The utilization of available data and information for management and exploitation of the marine environment and resources is one of the major challenges facing African coastal states. The success of development strategies will depend to a great extent on the availability and use of scientific and technical information in a form that can be readily understood and applied. Though several programmes initiated at the national, regional and global level have generated tremendous amounts of data and information, these have not been effectively used for national development. This has mainly been due to limited access to data collected in the framework of these programmes, and the lack of skills for analysis and interpretation of the data. There is a need to... |

Various automation agents can be embedded in a modern Decision Support System in agriculture, based on the following design approaches: E-Learning Agent, Monitoring Agent, Fault Diagnosis Agent, Weather Information Agent, E-Commerce Agent and Logistics Agent. The proposed Agents contribute to farmers' education, to timely correct fault diagnosis and the incorporation of modern agricultural techniques. Moreover, they allow processing historical data, while taking into account several factors in order to support decision making. The preliminary Automation Agents for Decision Support Systems (AADSS) model idea may be applied to various agribusiness activities on international level. Moreover, an operator agent is proposed, that exploits technological and... |

This report examines current trends in the U.S. grain industry. Many identity preservation(IP) grain systems have emerged recently, driven by a confluence of supply and demand factors. IP grain requirements for specific production protocols, marketing channels, and quality assurance depend on whether the crops are trait-specific, non-GM (genetically modified), organic, or pharmaceutical. Cost structures vary according to the relative importance of segregation and risk management. High information management, greater market coordination, and frequent reliance on contracts characterize IP grains. IP grain markets are also inherently riskier, with volatile supply, inelastic demand, and fluctuating price premiums. Increasing grain differentiation is altering... |

In this manual a Standard Library Directory Record Structure is proposed, for use in the preparation of databases of libraries and information centres. The structure is designed to be, as far as is possible, independent of the software used. Provision is made for additional fields for local needs. The structure incorporates the section of the Standard Directory Record Structure for organizations, individuals and their research interests which deals with organizations. (MIM Publication Series Volume 4). |
