We provide a systematic review of the adaptive comanagement (ACM) literature to (i) investigate how the concept of governance is considered and (ii) examine what insights ACM offers with reference to six key concerns in environmental governance literature: accountability and legitimacy; actors and roles; fit, interplay, and scale; adaptiveness, flexibility, and learning; evaluation and monitoring; and, knowledge. Findings from the systematic review uncover a complicated relationship with evidence of conceptual closeness as well as relational ambiguities. The findings also reveal several specific contributions from the ACM literature to each of the six key environmental governance concerns, including applied strategies for sharing power and responsibility... |

ABSTRACT: The destruction of cotton stalks after harvesting is a prophylactic measure aimed at reducing the population of insects and disease inoculants that may remain in the crop residues and remaining cotton plants. The objective of this work was to evaluate integrated methods of management of the cotton stalks, combining mechanical and chemical control, to promote the eradication of cotton stalks. A 7x5 factorial experiment was installed where seven different methods of mechanical control of cotton stalk and five herbicide treatments were tested. The percentage of control (visual scale of 0 to 100%) and the number of plants regrowth per meter were evaluated at 14, 28 and 50 days after herbicide application treatment. At the end of the experiment, the... |

In order to assess local experiences of coastal management in France and their use of existing planning instruments, five case studies (Iroise Sea, Bay of Brest, Charentais Sounds, Morbihan Gulf, Bay of Arcachon) were selected along the French Atlantic coast for their geographic representativity, the issues at stake, and the coastal planning instruments under use. After a short description of their main characteristics, it is shown how a common grid of analysis has been settled and applied to the five case studies, with a focus on the definition and valuation of meaningful integrated coastal management (ICM) process indicators. The results lead to a clear identification of the strengths and weaknesses of available planning tools and their necessary... |

Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff) Sorokin is an entomopathogenic fungus used for controlling different insect pests. It is most frequently applied to berry fruit crops, where fungicides are also used for disease control. Fungicides: azoxystrobin, benomyl, captan, chlorothalonil, fenhexamid, fludioxonil, iprodione, and metalaxyl in concentrations of 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, 10, and 100 mg L-1 were evaluated in this research study. Vegetative growth, conidia germination, and conidia germination tube length were measured on the Qu-M82, Qu-M151b, Qu-M253, Qu-M430, and Qu-M984 Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae fungus strains. Those strains were selected because of their present use against different insect pest in bramble fruits. Vegetative growth was measured... |

Anastrepha striata Schiner is one of the most common species of fruit flies in all its distribution area. It is well reported in literature infesting fruits of several vegetal species, both native and introduced ones. From the economical point of view, it is very important in the tropical and subtropical Americas for attacking species of Myrtaceae family, especially guava. It is considered a pest of great importance by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and by other regulatory agencies (NORRBOM, 2003). It occurs since Mexico, Central America, southern Peru, southern Bolivia, Venezuela, Equator and Brazil, being considered the main guava pest in most of these countries. Some samples were collected in the USA (southern Texas and California),... |

ABSTRACT Root-knot nematodes limit lettuce crop productivity. Efficient control is achieved through integrated management, and research about the efficiency of new products for nutrition and biological control is required. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of fertilizers, applied alone or in combination with microorganisms based product on the control of Meloidogyne javanica in lettuce. In the first research (research 1), conducted at two different periods, the products Agro-Mos®, Soil-SetTM and Copper-Crop® applied on shoots were evaluated; in research 2, the same products were applied isolated on shoots or associated to NemOutTM (Bacillus licheniformis, B. subtilis and Trichoderma longibrachiatum) applied to the soil. In... |

Bycatch in fisheries can have profound effects on the abundance of species with relatively low resilience to increased mortality, can alter the evolutionary characteristics and concomitant fitness of affected populations through heritable trait-based selective removals, and can alter ecosystem functions, structure and services through food web trophic links. We challenge current piecemeal bycatch management paradigms, which reduce the mortality of one taxon of conservation concern at the unintended expense of others. Bycatch mitigation measures may also reduce intraspecific genetic diversity. We drew examples of broadly prescribed ‘best practice’ methods to mitigate bycatch that result in unintended cross-taxa conflicts from pelagic longline, tuna purse... |
