Identificação de predadores de Orphulella punctata (de Geer) (Orthoptera, Acrididae) através da serologia Zoologia

Females of Orphulella punctata (de Geer, 1794) were captured in the field and kept in cages with food and boxes filled with moist soil for oviposition. The eggs, macerated with 0,85% saline solution and centrifugated, were used as the immunizing antigen for obtention of the specific antiserum (AS-O). Rabbits were immunized by the linphonodule injection method with two injections of this antigen, with an interval of 15 days between the 1st and 2nd inoculations. Serological tests were performed using double diffusion in agar gel with homologous and heterologous antigens. Specific serological reactions were obtained 14 days after the 1st inoculation. Physiological effect of the host plant on the suitability of Tetranychus urticae as prey for Phytoseiulus persimilis (Acari: Tetranychidade, Phytoseiidae). Repositório Alice

Weigth gain of adult females Phytoseiulus Athias-Henriot was determined after they were fed eggs or adults females of Tetranychus urticae Koch reared on either Lima bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) or nightshade (Solanum douglasii Dunal). No significant difference was found when the predator was fed eggs of T. urticae reared on either host. Predators were heavier when fed adult female T. urticae reared on bean. Apparently, a factor determining the prey's suitability is incorporated into its hemolymph or tissues and restricted to its gut content.

Abstract: The present study demonstrates 30 plant bugs species associated with 50 records of prey and six records of mycophagy for Brazil. The data were compiled from Schuh’s Catalog, the literature, specimens deposited in entomology museums and exemplars from different regions of Brazil sent for identification. Some of the data from the literature used did not presented complete information. This study aims to increase the knowledge of the relationships among plant bugs, prey and fungi and emphasize those species with potential for biological control strategies and pest integrated management.

Soil solarization for the control of tomato and eggplant Verticillium wilt and its effect on weed and micro-arthropod communities. Repositório Alice

Soil solarization for 30 and 50 days significantly reduced the incidence of Verticillium dahliae wilt in tomatoes, and had a residual effect on the level of the disease in eggplants transplanted to the same field 45 days after tomato plants had been eliminated. The reduction in the level of the disease did not, however, correspond to an increase in yield in both crops. Weed community was also considerably affected by solarization. The relative importance of dicotiledoneous plants was higher in the control plots and plots treated with methyl bromide; whereas in solaried plots the importances of grasses and dicotiledoneous plants were similar. Study on diversity of arthropods in sweet corn was carried out at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center to determine the diversity and abundance of arthropods in dry season during January-March 2009 and March-May 2009. 210 sample plants were observed by using stratified random sampling technique and data was recorded by visual count method. The species/families/groups and number of arthropods were recorded 4 times at vegetative stage and 3 times at reproductive stage on both crops. Diversity of arthropods was analyzed by Shannon-Wiener diversity index.
