Genome-wide analysis of the transcriptional response to drought stress in root and leaf of common bean Genet. Mol. Biol.
Pereira,Wendell Jacinto; Melo,Arthur Tavares de Oliveira; Coelho,Alexandre Siqueira Guedes; Rodrigues,Fabiana Aparecida; Mamidi,Sujan; Alencar,Sérgio Amorim de; Lanna,Anna Cristina; Valdisser,Paula Arielle Mendes Ribeiro; Brondani,Claudio; Nascimento-Júnior,Ivanildo Ramalho do; Borba,Tereza Cristina de Oliveira; Vianello,Rosana Pereira.
Abstract Genes related to the response to drought stress in leaf and root tissue of drought-susceptible (DS) and tolerant (DT) genotypes were characterized by RNA-Seq. In total, 54,750 transcripts, representative of 28,590 genes, were identified; of these, 1,648 were of high-fidelity (merge of 12 libraries) and described for the first time in the Andean germplasm. From the 1,239 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), 458 were identified in DT, with a predominance of genes in categories of oxidative stress, response to stimulus and kinase activity. Most genes related to oxidation-reduction terms in roots were early triggered in DT (T75) compared to DS (T150) suggestive of a mechanism of tolerance by reducing the damage from ROS. Among the KEGG enriched by...

Malnutrition affects the pressor response to microinjection of L-glutamate into the RVLM of awake rats Biol. Res.
Rodrigues,Fabiana Aparecida; Chianca-Jr,Deoclecio Alves; Gonçalves Fernandes,Luciano.
Post-weaning protein malnutrition is often related to the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in humans, as well to changed content of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system under experimental conditions. The rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) is a bulbar region that contains sympathetic premotor neurons; the excitatory amino acid L-glutamate seems to be the main neurotransmitter at this level. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible change in the L-glutamate sensitivity of the RVLM neurons of malnourished animals. Male Fischer rats were divided into two groups: control (n = 15) and malnourished (n = 19). Four days before the experiments, guide cannulas were implanted bilaterally in direction of the RVLM for...

Physiological parameters in sugarcane cultivars submitted to water deficit Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Graça,José Perez da; Rodrigues,Fabiana Aparecida; Farias,José Renato Bouças; Oliveira,Maria Cristina Neves de; Hoffmann-Campo,Clara Beatriz; Zingaretti,Sonia Marli.
To investigate the processes involved in the susceptibility of sugarcane plants to water deficit, several physiological parameters were evaluated in drought tolerant (SP83-2847 and CTC15) and sensitive (SP86-155) cultivars. The water deficit affected the photosynthetic apparatus of all the plants in different ways, within and among cultivars. The photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance decreased significantly in all cultivars submitted to water deficit. In control plants of the tolerant cultivars (SP83-2847 and CTC15) the photosynthetic rate was higher than in the sensitive cultivar (SP86-155). Cultivar CTC15 showed the highest relative water content during the dry period. The quantum efficiency photosystem II of cultivar SP83-2847 was more stable in...

Subtractive libraries for prospecting differentially expressed genes in the soybean under water deficit Genet. Mol. Biol.
Rodrigues,Fabiana Aparecida; Marcolino-Gomes,Juliana; Carvalho,Josirlei de Fátima Corrêa; Nascimento,Leandro Costa do; Neumaier,Norman; Farias,José Renato Bouças; Carazzolle,Marcelo Falsarella; Marcelino,Francismar Corrêa; Nepomuceno,Alexandre Lima.
Soybean has a wide range of applications in the industry and, due to its crop potential, its improvement is widely desirable. During drought conditions, soybean crops suffer significant losses in productivity. Therefore, understanding the responses of the soybean under this stress is an effective way of targeting crop improvement techniques. In this study, we employed the Suppressive Subtractive Hybridization (SSH) technique to investigate differentially expressed genes under water deficit conditions. Embrapa 48 and BR 16 soybean lines, known as drought-tolerant and -sensitive, respectively, were grown hydroponically and subjected to different short-term periods of stress by withholding the nutrient solution. Using this approach, we have identified genes...
