An analysis of data from a Tunisian farm during the months of June to November of the year 2008 is presented. These data were broken down into two sets the first concern sampled fish while towing them to farm (wild set), the second set concern sampled specimen at the end of fattening process (fattening set). The wild group comprised specimens ranging from 90 to 276 cm fork length, and the fattened group included specimens from 105 to 310 сm. Juvenile proportion (Lf<130 сm) in fattened specimen (15.7%) was considerably smaller compared to the proportion in wild specimens (61,8%). The distribution of individual weights of slaughtered BFT shows the prevalence 31-50 kg specimen class (60.4%). The L-W relationships were determined for each of these sets.... |

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impacts of metazoan parasites on hematological and biochemical parameters and relative condition factor of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) farmed in northern Brazil. A total of 32 juvenile fish were captured from a commercial fish farm located in the municipality of Rio Preto da Eva, Amazonas state, Brazil. Parasite prevalence was 100% for Anacanthorus spathulatus, Mymarothecium boegeri and Notozothecium janauachensis, 100% for Neoechinorhynchus buttnerae and 53.13% for Dolops geayi. The greatest mean parasite intensity was found in acantocephalans followed by monogeneans and branchiuran crustaceans. A negative correlation was observed between abundance of N. buttnerae and hematocrit percentage, hemoglobin... |

in many parts of the world, aquaculture production in the Mediterranean has been expanding rapidly over recent years. Total aquaculture production in the region reached 1,266,959 t in 1999, which represents approximately 6% of the world aquaculture production (3% in 1995). Although Mediterranean aquaculture still focuses more on mollusc production (53.9%), the share of fish production is progressing constantly (46% in 1999, and 35% in 1995), parallel to global trends of world aquaculture. The Mediterranean coast displays a wide range of geographical characteristics and supports many functions, such as tourism, residential development, and conservation, which may compete with aquaculture for resources. Many coastal areas are also physically exposed,... |

In this study we investigated the relationship between tambaqui fish (Colossoma macropomumi Cuvier 1818) and parasites in two fish farms (L204S and L180N) in the state of Rondônia, Brazil, during a 1-year period. The objective of the study was to describe the relationships between parasites, hosts and the environment. From the 80 fish specimens collected, 100% were parasitized by at least one parasite species. Seven ectoparasites species were recorded, six of the class Monogenea: Anacanthorus spathulatusi, Mymarothecium spp. (Mymarothecium sp. 1, Mymarothecium sp. 2 and M. viatorum), Notozothecium sp. and Linguadactyloides brinkimanni, classified as dominants, and the copepod Perulernaea gamitanae, classified as subordinate. Despite their high prevalence,... |

Abstract: Earthworm meal comprises a class of food additives with potential to replace or supplement conventional proteins used in fish feed. Considering the potential of earthworm meal, as a protein source for fish feed, this study aimed to investigate the productive performance and the hematological profile of Nile tilapia juveniles fed with a commercial diet enriched with earthworm meal at levels (0.0; 5.0, 10 and 20%). The assay was conducted for 32 days and the productive performance and hematology profile of the animals were evaluated. Tilapia juveniles (n=144; 25.30±3.27g) were distributed in 12 aquariums (300 L) in a static system with partial water changes. The experimental design was completely randomized with four treatments and three... |
