Acceleration of reflex maturation and physical development in suckling rats: effects of a maternal diet containing lipids from goat milk. Repositório Alice
SOARES, J. K. B.; QUEIROGA, R. de C. R. do E.; BOMFIM, M. A. D.; PESSOA, D. C. N. de P.; BARBOSA, E. de A.; SOUZA, D. L.; CABRAL-FILHO, J. E.; MEDEIROS, M. do C..
Objective: To investigate the effects of lipids from goat milk containing conjugated linoleic acids on body weight and reflex ontogeny of neonatal rats treated during the prenatal and suckling periods. Methods: Three groups were studied: soybean oil (S), coconut oil (C), and goat milk lipids (GM). Reflex maturation (palm grasp, righting reflex, cliff avoidance, vibrissae placing, negative geotaxis, auditory startle, and free-fall righting) as well as body weight evolution were recorded during lactation. Results: Data demonstrated that the lipids from goat milk accelerated body weight evolution as well as all the reflex maturation investigated (P < 0.05). Discussion: The supply of goat?s milk offered to Wistar rats during pregnancy and lactation provided...

Adsorption of glyphosate in Chilean soils and its relationship with unoccupied phosphate binding sites. Repositório Alice
KOGAN, M.; METZ, A.; ORTEGA, R..
The objective of this work was to investigate glyphosate adsorption by soils and its relationship with unoccupied binding sites for phosphate adsorption. Soil samples of three Chilean soils series - Valdivia (Andisol), Clarillo (Inceptisol) and Chicureo (Vertisol) - were incubated with different herbicide concentrations. Glyphosate remaining in solution was determined by adjusting a HPLC method with a UV detector. Experimental maximum adsorption capacity were 15,000, 14,300 and 4,700 mg g-1 for Valdivia, Clarillo, and Chicureo soils, respectively. Linear, Freundlich, and Langmuir models were used to describe glyphosate adsorption. Isotherms describing glyphosate adsorption differed among soils. Maximum adjusted adsorption capacity with the Langmuir model...

Effect of the FSH dose on superovulatory response in Santa Inês ewes. Repositório Alice
MACIEL, G.; RODRIGUEZ, M.; MARONEZ, M.; CAMPOS, G.; SILVA, P.; TREVIZAN, J.; USCATEGUI, R.; FONSECA, J. F. da; FELICIANO, M.; VICENTE, V.; OLIVEIRA, M. E..
This study aimed to evaluate the superovulatory response under effect of different FSH doses in superovulatory protocols. Santa Inês ewes (n = 24) received an intravaginal progesterone device (CIDR®) on Day 0, which remains until the Day 8. On Day 0 and 8 were also administered 0.125 mg of a synthetic analogue of PGF2? (Sincrocio®). In conclusion, best results in superovulation treatment in ewes were obtained using FSH dose of 100 mg. Higher doses of FSH (133 mg and 200 mg) are not indicated.

Molecular development of oxfendazole resistance starting with a susceptible Haemonchus contortus isolate. Repositório Alice
MONTEIRO, J. P.; SANTOS, J. M. L. dos; VASCONCELOS, J. F.; FROTA, G. A.; ANDRÉ, W. P. P.; RIBEIRO, W. L. C.; MELO, A. C. F. L.; TEIXEIRA, M.; VIEIRA, L. da S.; BEVILAQUA, C. M. L..
Abstract: Haemonchus contortus is one of the main small ruminant parasites in tropical areas and its control is traditionally done through the utilization of synthetic anthelmintics such as benzimidazoles (BZ). BZ resistance is associated to single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) located in the Beta-tubulin isotype 1 gene: F200Y, F167Y and E198A. Here we describe the rise of resistant mutations within a completely susceptible isolate (Inbred-susceptible-Edinburgh - ISE) in an experimental infection model in 3 sheep treated with increasing oxfendazole doses. After initial infection and rise in fecal egg counts, the drug regimen started with subdoses as low as 30% of the recommended dosage and were gradually increased to 100% over the course of a year....

Ovarian responses in Santa Ines ewes superovulated with different doses of porcine FSH (FOLLTROPIN-V). Repositório Alice
RODRIGUEZ, M.; MACIEL, G.; NOCITI, R.; BARROS, F.; MARIANO, R.; SIMÕES, A. P.; MARONEZI, M.; SILVA, P.; WENDLER, R.; TEIXEIRA, P. P.; FONSECA, J. F. da; VICENTE, W.; OLIVEIRA, M. E..
High variability in superovulatory responses and the occurrence of premature luteal regression in donor animals are the major drawbacks of mutiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) programs in sheep. These conditions may be caused in part by the high doses of exogenous FSH used in superovulatory protocols [1]. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of various superovulatory porcine FSH (pFSH, Folltropin®-V) doses on the ovarian responses in ewes.
