A revised calendar age for the last reconnection of the Black Sea to the global ocean ArchiMer
Soulet, Guillaume; Menot, G.; Lericolais, Gilles; Bard, E..
During the last decade, a debate arose regarding the timing and pattern of the last reconnection of the Black Sea "Lake" with the global ocean. On a geochemical basis, the radiocarbon age of Black Sea "Lake" surface water, during the time of reconnection, was determined to be similar to 8400 C-14 a. BP. Despite the potential bias induced by the hard water effect in lakes, the reconnection age was calibrated without any reservoir age correction, which led to an estimate of similar to 9400 cal a. BR Since knowledge for the actual calendar age has important hydrologic implications that would provide new insights regarding the mechanism of reconnection, determining the actual calendar age for the last reconnection remains important. Based upon modeling...

Linking Danube River Activity to Alpine Ice-Sheet Fluctuations during the Last Glacial (ca. 33-17 ka BP): insights into the continental signature of Heinrich Stadials ArchiMer
Martinez-lamas, Ruth; Toucanne, Samuel; Debret, Maxime; Riboulot, Vincent; Deloffre, Julien; Boissier, Audrey; Cheron, Sandrine; Pitel, Mathilde; Bayon, Germain; Giosan, Liviu; Soulet, Guillaume.
Offshore archives retrieved from marine/lacustrine environments receiving sediment from large river systems are valuable Quaternary continental records. In the present study, we reconstruct the Danube River activity at the end of the last glacial period based on sedimentological, mineralogical and geochemical analyses performed on long-piston cores from the north-west Black Sea margin. Our data suggest that the Danube River produced hyperpycnal floods throughout the ca. 33-17 ka period. Four main periods of enhanced Danube flood frequency, each of 1.5-3 kyr duration, are recorded at ca. 32.5 30.5 ka (equivalent to the first part of Heinrich Stadial HS 3), at ca. 29-27.5 ka (equivalent to Greenland Stadial 4), at ca. 25.3-23.8 ka (equivalent to HS 2) and at...

Structure and Drivers of Cold Seep Ecosystems ArchiMer
Foucher, Jean-paul; Westbrook, Graham K.; Boetius, Antje; Ceramicola, Silvia; Dupre, Stephanie; Mascle, Jean; Mienert, Jurgen; Pfannkuche, Olaf; Pierre, Catherine; Praeg, Daniel.
Submarine hydrocarbon seeps are geologically driven "hotspots" of increased biological activity on the seabed. As part of the HERMES project, several sites of natural hydrocarbon seepage in the European seas were investigated in detail, including mud volcanoes and pockmarks, in study areas extending from the Nordic margin, to the Gulf of Cadiz, to the Mediterranean and Black seas. High-resolution seabed maps and the main properties of key seep sites are presented here. Individual seeps show ecosystem zonation related to the strength of the methane flux and distinct biogeochemical processes in surface sediments. A feature common to many seeps is the formation of authigenic carbonate constructions. These constructions exhibit various morphologies ranging...

The Ponto-Caspian basin as a final trap for southeastern Scandinavian Ice-Sheet meltwater ArchiMer
Tudryn, Alina; Leroy, Suzanne A. G.; Toucanne, Samuel; Gibert-brunet, Elisabeth; Tucholka, Piotr; Lavrushin, Yuri A.; Dufaure, Olivier; Miska, Serge; Bayon, Germain.
This paper provides new data on the evolution of the Caspian Sea and Black Sea from the Last Glacial Maximum until ca. 12 cal kyr BP. We present new analyses (clay mineralogy, grain-size, Nd isotopes and pollen) applied to sediments from the river terraces in the lower Volga, from the middle Caspian Sea and from the western part of the Black Sea. The results show that during the last deglaciation, the Ponto-Caspian basin collected meltwater and fine-grained sediment from the southern margin of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet (SIS) via the Dniepr and Volga Rivers. It induced the deposition of characteristic red-brownish/chocolate-coloured illite-rich sediments (Red Layers in the Black Sea and Chocolate Clays in the Caspian Sea) that originated from the Baltic...

Биоразнообразие и биоресурсный потенциал черноморской экосистемы: современное состояние и прогноз IBSS Repository
Токарев, Ю. Н.; Еремеев, В. Н.; Шульман, Г. Е..
It is set that the evolution of biodiversity of black sea ecosystem and its bioresource potential is determined by the row of natural and anthropogenic factors of different nature. The maintainance of biodiversity of ecosystem and rational use of its bioresource potential is related to realization of complex of intergovernmental and public measures, directed on a reconstruction, stabilizing and guard of this unique marine pool, concerted system of monitoring of pelagial and ground regional associations.

Вирусы в Крымском регионе Чёрного моря (результаты 1994-2010 гг.) IBSS Repository
Степанова, О. А..
It was discovered, that Black Sea environment and hydrobionts were contaminated by viruses brought from a land. The capability of viruses from a land to adapt to the hydrobionts was established (in vitro). The number of bacteria and viruses of microplankton and microbenthos was determined. New viruses to 4 algae species (more 100 viral strains) were isolated and studied.

О видовой принадлежности Polydora (Polychaeta: Spionidae) из Балаклавской бухты (Черное море). IBSS Repository
Болтачёва, Н. А.; Лисицкая, Е. В..
