Since the early 1990s, India has undergone substantial economic policy reform and economic growth. Though reforms in agricultural policy have lagged those in other sectors, they have nonetheless created a somewhat more open economic orientation. In this study, we evaluate the protection and support versus disprotection of agriculture in India. Our methodology involves examining market price support (MPS) for eleven crops, the expenditures on input subsidies benefiting farmers (for fertilizer, electricity and irrigation), and product-specific and total producer support estimates (PSEs) over the period 1985-2002. We draw on the extensive price-comparison and subsidy-measurement data sets and analysis developed earlier by Gulati and his co-authors, often... |

Increased productivity is a key to a healthy and thriving economy. Consequently, the trend in productivity, economywide, is one of the most closely watched of our common economic performance indicators. Agriculture, in particular, has been a very successful sector of the U.S. economy in terms of productivity growth. The U.S. farm sector has provided an abundance of output while using inputs efficiently. Agricultural productivity growth has been an important source of U.S. economic growth throughout the century, but the years since 1940 have seen an even faster growth in agricultural productivity. The annual average increase in productivity from 1948 to 1994 was 1.94 percent. This reflects an annual growth in output of 1.88 percent per year and an actual... |

Some regions of the Cerrado Biome present edaphoclimatic conditions restrictive to the maximum productive potential of agriculture and livestock. In these regions, experiments with crop-livestock system (CLS) show that this strategy allows the intensification of agricultural production in a sustainable manner. Rotation, intercropping and succession of crops producing grains or silage with forage species, and conservationist soil management such as no-till and correction of the soil profile favorable to root growth, allow the exploitation of the agricultural area, especially when there is a water deficit. In fifteen years of conducting the CLS, the production of agricultural crops met the demand for food and, also, provided grain yields above regional... |

ABSTRACT The implementation of conservationist systems that improve soil properties and reduce the impacts of the conversion of native areas is fundamental for feasible agricultural exploitation. This study aimed to evaluate the impact on soil biological properties caused by the conversion of murundus fields into agricultural systems and verify the ability of the no-tillage conservation system to recover these properties over the years. Treatments consisted of three agricultural areas subjected to the same management (no-tillage), in a chronosequence (7, 11, and 14 years of conversion) and a reference area (murundus field). To evaluate soil quality, we analyzed total soil organic carbon, microbial biomass carbon, soil basal respiration, metabolic and... |

The Secretaria de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (SAGARPA) and the Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro (UAAAN) have signed agreements, looking a vision more attached to the reality of the conditions, factors and obstacles that affect productive process in Mexico, in order to generate recommendations that increase the efficiency of the involved programs of support with the farming production. Derived of the participation in the Rapid Assessment of Program Acquisition of Productive Assets: Component Protected Agriculture 2008, the characteristics and the context are approached in which the agriculture protected in Mexico is develops. The definition of “protected agriculture” settles down, their characteristics are... |

In this study, authors analyzed value, production and area used for producing Cerrado?s main agricultural products, and data on the farms located within this biome and registered in CAR up until April 2019, by microregion. The territory considered here comprised all microregions with at least 25% of its area covered by the Cerrado biome. The production, agricultural production, and planted area values used were the averages of the 2015 to 2017 harvests, and are shown in graphs and tables, as are maps of planted areas and groups of main annual crops, semi-perennial and perennial crops. The areas designated for environmental preservation (ADPs) are the result of the sum of permanent preservation areas (APP), legal reserves (RL) and additional vegetation... |
