O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar as curvas de umidade de equilibrio higroscopico e o calor latente de vaporizacao para as sementes de milho pipoca (Zea mays). O teor de umidade inicial das sementes era 23% b.u. As sementes foram submetidas e dessorcao, sob diversas condicoes de temperatura (20, 30, 40 e 50oC) e umidade relativa do ar (30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 e 90%) com tres repeticoes, ate atingirem a umidade de equilibrio. A temperatura e a umidade relativa do ar foram controladas por meio de uma unidade condicionadora de ar "Aminco-Air". Os seguintes modelos matematicos foram ajustados aos dados experimentais. Heat and moisture production in growing-finishing pigs and broilers CIGR Journal

Heat and moisture production are important parameters for designing ventilation and climate control systems in livestock housing. In 2002 a report was published of the CIGR Section II Working Group on Climatization of Animal Houses ‘Heat and moisture production at animal and house levels’ with formula to calculate heat and moisture production for different livestock categories. The objective of this paper is to discuss these CIGR formula for growing-finishing pigs and broilers. Results from calculated heat and moisture production with the relatively simple formula in the CIGR report were compared with results from a more comprehensive model. ABSTRACT Studies related to water sorption in seeds are essential for the design and optimization of storage systems. The objective of this research was to determine and model the adsorption isotherms and calculate the latent heat of water vaporization, differential enthalpy and entropy, the isokinetic theory and Gibbs free energy for ‘Cumari-do-Pará’ pepper seeds. The equilibrium moisture contents were obtained by the static gravimetric method at temperatures of 30, 35 and 40 °C and water activities between 0.290 and 0.900 (decimal). ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to determine and evaluate the thermodynamic properties for different equilibrium moisture contents in baru fruits (Dipteryx alata Vogel), using the direct static method to obtain the experimental data. The Modified Halsey model was used to determine the thermodynamic properties of baru fruits. Results concluded that thermodynamic properties are influenced by moisture content. The water vaporization latent heat increases with the decrease in equilibrium moisture content. The baru fruit desorption process is controlled by enthalpy. Gibbs free energy is positive for the temperatures studied with the increase over desorption, which describes a non-spontaneous process.

ABSTRACT Thermodynamic properties provide information on energy demand and kinetic parameters in water sorption processes in agricultural products. Such information is essential to analyze and scale drying and storage equipment. The objective of this study was to determine the thermodynamic properties involved in the water desorption process in Buchenavia capitata (Vahl) Eichler seeds with moisture contents ranging from 13.31 to 7.21% dry basis (d.b.), obtained by the indirect static method, at temperatures of 10, 20, 30 and 40 °C. The latent heat of vaporization, differential entropy and Gibbs free energy increase with the reduction of the moisture content of the seeds.
