Estudos e cenários indicam que a produção de alimento no mundo deve crescer, considerando o crescimento populacional, principalmente nos países em desenvolvimento e, a urbanização das sociedades, para atender as necessidades humanas. A produção de alimento tem benefícios sociais e econômicos, mas também desafios ambientais para que o desenvolvimento ocorra considerando a sustentabilidade do planeta. Purpose The disposal of solid waste is a serious environmental problem for humanity. Vermicomposting is used as one of the methods for recycling of organic waste, resulting in a humified material of great agronomic potential which promotes carbon sequestration when applied to the soil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical characteristics of vermicomposts from cattle manure (CM), orange peel (OP) and filter cake (FC).

The biogas production from the agricultural wastes is accepted as an eco-friendly solution for keep up with increasing energy demand in the world. The cow manure which is produced in every farm is readily available source for biogas production via anaerobic digestion. The main limitation for biogas production from manure is the inhibition of anaerobic microorganisms resulted from the high ammonia/ammonium content of manure. Extraction of pectin from apple pomace BABT

As apple-processing units are now in expansion in Brazil, industrial by-products like pomace play an important role in pectin manufacture. The objective of this article was to determine a pratical follow-up to the extraction of pectin from apple pomace and to characterize it in a laboratory, on a small scale, aiming at establishing the optimum conditions for acid extraction. The highest yields were obtained when [1]apple pomace was dried and ground to obtain an apple flour to be used as raw material, [2] citric or nitric acids were used and [3] when the citric acid concentration was 6.2 g/100 ml and the time of reaction was 153 minutes. ABSTRACT: Production of biochar from organic wastes promises to be an interesting source of plant nutrients, thus reducing pressure on natural resources. To assess the effect of biochar prepared from wastes filtration materials on the growth and production of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), three simultaneous greenhouse experiments were conducted with three different biochar from organic wastes (rice husk, sawdust, and sorghum silage) using as filtration material for swine biofertilizer. Hydrolysis of various thai agricultural biomasses using the crude enzyme from Aspergillus aculeatus iizuka FR60 isolated from soil BJM

In this study, forty-two fungi from soil were isolated and tested for their carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) and xylanase activities. From all isolates, the fungal isolate FR60, which was identified as Aspergillus aculeatus Iizuka, showed high activities in both CMCase and xylanase with 517 mU/mg protein and 550 mU/mg protein, respectively. The crude enzyme from A. aculeatus Iizuka FR60 could hydrolyze several agricultural residues such as corncob, and sweet sorghum leaf and stalk at comparable rates with respect to the tested commercial enzymes and with a maximum rate in rice hull hydrolysis (29 μg sugar g-1 dry weight substrate mg-1 enzyme hr-1). Açaí is a source of wealth for riverine families and has been promoting the development of the Amazon River estuary. After depulping the fruits to produce the wine, the seeds of açaí are deposited near the houses without proper destination. This problem can become a solution, generating green energy in isolated communities. The aim of this study is estimate the energetic potential of açaí seeds. This work was done in Ilha das Cinzas, Gurupá-PA, Eastern Amazon. The samples were collected with 10 families (n = 40), packed and sent to a forced ventilation oven 105 ± 2ºC. Ações que visem aumentar o estoque de carbono no solo são mais efetivas e factíveis que alterações no conteúdo de biomassa. Assim sendo, de maneira geral, um aumento do conteúdo de carbono no solo aumenta sua fertilidade e, com isso, o conteúdo de biomassa vegetal que esse solo é capaz de suportar.

Agricultural waste materials are generated in large quantities in Brazil. These can accumulate and cause serious environmental problems. One of the most commonly generated wastes in the brazilian agricultural culture is the maize cob. Being lignocellulosic in nature, the maize cob can find use as the raw material in the production of particleboards mainly concerned with furniture making. Therefore, studies regarding its thermal stability and fire resistance would be interesting.
