Complément à l'étude épidémiologique du foyer de bilharziose à Schistosoma mansoni de Kara (Nord Togo) IRD

Cette étude épidémiologique du foyer de bilharziose à #Z. mansoni$ de Kara (Togo) vient compléter une étude précédente parue dans ce même Bulletin en 1988. L'enquête malacologique a montré que les mollusques (#Biomphalaria pfeifferi$) étaient infectés dans la proportion de 3 à 15 % suivant les saisons. L'émission cercarienne maximale se situe entre 11 et 13 heures. La survie des cercaires et leur aptitude à infecter la souris ne dépasse pas 16 heures. L'étude chétotaxique des miracidiums a permis d'établir un indice moyen des papilles ciliées de 22,11 correspondant bien à la zone indiciaire des souches africaines. Abstract /Rhizobia are phylogenetically disparate a- and b-proteobacteria that have achieved the environmentally essential functionof fixing atmospheric nitrogen in symbiosis with legumes. Ample evidence indicates that horizontal transfer of symbioticplasmids/islands has played a crucial role in rhizobia evolution. However, adaptive mechanisms that allow the recipientgenomes to express symbiotic traits are unknown. Plants are continuously exposed to attack by potential phytopathogens. Disease prevention requires pathogen recognition and the induction of a multifaceted defense response. We are studying the non-host disease resistance response of parsley to the oomycete, Phytophthora sojae using a cell culture-based system. Receptor-mediated recognition of P. sojae may be achieved through a thirteen amino acid peptide sequence (Pep-13) present within an abundant cell wall transglutaminase. Possibilités actuelles de lutte contre la filariose à Loa loa IRD

#Loa loa$ est actuellement considéré comme un important agent pathogène pour l'homme. La réalité de son retentissement clinique a été clairement établie et la nécessité du traitement s'impose. Employée seule ou associée à la diethylcarbamazine, l'ivermectine offre d'intéressantes perspectives thérapeutiques. La revue des méthodes de lutte appliquables aux vecteurs ne permet de retenir, à côté des mesures individuelles de protection, que le piégeage. Afin de réduire l'endémicité de la loase, un traitement de masse par l'ivermectine peut être dès à présent envisagé. Quoiqu'il en soit, le devenir de cette filariose est directement dépendant de celui du bloc forestier d'Afrique Centrale. (Résumé d'auteur)

Protection of apple against fire blight induced by an hrpL mutant of Erwinia amylovora Inra

A regulatory hrpL non-virulent mutant of Erwinia amylovora is effective in controlling fire blight disease when inoculated on apple seedlings simultaneously with the pathogenic parental strain. Mechanisms involved in this protective effect were investigated. The use of two marker genes, uidA and lacZ, expressed in the hrpL mutant and the pathogenic strain, respectively, allowed to localize simultaneously the two inoculated strains in plant tissue. An anti-beta-glucuronidase antibody was also used to detect the hrpL mutant. Both techniques indicated that the two strains localized mainly in separate areas of the leaf tissue. The pathogenicity for honey-bee larvae of microorganisms associated with european foulbrood National Institute of Agronomic Research

Tests made on larvae in normal bee colonies with pure cultures of Streptococcus pluton (White), Streptococcus faecalis Andrews and Horder, and Bacillus alvei Cheshire and Cheyne, three bacterial species commonly associated with European foulbrood (EFB), showed that S. pluton was the natural prirnary etiological agent. These results, together with other recent work, indicate that S. pluton is the cause of EFB throughout the world. Of the other associated bacterial species, Bacterium eurydice White, which is the most commnon, and S. faecalis probably have supplementary pathogenic effects. Bacillus alvei and other less common bacilli are saprophytes of the dead larvae.
