Two outbreaks of contagious agalactia by Mycoplasma agalactiae occurred in Paraíba State, Northeastern Region of Brazil are reported. The disease was characterized by mastitis, agalactia and polyarthritis in does and polyarthritis and conjunctivitis in kids and lambs. Fever and anorexia were also observed. Morbidy was from 26.1% to 100% in does, 36.5 to 100% in kids and 49% in lambs. In one farm 14.3% of the lactating goats and 6.4% of the kids died or were euthanized. In the other, 3.3% of the does, 36.5% of the kids and 22.9% of the lambs died and 84 affected goats were euthanized to control the disease. This paper aims to evaluate the efficiency of three inactive vaccines against contagious agalactia prepared with samples of Mycoplasma agalactiae isolated in Brazil and different adjuvants. Vaccine 1 adsorbed with aluminum hydroxide was administered in 23 goats (Gc1) and 13 sheep (Gov1); vaccine 2 containing Montanide IMS-2215-VG was administered in 22 goats (Gc2) and 12 sheep (Gov2) and vaccine 3, containing Montanide Gel-01 was administered in 22 goats (Gc3) and 12 sheep (Gov3). A Embrapa Caprinos e Ovinos iniciou seus trabalhos de pesquisa na área de Sanidade Animal em 1975 com ênfase nas áreas de Parasitologia, Patologia, Patologia Clínica e Bacteriologia. A criação de caprinos e ovinos no Brasil tem crescido nos últimos anos, principalmente devido ao estímulo de políticas públicas, mas pouca ênfase foi dada ao controle de doenças infecciosas, como o complexo micoplasmose, especialmente a Agalaxia contagiosa.
