Aim: The composition of the meibum of blepharitis patients is characterised by increased levels of branched-chain fatty acids (BCFAs) that return to normal values in patients treated with cyclins and lid hygiene. The aim of this study was to determine if BCFAs had toxic effects on conjunctival cells related to the disease.Methods: Chang and IOBA-NHC conjunctival human cells were treated with BCFAs (isoC16 and isoC20) or palmitic acid as a control for 4 h or 24 h at 50 μM or 100 μM. We used preS2-S′-β-galactosidase, a three domain fusion protein that aggregates extensively at 43 °C in the cytoplasm of Escherichia coli to search for multicopy suppressors of protein aggregation and inclusion bodies formation, and took advantage of the known differential solubility of preS2-S′-β-galactosidase at 37 and 43 °C to develop a selection procedure for the gene products that would prevent its aggregation in vivo at 43 °C. Membrane phospholipids and sterols in microfiltered milk fat globules Inra

Native milk fat globules of various mean diameters, ranging from d43 = 2.3 mm to8.0 mm, were obtained using microfiltration of raw whole milk. After milk fat globule washing, the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) was separated by manual churning.After total lipid extraction and separation of polar lipids, their phospholipid (PL) and sterol composition was measured using thin-layer chromatography, methyl ester analyses by gas chromatography, and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The main PL species were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin. The respective fatty acid composition of each PL species was measured. Polar interactions in flavan-3-ol adsorption on solid surfaces Inra

The adsorption of flavan-3-ol monomers and grape seed procyanidin fractions of different mean degrees of polymerization was studied on three surfaces by means of adsorption isotherms. Reversibility upon dilution was also investigated. These surfaces were three polymeric microfiltration membranes, presenting close Lifshitz-van der Waals components of their surface tension but differing in their surface polar properties. The electron-donor character of the surface was of primary importance for the adsorption of nongalloylated monomers. Increasing the number of phenolic rings above two (galloylated monomers and procyanidins) sharply enhanced flavan-3-ol affinity for surfaces whatever their polarity. Guard cells adjust their volume by changing their ion content due to intense fluxes that, for K+, are believed to flow through inward or outward Shaker channels. Because Shaker channels can be homo- or heterotetramers and Arabidopsis guard cells express at least five genes encoding inward Shaker subunits, including the two major ones, KAT1 and KAT2, the molecular identity of inward Shaker channels operating therein is not yet completely elucidated. Regulation of the anion channel of the chloroplast envelope from spinach Inra

Several anions such as Cl–, NO– 2, SO2– 4, and PO3– 4 are known to modulate the photosynthetic activity. Moreover, the chloroplast metabolism requires the exchange of both inorganic and organic (e.g., triose phosphate, dicarboxylic acid, ATP) anions between the cytoplasmand the stroma. A chloride channel form the chloroplast envelope was reconstituted in planar lipid bilayers. We show that the channel is active in conditions prevailing in the plant. The open probability increases with the ionic strength of the experimental solutions and is maximal at 0 mV. Ce travail de thèse a eu pour objectif principal l’étude thermodynamique des changements métaboliques dans l’acidogénèse. L’acidogénèse est un procédé anaérobie à double intérêt qui en traitant des résidus organiques, permet de produire des composés chimiques comme l'hydrogène, l'éthanol et les acides organiques. Par conséquent, l’acidogénèse se place comme un procédé biotechnologique dans le concept de bioraffinerie. En outre, ce processus n'a pas besoin de conditions stériles d'opération et fonctionne sur une large gamme de pH. Ces changements métaboliques sont dépendants des modifications dans les conditions opératoires.
