El Niño 2006-2007. Desarrollo y manifestaciones en aguas ecuatorianas OceanDocs
Zambrano, E..

Guam Fish Aggregating Device programme ArchiMer
Torres, A.
Installation and maintenance of FADs by the Government of Guam began in 1979, initially with funding from the Salstonstall-Kennedy Act through the Pacific Tuna Development Foundation. Current funding for the Guam FAD project is provided through the Dingell-Johnson/Wallop-Breaux Sport Fish Restoration programme, a Federal Aid Project funded by taxes collected on the purchase of fishing equipment and motorboat fuels nationwide. There are now sixteen operational FAD sites in Guam's waters. At a cost of approximately US$10,000 per system, concern for the rising costs of replacing and maintaining FAD systems has prompted the Department of Agriculture's Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources (DAWR) to investigate alternative FAD maintenance strategies and...

PIRATA South East Extension Feasibility Study. OceanDocs
Rouault, M..
PIRATA (Brazil, France, USA) has deployed between 1997 and 2001, an array of 12 ATLAS buoys with the objective of monitoring, describing and understanding the evolution of sea surface temperature, upper ocean thermal and saline structure, net heat budget, air-sea fluxes of momentum, latent and sensible heat and fresh water in the tropical Atlantic. The oceanic and meteorological observations are transmitted to shore via satellite and are available in near real-time on the Internet. They are communicated to the Global Telecommunication System and readily available for ocean and weather prediction models. The ultimate objective of PIRATA is real-time ocean monitoring to enable resource prediction in the adjacent countries.

Validation of Arctic sea ice drift with IABP buoys ArchiMer
Ardhuin, Fanny; Ezraty, Robert.
Satellites enable daily and global coverage of the polar oceans, providing an unique monitoring capability of sea ice dynamics over Arctic and Antarctic. Available geophysical parameters include ice concentration, extent, type and sea ice drift. Backscatter map from SeaWinds/QuikSCAT and brightness temperature maps from Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I) are available at a pixel resolution of 12,5 km from which ice drift can be estimated for each sensor. Since 1999, IFREMER makes available a "Merged" sea ice drift data set based on the combination of these drifts at 3 and 6-day lags at the grid resolution of 62,5 km. It has been demonstrated that combining these drifts increases the number of valid vectors. In this paper, the validation of this...
