Gene expression profiling analysis of lung adenocarcinoma BJMBR
Xu,H.; Ma,J.; Wu,J.; Chen,L.; Sun,F.; Qu,C.; Zheng,D.; Xu,S..
The present study screened potential genes related to lung adenocarcinoma, with the aim of further understanding disease pathogenesis. The GSE2514 dataset including 20 lung adenocarcinoma and 19 adjacent normal tissue samples from 10 patients with lung adenocarcinoma aged 45-73 years was downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the two groups were screened using the t-test. Potential gene functions were predicted using functional and pathway enrichment analysis, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks obtained from the STRING database were constructed with Cytoscape. Module analysis of PPI networks was performed through MCODE in Cytoscape. In total, 535 upregulated and 465 downregulated DEGs were...

Increased expression of tissue factor and protease-activated receptor-1 does not correlate with thrombosis in human lung adenocarcinoma BJMBR
de Meis,E.; Azambuja,D.; Ayres-Silva,J.P.; Zamboni,M.; Pinheiro,V.R.; Levy,R.A.; Monteiro,R.Q..
A correlation between cancer and hypercoagulability has been described for more than a century. Patients with cancer are at increased risk for thrombotic complications and the clotting initiator protein, tissue factor (TF), is possibly involved in this process. Moreover, TF may promote angiogenesis and tumor growth. In addition to TF, thrombin seems to play a relevant role in tumor biology, mainly through activation of protease-activated receptor-1 (PAR-1). In the present study, we prospectively studied 39 lung adenocarcinoma patients in relation to the tumor expression levels of TF and PAR-1 and their correlation with thrombosis outcome and survival. Immunohistochemical analysis showed TF positivity in 22 patients (56%), most of them in advanced stages...

Revealing potential long non-coding RNA biomarkers in lung adenocarcinoma using long non-coding RNA-mediated competitive endogenous RNA network BJMBR
Zhu,T-G.; Xiao,X.; Wei,Q.; Yue,M.; Zhang,L-X..
In our study, we aimed to reveal potential long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) biomarkers in lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) using lncRNA-mediated competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) network (LMCN). Competing lncRNA-mRNA interactions were identified using the hypergeometric test. Co-expression analysis for the competing lncRNA-mRNA interactions was implemented, and relying on the weight value >0.8, a highly competitive LMCN was further constructed. Degree distribution, betweenness and closeness for LMCN were carried out to analyze the network structure. Functional analyses of mRNAs in LMCN were carried out to further explore the biological functions of lncRNAs. Biclique algorithm was utilized to extract competing modules from the LMCN. Finally, we verified our...
