Chemical composition and fatty acid profile in meat from grazing lamb diets supplemented with ryegrass hay, fishmeal and soya bean meal as PUFA sources 65
Romero-Bernal,Jose; Almaraz,Ernesto Morales; Ortega,Octavio Alonso Castelán; Salas,Nazario Pescador; González-Ronquillo,Manuel.
ABSTRACT: This study examined the characteristics of the fatty acids profile in the meat of lambs fed grazing and supplemented with different PUFA sources. Thirty Suffolk lambs were used (37.2±5.4kg BW), grazing on perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) (12h d-1) and supplemented (30g kg-1 BW0.75) with ryegrass hay (RGH), or supplements formulated with fishmeal (FHM) or soybean meal (SBM). Lambs were used in a completely randomized design. Results showed an effect on total SFA, with SBM higher than RGH (P=0.033), and SBM and FHM showing higher MUFA content compared with RGH (P=0.001). Total PUFA content was higher for RGH, followed by FHM and with the lowest content for SBM (P=0.001). Concluding that there is a variation in fatty acid content depending on the...

Effect of high-fat diets on body composition, lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity, and the role of exercise on these parameters 56
Coelho,D.F.; Pereira-Lancha,L.O.; Chaves,D.S.; Diwan,D.; Ferraz,R.; Campos-Ferraz,P.L.; Poortmans,J.R.; Lancha Junior,A.H..
Dietary fat composition can interfere in the development of obesity due to the specific roles of some fatty acids that have different metabolic activities, which can alter both fat oxidation and deposition rates, resulting in changes in body weight and/or composition. High-fat diets in general are associated with hyperphagia, but the type of dietary fat seems to be more important since saturated fats are linked to a positive fat balance and omental adipose tissue accumulation when compared to other types of fat, while polyunsaturated fats, omega-3 and omega-6, seem to increase energy expenditure and decrease energy intake by specific mechanisms involving hormone-sensitive lipase, activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) and...

The objective of present study was to examine the effect of molasses and ammonium sulfate concentration on intracellular lipid accumulation by Trichosporon asahii. Nine culture media with different concentration of molasses (M,%) and ammonium sulfate (N,g/l) includings M8N0.5, M8N1.0, M8N1.5, M12N0.5, M12N1.0, M12N1.5, M16N0.5, M16N1.0 and M16N1.5 were randomly assigned in completely randomized design (CRD). Five milliliter of inoculums was transferred in 45 ml of media and incubated at 30oC with shaking at 160 rpm for 6 days. Results illustrated that lipid content was higher when T. asahii was cultured in the medium M12N0.5. This indicated that medium M12N0.5 was suitable for producing single cell oil for use as fat supplement in animal diet

Effects of different dietary lipids on the fatty acid composition of broiler abdominal fat 89
Rondelli,SG; Martinez,O; García,PT.
The effect of three different lipid sources (soybean oil, chicken oil or bovine fat) on the abdominal fat fatty acid composition in 50 day-old broiler chickens was evaluated. A completely randomized design was used, with 4 treatments, 8 repetitions and 40 Arbor Acres broiler chicks of each sex. The four treatments were isocaloric and isoproteic with the following characteristics: T1 Control (Soybean-corn); T2 Control + 3% soybean oil; T3 Control + 3% chicken oil; and T4 Control + 3% bovine fat. The lipids from the diets had significantly statistical effects (p<0,05) on the fatty acid composition of broiler abdominal fat. Multivariate techniques also showed differences in fatty acid composition within treatments due to sex. The studied dietary lipids...

Estabilidade oxidativa de óleo de peixe encapsulado em diferentes tipos de embalagem em condição ambiente 116
Pacheco,Selma Guidorizzi Antonio; Regitano-D'Arce,Marisa Aparecida Bismara.

