Winter mortalities of the manila clam rl1d1 tapes philippinarum along the french atlantic coasts : biochemical and ecophysio-logical aspects. For some years, high mortalities on Manila clam's breeding occured at the end of Winter on Atlantic coasts. The ecophysioIogicaI survey of population was performed using a ground culture technique. This permitted to characterize the conditions related with mortalities such as a loss in dry weight and a decrease of metabol ic reserves. A comparison of biochemical composition was conducted during the occurence of mortality on different sites along the Atlantic coast, and in different ecosystems (tidal land, oysters ponds).

La diatomee Navicula ostrearia Bory en baie de Bourgneuf ArchiMer

Previously, Navicula ostrearia B. has been described only from the Marennes-Oleron district of the Atlantic coast of France. However, this pennate diatom is also present In the Bay of Bourgneuf where breeding of green-gilled oysters were recognized in sea basins called oyster ponds. A short description of observations made with the optical microscope precedes description of high magnification examination of the frustule made with the scanning electron microscope. This combination of techniques shows a polymorphism between the external and internal surfaces of diatom valves.

Production des micro-algues des claires ostréicoles en relation avec l'azote organique dissous excrété par les huîtres ArchiMer

Estimations of algal growth potential (AGP) of oyster-pond waters have been made by the use of bioassays and nutrient analysis. Data obtained demonstrated that nitrogen is the nutrient Iimiting AGP and that an important part of algal biomass is supported by organic nutrients. Such an uptake ranges from 0.6 to 30.7 µg-at.I-1 nitrogen ; which represents up to six times the total amount of inorganic nitrogen taken up. U.V oxydation and subsequent chemical analysis shown DON concentrations in oyster-pond waters varied with oyster presence or absence: values recorded were 10-40 µg-at N.I-1 when oysters were not present, and up to 50-60 µg-at N.I-1 when oysters were covering the bottom of the pond. The oyster Crassostrea gigas was demonstrated to excrete 77-93 %...
