The present work reports the isolation of eight compounds fromPestalotiopsis sp. EJC07 isolated as endophytic fromBauhinia guianensis, a tipical plant of the Amazon. The compounds (4S)-4,8-dihydroxy-1-tetralone (1), uracil (2), uridin (3), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (4), ergosterol (5), ergosterol peroxide (6), cerevisterol (7) and ducitol (8) were isolated by chromatographic procedures and identified by spectral methods of 1D and 2D NMR and MS. The compound 1 is being reported for the first time in the genusPestalotiopsis. |

The objective of this work was to characterize and cluster isolates of Pestalotiopsis species and to identify those that are pathogenic to pecan, based on morphological and molecular characters. Pestalotiopsis spp. isolates were identified by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and β‑tubulin regions. Identification methods were compared to indicate the key morphological characters for species characterization. Thirteen isolates were used for the pathogenicity tests. Morphological characterization was performed using the following variables: mycelial growth rate, sporulation, colony pigmentation, and conidial length and width. Ten pathogenic isolates were identified, three as Pestalotiopsis clavispora and three as P. cocculi.... |

Abstract: Over the past seven years, pestalotiopsis has been the main strawberry disease found all over the crops located in the south of Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The leaves of the plants were severely at- tacked by an uncommon fungus in the regional crops, mainly in 2005 and 2006. The non-immediate identification of the microorganism resulted in catastrophic pathogen control processes performed by farmers who, eagerly trying to save their crops ended up using a series of toxic agrochemicals that had been previously purchased for the control of other types of diseases. Due to these events, the present paper aims at identifying the pathogen and put chemical as well as biological products into test that might help control the disease. Results showed that... |
