Bilan du Réseau National d'observation de la qualité du milieu marin (RNO) en Normandie (1983-1992) ArchiMer

L'objectif principal du Réseau National d'Observation de la qualité du milieu marin (RNO) est l'appréciation des niveaux et tendances de certains contarninants, organiques et métalliques, dans le milieu marin. Ce rapport dresse le bilan de 10 ans de surveillance par le RNO, de tout le littoral normand. Les paramètres retenus pour cette étude sont : le cuivre, le plomb, le zinc, le cadmium, pour les métaux, les PCB, les HAP, les aHCH et yHCH, le DDT et ses métabolites, pour les composés organiques. L'étude de l'évolution des teneurs montre que les métaux ont tous une tendance à la hausse, tandis que les composés organiques sont tous en baisse. On constate également que l'estuaire et la baie de Seine constituent l'ensemble côtier français le plus contaminé...

Etude d’outils d’évaluation de la contamination ChimiqUe dans les eaux de la ManchE - ECUME ArchiMer

L’étude ECUME était une opération destinée à tester localement dans les eaux côtières du littoral normand, des outils développés nationalement lors de nombreux travaux, et pressentis pour être utilisés lors des prochaines campagnes d’évaluation de la qualité chimique des masses d’eau littorales pour la DCE.  Ceci afin de déterminer la méthode la plus adaptée et opérationnelle de les déployer, et comparer leurs résultats entre eux et par rapport aux connaissances actuelles des niveaux de contamination. Trois sites ont été choisis : Chausey, baie des Veys et estuaire de Seine. The coastal areas are subject to multiple anthropogenic pressures including chemical pollution that can pose a real risk to the sustainability of aquatic species. The Arcachon Bay, macrotidal lagoon located on the French Atlantic coast, is the important ecosystem for oyster farming. But for several years, the oyster farms face lower recruitment and high mortality of oyster spat. Influence des rejets urbains sur la contamination de la rivière de Morlaix par les métaux ArchiMer

Raw and processed outflow from the Morlaix city sewage treatment plant were monitored every fourth hour for a 24 hours period, and monthly for eight months. The urban Hg, Cd, Cu, Zn and Pb outflow was shown to be much less than the river-borne flux. Sediments from the catchment area and estuary show that the influence of the town on the metal concentrations is limited to the harbour basin. The metal concentations are essentially controlled by granulometry.

Influence hydrothermale dans les sédiments de fosses de la mer Rouge par l'étude de quelques éléments traces ArchiMer

The Cu, Ni, Fe, Cr and Zr concentrations were evaluated to study the influence of hydrothermal activity on the sediments of six Red-Sea deeps. Comparison between the Ni/Fe and Cu/Fe ratios supports distinction between hydrothermal and non-hydrothermal sediments, whereas anti-correlation between Zr and Cr concentrations results from hydrothermal influence. The results allow us to envisage that the sediments of the Suakin Deep did not undergo a hydrothermal activity and that this hydrothermal influence was weak in the Valdivia Deep. The sediments of Port-Soudan Deep recorded a hydrothermal activity, whereas this activity was the strongest in the Thetis and Atlantis II deeps.

Les métaux lourds dans les sédiments superficiels de la côte littorale de la région d'El Jadida et de l'estuaire d'Oum R'bia (MAROC) OceanDocs

Cette étude se propose d’évaluer la concentration métallique des sédiments superficiels de la côte littorale de la région d’El Jadida et de l’estuaire d’Oum R’bia de la ville d’Azemmour. Les résultats ont permis en premier lieu de présenter une estimation des concentrations en Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Pb et Cd dans les sédiments ( fraction < 63mm ) et de donner en suite une idée sur leur répartition dans les différents sites étudiés. Les concentrations métalliques relevées dans les sédiments superficiels présentent en général des valeurs plus faibles que celles provenant d'autres aires géographiques.

The Water European Framework Directive requires the implementation of programs to monitor the chemical quality of water bodies (freshwater, transition water and seawater), based on grab measurements of concentrations of various contaminants (metals, organic compounds). The results are limited by several analytical difficulties, and the poor representativity because of the temporal variability of contamination. The passive sampling techniques, which basically consist of concentrating substances on a submerged device for a given period, and analyzing accumulated substances, should improve the monitoring, by simplifying analytical issues (lower detection limits, analysis in a simpler matrix), and allowing time integration of the contamination. METROC program (part of the MEDICIS program about study and fate of the chemical contamination in Western Mediterranean Sea) focuses on sources and wastes issued by large metropolis, with the agglomeration of Marseille as a pilot site. This report presents the results of a sampling campaign in rivers and urban discharges in Marseille and on different types of contaminants (metals, PAH, PCB and PBDE) in dissolved and particulate phases, in dry and rain periods. TOPHYPAC is a field study that was conducted in the Charente river estuary (Marennes-Oléron bay). The main goal was to assess the possible impact of chemical contamination with copper and pesticides on phytoplankton communities. Physical, chemical (nutrients, metals and pesticides) and biological (phytoplankton community) parameters were monitored in the field during three years, from 2011 to 2014. World aquaculture is a fast growing activity and the control of its waste becomes a key issue. Compared to traditional systems, recirculating systems allow to reduce replacement water and waste volumes. Nevertheless their effluents are more concentrated in dissolved nutrients (nitrate, phosphate). The high rate algae pond (HRAP) is one of the possible treatment technique to remove those nutrients. Utilisation des métallothionéines comme biomarqueur de la contamination métallique : variabilité entre sites et organes chez l'huı̂tre Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

Heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Hg and Zn) and metallothionein levels were determined in oysters Crassostrea gigas from two sites: the Gironde Estuary (contaminated site) and Bourgneuf Bay (uncontaminated site). Metallothionein levels led us to suspect the presence of cadmium in the environment when quantified in the gills. Soluble cadmium and metallothioneins were positively correlated in the digestive gland of oysters from Gironde (contaminated site), but metallothionein levels in this organ were not significantly different from levels observed in the digestive gland of oysters from Bourgneuf Bay (uncontaminated site). Conversely, no correlation was noticed between metals and metallothioneins in the gills of oysters from Gironde despite metallothionein levels...
