| The bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer (Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France) is an important maritime heritage site of the region. It is well known by lots of tourists, but there are in reality little known facts about it. With hits 4 km² and being a natural harbour for all types of vessels, it has lots of economical and social assets. This work aims to gain knowledge of the bay in order to be able to manage its uses. For this purpose, the study has been divided in two parts. The first one has allowed to identify of different protection measures that are applicable to the bay of Villefranche and that are recognized by the French Law.
