Aromatic rices (Oryza sativa L.) normally produce enormous spikelets of low grain weight resulting low yield. Grain weight and grain density are the vital indicators of grain filling and mainly dependent on genetic make-up. Detail study of grain density and yield components of aromatic rice is a crucial need for yield improvement. An experiment was conducted with 40 rice genotypes to assess the grain density of aromatic rices and to observe the relationships of different grain categories with yield characters. Promising line IR77954-28-36-3 was first developed at the International Rice Research Institute in 1998. Selection and backcrossing were conducted at Ubon Ratchathani Rice Research Center during 1999-2004. Evaluation for yield potential and environmental adaptation was carried out in the upper northern region during 2005-2012. Aromatic rice is a specific group of rice having high price in the world rice market. Fragrant trait is therefore included in the principal goal for rice production and improvement. A recessive gene on chromosome 8 has been elucidated to be homology with the gene encoded for betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase (BADH2). In fragrant rice this gene was mutated by 8 bp deletion in exon 7 resulting in accumulation of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP). In this study, BADEX7-5 primer which is specific for fragrant gene (badh2) was tested by conventional PCR and Real-time PCR. The survey was conducted in 2013 in order to collect the information on production management of Kao Dawk Mali rice from various sources, i.e. seed sources, farmers' fields, local mills in the area of north eastern and upper northern Thailand, and also from the exporters. The samples of Kao Dawk Mali rice were taken for evaluating their grain physical and chemical properties. The content of 2-Acetyl-1-Pyroline (2AP) of those samples were measured in order to evaluate for their aromatic levels. CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive and aromatic rice line derived from a cross between PSBRc54 and IR22. The single cross hybridization was made in 2006 at Bang Khen Rice Experiment Station (now Chachoengsao Rice Research. F2 to F5 progenies were selected at Klong Luang Rice Reseach Center during 2007-2008. The line CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 has an erect and moderately strong culm; 110 cm height on transplanting and 105 cm height on germinated seed broadcasting; 117 days maturity on transplanting and 106 days maturity on germinated seed broadcasting. The major rainfed rice growing area in the Lower North region of Thailand has good soil fertility. It has high potential to produce good rice varieties including aromatic rice. However, at present, Nahng Mon S-4 is the only aromatic, intermediate amylose content rice variety being officially released. Therefore, a selection for an aromatic, intermediate amylose content, high yield and resistant to major disease and insect pest is needed to provide the alternative for farmers. [[abstract]]臺稉育62069號是以日本良質米品種絹光為母本,臺稉四號為父本,於公元1992年進行雜交選育工作,歷經分離世代單株、系統選拔,新品系觀察、初級、高級及區域試驗等產量比較試驗,並於各世代接受各項特性檢定、米質外觀篩選、食味口感測定,為時近九年,於公元2000年完成命名登記,商品名稱為益全香米。其稻穀產量穩定,區域試驗平均產量第一期作5,319公斤/公頃,最高7,014公斤/公頃(高屏地區),第二期作4,199公斤/公頃,最高5,189公斤/公頃(臺東地區)。其株高約100公分,株型佳,具有優異之耐寒性,抗倒伏性差及種子休眠性弱,成熟期間遇梅雨季節時易穗上發芽,栽培上可運用其耐寒性及生育期較短等特性調整生育期,降低穗上發芽發生之風險。對東部葉稻熱病、紋枯病、斑飛蝨及二化螟蟲等有中抗(耐)且較持久性之反應,但對褐飛蝨無抗(耐)性表現,栽培時須注意警訊,適時、適藥、適量予以防治。稻穀千粒重平均達25.3克、白米外觀短圓飽滿、晶瑩剔透,米飯黏彈性佳,米飯食用品質與產自埤頭良質米推廣品種臺稉9號相同;米粒具有的芋頭香味,烹煮時滿室生香,極具品質特色,可建立多元化米飯食味的新紀元及創立臺灣本土稻米品牌的口碑。
