Abstract: The development and implementation of strategies to assist safe and effective transport and storage of pellets in containers and indoor facilities without heating systems are challenging. This study primarily aimed to reshape the organic fraction of municipal solid waste into a liquid-state binder in order to develop freezing?defrosting-proof non-wood pellets. The introduction of the standard solution of food waste into the process of pelleting consisted of stirring it together with the residual biomass from distillation of cellulosic bioethanol or alternatively spraying very fine droplets on the layer of the starting material before it entered the pilot-scale automatic machine at 200 MPa and 125 °C. The addition by spraying of carbohydrate-rich... |

Abstract: Gastrointestinal parasitism is one of the factors that discourages farmers from raising small ruminants in cultivated pastures. To validate a soil treatment strategy to control the free-living stages of gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN), castor cake (CC) was used as a fertilizer on a pasture where sheep grazed on guinea grass under continuous stocking. On day zero, the pasture was divided into three paddocks, contaminated by GIN and treated, respectively, with CC divided into two applications (2CC1/2), CC in a single application (CC1) and organic compost in a single application (control). On day 21, eight GIN-free sheep were placed in each paddock. On day 58, significant differences (P<0.05) were observed: reduction of up to 66.10% in... |

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of granulated formulations, made using calcined bone meal as a phosphorus source, on cowpea, soybean, and corn in the Amapá State, Eastern Brazilian Amazon. In the greenhouse, the treatments consisted of two soils with different clay contents (231 and 376 g kg -1), three granulated NPK formulations (08-20-10,02-20-10, and 01-20-00 prepared with bovine bone meal, monoammonium phosphate, ammonium sulfate, urea, and potassium chloride and phosphorite), and three crop successions (cowpea/corn/soybean, soybean/cowpea/corn, and corn/soybean/cowpea). In the field, treatments consisted of four levels of NPK 08-20-10 for corn and NPK 02-20-10 for soybean, in a Cerrado, and NPK 02-20-10 for cowpea, in both... |

The biogas production from the agricultural wastes is accepted as an eco-friendly solution for keep up with increasing energy demand in the world. The cow manure which is produced in every farm is readily available source for biogas production via anaerobic digestion. The main limitation for biogas production from manure is the inhibition of anaerobic microorganisms resulted from the high ammonia/ammonium content of manure. The co-digestion of manure with agricultural wastes is frequently applied to cope with this limitation. This study aims to investigate the biogas production from the co-digestion of cow manure and greenhouse residues in different mixing ratios as input materials. Tomato and pepper wastes from greenhouses were selected as co-substrates... |

ABSTRACT: Production of biochar from organic wastes promises to be an interesting source of plant nutrients, thus reducing pressure on natural resources. To assess the effect of biochar prepared from wastes filtration materials on the growth and production of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), three simultaneous greenhouse experiments were conducted with three different biochar from organic wastes (rice husk, sawdust, and sorghum silage) using as filtration material for swine biofertilizer. In each experiment the treatments consisted of the addition of five different biochar concentrations (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% v/v), arranged in a completely random design, with four repetitions. Application of biochar increased the root dry mass, shoot dry mass,... |

Açaí is a source of wealth for riverine families and has been promoting the development of the Amazon River estuary. After depulping the fruits to produce the wine, the seeds of açaí are deposited near the houses without proper destination. This problem can become a solution, generating green energy in isolated communities. The aim of this study is estimate the energetic potential of açaí seeds. This work was done in Ilha das Cinzas, Gurupá-PA, Eastern Amazon. The samples were collected with 10 families (n = 40), packed and sent to a forced ventilation oven 105 ± 2ºC. It was done an immediate analysis, in duplicate, in accordance with ASTM D1762-84. The highest heating value (HHV) was determined with volatile material values, fixed carbon and ash content.... |

Abstract: Pellets refer to solid biofuels for heating and power. The pellet's integrity is of great relevant to ensure safe and effective transportation and storage, and comfort to stakeholders. Several materials that are supportive, whether organic and inorganic, to pellets exist. However, no work in the literature is linking making hybrid non-wood pellets with addition of residual biomass from distillation of cellulosic bioethanol, and this requires further investigations. Figuring out how effective this challenging agro-industrial residue could be for reinforcing non-wood pellets is accordingly the scientific point of this study focusing on management of waste and valorization of biomass. The pilot-scale manufacturing of hybrid pellets consisted of... |