Turcu,RP; Olteanu,M; Criste,RD; Panaite,TD; Ropotă,M; Vlaicu,PA; Drăgotoiu,D.
ABSTRACT The 7-week feeding trial evaluated the effect of 2% grapeseed meal used as natural antioxidant in the diets for slow-growing Hubbard broiler chicks, aged 14 days. The chicks were weighed individually and assigned to two groups (C and E), with 40 chicks per group, housed under conditions of temperature, humidity and light regimen according to the hybrid management guide. The basal ingredients of the conventional diet were corn, wheat, gluten, soybean meal and 2% flaxseed meal, which is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Compared to the control formulation, the experimental formulation included 2% grapeseed meal, both in the growing and finishing stages. The broilers had free access to feed and water. In the end of the feeding trial, blood samples...

Influence nutritionnelle de la vitamine A et de la nature des lipides sur la morphogenèse de la larve de bar (Dicentrarchus labrax): implicaton de la voie des rétinoïdes 5
Villeneuve, Laure.
The aim of this study was to determine the nutritional effects of vitamin A and PUFA (including EPA and DHA) on sea bass larvae development. An excess of vitamin A in the diet led to malformations affecting the cephalic region linked to an increase of RARgama transcription and the loss of a vertebra when larvae were fed this diet from 8 days post hatch (dph) to 13 dph. A diet containing an excess of PUFA disrupted the development of larvae vertebral column, deformities were correlated to a decrease of RARalpha, RARgama, RXRalpha and BMP4 transcription and an additional vertebra appeared when larvae were fed this diet from 8 dph to 13 dph. A diet containing 31 mg/kg of dry matter of vitamin A and between 1.1 and 2.3% of EPA + DHA allows larvae to develop...

Intake of high levels of vitamin A and polyunsaturated fatty acids during different developmental periods modifies the expression of morphogenesis genes in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) 5
Villeneuve, Laure; Gisbert, Enric; Moriceau, Jacques; Cahu, Chantal; Zambonino, Jose-luis.
The effect of the feeding period on larval development was investigated in European sea bass larvae by considering the expression level of some genes involved in morphogenesis. Larvae were fed a control diet except during three different periods (period A: from 8 to 13 d post-hatching (dph); period B: from 13 to 18 dph; period C: from 18 to 23 dph) with two compound diets containing high levels of vitamin A or PUFA. European sea bass morphogenesis was affected by these two dietary nutrients during the early stages of development. The genes involved in morphogenesis could be modulated between 8 and 13 dph, and our results indicated that retinoids and fatty acids influenced two different molecular pathways that in turn implicated two different gene cascades,...

Lipid composition of the liver oil of the ray, Himantura bleekeri 5
Le Nechet, Sandrine; Dubois, Nolwenn; Gouygou, Jean-paul; Berge, Jean-pascal.
If rays are traditionally fished for their caudal fins, the rest of the body is wasted, except part of the skin that can be transformed into leather. Liver oil of the ray, Himantura bleekeri, was characterized in terms of lipid class composition and fatty acid profile. Liver oil content was high and represented 54% of the liver weight (w/w). Neutral lipids were predominant (92%), major components being triacylglycerols (63%). Other neutral lipids identified were hydrocarbons, sterol esters, mono- and di-acylglycerols, free fatty acids, sterols and glyceryl ethers. Polyunsaturated fatty acids of the n-3 series, namely eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids, were high (4% and 16%, respectively). Cholesterol was the major component in the sterol fractions...

Supplementation of broiler breeders with fat sources and vitamin e: carry over effect on performance, carcass yield, and meat quality offspring 45
Fernandes,J.I.M.; Bordignon,H.L.F.; Prokoski,K.; Kosmann,R.C.; Vanroo,E.; Murakami,A.E..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate two sources of oil (soybean and fish) and four additional levels of vitamin E (0, 150, 250 and 350mg/kg diet) in breeder diets between the 42nd and 56th week of age and its effect on performance and meat quality of offspring. The supplementation of fish oil in the maternal diet increased the deposition of DHA and CLA in egg yolk. From 1 to 35 days of age, intermediate levels of vitamin E resulted in lower weight gain and feed intake. To feed conversion, the best result was obtained supplementing the maternal diet with soybean oil, regardless of vitamin inclusion. In addition, the evaluation of meat quality, the fish oil-supplemented-diet resulted in lower moisture loss of the breast fillets. For maternal diet...
