ABSTRACT Atrazine is a herbicide widely used in agriculture; however, because of its toxicity, alternatives are needed to remove this compound from the environment. In this study, we investigated the adsorption process and the atrazine-adsorbing ability of three biochars produced at different pyrolysis temperatures from byproducts of the wood industry. The biochars were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and their physical characteristics were evaluated by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. The biochar pyrolyzed at 350 °C (BM350) adsorbed 26.04% of the herbicide, showing the best performance among the three biochars tested, even though it had the lowest specific surface area (1.467 m2... |

The objective of this study was to perform an analysis of the characterization of buriti fruit (Mauritia flexuosa). Each part of the fruit (peel, pulp, and fibrous part) was analyzed and their hygroscopic behavior was evaluated to establish the drying and storage conditions. Adsorption and desorption isotherms were obtained at 25 °C to the monolayer value was estimated, and the application of the Halsey, Handerson, Kuhn, Mizrahi, Oswin, Smith, BET, and GAB models was evaluated to the prediction of the isotherms. The fruit pulp was classified as rich in high quality oil, and like the peel and the fibrous part, it was also considered as rich in dietary fiber. The isotherms of the fruit parts were classified as type II, and their microbiological stability (a... |

ABSTRACT Guava is a fruit that stands out for its aroma, intense flavor, vitamins, and minerals. Its availability as a powdered food enhances its commercial applications. This study aimed to evaluate mathematical models for adsorption isotherms and determine the properties and flowability of guava pulp powder obtained by foam-mat drying. The models of GAB, BET, Henderson and Oswin were fitted to determine the isotherms of powders with 4 and 8% albumin, at temperatures of 35°C and 45°C. The powders were evaluated by wall friction angle, flow index, apparent density, and particle microstructure analysis. The best fit to the isotherms was obtained by the GAB model. Wall friction angle ranged from 15.7 to 21.9° and from 13.6 to 20.4° for samples containing 4... |
