The study of the crab Cancer pagurus , along the Brittany coast, has revealed new information about its movements, growth and reproduction. The 1439 crab tagging has been effected either on land using the Edwards technique "suture-tag" or onboard using a similar technique to the Gundersen method of "toggle-tag". The results confirm that males are relatively sedentary, the females migrate more. To estimate growth, the author used the "capture-recapture" method and the results from crab rearing. It appeared that the molt increment is not constant and generally, so the molt frequency, it percentage decreases when the size increases. |

The paper was developed in order to arrange the data gathered on this subject and to generate new hypotheses in connection with the trophic strategy of the northern stock of anchovy in the area between latitudes 35°-42°S. Such estimates were finally compared with the values of the gravimetric determinations of stomach contents- as converted to caloric values - of individuals grouped by total-length amd age classes, ecological areas, and seasons of the year. The set of results as obtained conforms the initial basis for developing Part IV of the Trophic Ecology of the Argentine anchovy as related to food consumption estimates, by stock biomass and annual classes, with back-calculations to age class 0, and for applying "regional patterns" that result from the... |

At present, the majority of fisheries are monitored and regulated in areas which are delineated by arbitrary ICES boundaries which do not necessarily have logical or consistent relationships with biological processes or fish movements. The biogeographical identification of Channel stocks is, therefore, an important step towards developing a rational strategy for the management of their fisheries. This synthesis is based on the wide available knowledge which has not been yet entirely exploited with the purpose of stock identification, for 25 commercially important species in the Channel. In addition, principal technics for stock identification are reviewed likewise environmental characteristics of the Channel, which represent fundamental components in... |

Through their spatial mobility, African fishermen and fish traders explore and exploit new niches: primarily fishing grounds and fish markets (see Chauveau 1991). Ghanaian canoe fishermen are among the groups most famous for such activity. In the twentieth century, they migrated extensively in coastal West Africa, reaching as far as Mauritania to the north and Congo to the south in order to fish in areas where the local fishermen have under-exploited their fishing grounds, and markets are unsaturated with fish (Delauney 1991; Boujou 2000). These migrants’ contributions in their host countries in terms of technological innovation in the fisheries, in terms of new knowledge and institutions, and not the least in terms of food supply, are increasingly being... |

Vertebrate Cyclostome, the european sea lamprey is a sea spawning migrator amphihaline species, which is a parasite during its growing phase at sea. After the spawning migration, lampreys couple in the upper reach of water courses, they lay their eggs, then die from physiological misery. The eggs develop sheltered into a nest until hatching of small larvae, the ammocoetes. Morphologically very different from the adults, the ammocoetes spend a several years sedentary life, being burried into the sediment. Then, they metamorphose into young lampreys which undertake their downstream migration. As soon as they enter sea water, they continue growing at the expense of several species of fishes. |

This study aimed to analyze autosomal Alu insertions in three localities from Patagonia Argentina belonging to the Andes region and the coast of the Chubut province. Knowledge of the genetic diversity of these populations, along with the genealogical data, will contribute to better understand historical information, differential migration process and bio-demographic composition of the Central Patagonia region. In order to achieve this objective, 16 autosomal Alu insertion polymorphisms were genotyped: ACE, APO-A1, TPA25, FXIIIB, A25, HS4.32, D1, HS4.69, HS2.43, Sb19.12, Yb8NBC120, Sb19.3, Yb8NBC125, Ya5NBC221, DM, and CD4. Our results showed that the Central Patagonia region presents a complex continental genetic admixture with marked Native American roots... |

Background French Guiana is characterized by a very multicultural population, made up of formerly settled groups (Amerindians, Maroons, Creoles) and more recent migrants (mostly from Latin America and the Caribbean). It is the ideal place to try to understand the influence of intercultural exchanges on the composition of medicinal floras and the evolution of phytotherapies under the effect of cross-culturalism. Methods A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods was used. Semi-directive interviews were conducted in 12 localities of French Guiana’s coast between January 2016 and June 2017, and the responses to all closed questions collected during the survey were computerized in an Excel spreadsheet to facilitate quantitative processing. Herbarium... |
