are well known but few studies investigated these effects on plant spatial patterns involved in the maintenance of plant diversity. In order to identify major processes controlling dispersal patterns of four grassland species, presenting several dispersion modalities (anemochorous, barochorous and zoochorous sensu Grime et al., 1988), we have used spatial analysis (4TLQV and Wavelet)adapted to grids sampling. In Europe, the rapid increase of intensification of farming practices which occurs since 1970’s, is partly responsible of decline of farmland biodiversity. The Rio de Janeiro Declaration on Environment and Development in 1992 confirmed this fact and urged governments to encourage sustainable development, and especially sustainable agriculture. Organic farming is seen as a farming production system to satisfy this sustainability, by for example extensification of farming practices. Afin d’aider les exploitants agricoles à évaluer la durabilité de leur système de production, l’équipe de chercheurs en agriculture durable de l’UMR INPL(ENSAIA)-INRA Nancy-Colmar a élaboré la méthode INDIGO®1 qui permet d’apprécier les différents impacts environnementaux des pratiques agricoles. L’ensemble des indicateurs mis au point est renseigné uniquement par des données faciles à obtenir auprès des agriculteurs lors d’une visite sur leur exploitation.
