Controlling Phalaris Minor in the Indian Rice-Wheat Belt AgEcon
Vincent, David P.; Quirke, Derek.
The ACIAR-managed project CS1/1996/013, Herbicide-resistant weeds of wheat in India and Australia: integrated management, was designed to find a long-term method of control of Phalaris minor, a problem weed of the rice–wheat cropping system of north-western India. By 1993, the weed had developed resistance to isoproturon, a herbicide which had delivered effective weed control for 15 years. The short-term solution, implemented before the ACIAR project commenced, involved identification and registration of a new set of herbicides. But these new herbicides were expensive. To ensure high adoption they needed to be combined with changes in wheat-growing techniques that would provide cost savings to help farmers pay for them. And to avoid the re-emergence of...

Effectiveness of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria in facilitating lead and nutrient uptake by little seed canary grass Rev. Bras. Bot.
Zaefarian,Faezeh; Vahidzadeh,Samaneh; Rahdari,Parvaneh; Rezvani,Mohammad; Zadeh,Hossein Ghani.
We investigated the effectiveness of Nitroxin inoculation on lead (Pb) and nutrient uptakes by little seed canary grass. The factors tested included inoculation (or not) with Nitroxin and different soil concentrations of Pb (0, 200, 400 and 800mgPbkg-1 soil). Increasing soil concentrations of Pb decreased stem, leaf and root dry weights. Shoot phosphorus concentrations increased in parallel with increasing soil Pb concentrations. Nitroxin inoculation did not alter the phosphorus concentration of the roots. The Pb translocation factor was >1 in inoculated treatments in the Pb soil concentration range of 200 to 400mgkg-1; the translocation factor for 800mgPbkg‑1 with no inoculation of Nitroxin was, however, <1. Our results indicated that the Pb...

Evaluation of Fenoxaprop-P-Ethyl Resistant Littleseed Canarygrass (Phalaris minor) in Pakistan Planta Daninha
ABBAS,T.; NADEEM,M.A.; TANVEER,A.; AHMAD,R..
ABSTRACT To test resistance status of Phalaris minor (littleseed canary grass) to fenoxaprop-P-ethyl in Pakistan, a field survey was conducted during 2014. Uncontrolled P. minor plants were selected for seed collection from wheat fields where fenoxaprop-P-ethyl was used to control P. minor. Seeds were collected from eight different locations near Fasialabad, Pakistan. Susceptible plants were also selected near Faisalabad having no history of fenoxaprop-P-ethyluse for comparison. These seeds were grown in pots for resistance confirmation using completely randomized design with factorial arrangement having four replicates. Four doses of fenoxaprop-P-ethylcontrol (0X), 46.9 (0.5X), 93.7 (1X) and 187 (2X) g a.i. ha-1 were sprayed at 3 to 4 leaf stage of P....

LOW DOSES OF FENOXAPROP-P-ETHYL CAUSE HORMESIS IN LITTLESEED CANARYGRASS AND WILD OAT Planta Daninha
ABBAS,T.; NADEEM,M.A.; TANVEER,A.; ZOHAIB,A..
ABSTRACT Hormetic effects of herbicides at ultra-low doses have been proved against range of crop species, although available data of herbicides hormesis about the weeds growth is very limited. This study investigates the promotive effect of low doses of fenoxaprop-Pethyl on growth and seed production of littleseed canarygrass and wild oat. Pot experiments were conducted twice in Wire House at Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, during 2014-15. Seven different concentrations of fenoxaprop-P-ethyl [0, 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 g a.i. ha-1] were applied as post emergence herbicide at 3-4 leaves stage of the weeds. Results revealed that increase in growth occurred within first two weeks after spraying at fenoxaprop-P-ethyl doses 1, 3...

Use of Beta vulgaris allelopathic properties to control some weeds associated with Lupinus albus plant comparing with two recommended herbicides. CIGR Journal
El Wakeel, Mona Adel; Dawood, Mona Gergis; El-Rokiek, Kowthar Gad; El-Awadi, Mohamed El-Sayed; Saad El-Din, Samia Amin.
Two pot experiments were carried out during two successive winter seasons of (2016 / 2017) and (2017 / 2018) at the green house of National Research Centre (NRC), Giza, Egypt. The experiments were conducted to compare the allelopathic effect of Beta vulgaris (shoot and root aqueous extracts at 3, 6, 9%) to chemical herbicides (clodinafop-Propargyl and Basagran at recommended dose (140 g/fed and 1.5 l/fed, respectively) in controlling weeds (Phalaris minor and Malva parviflora) associated with Lupinus albus plants. Results showed that all applied aqueous extracts caused reduction in two weeds biomass under investigation. Meanwhile, root aqueous extract was more effective than shoot aqueous extract in controlling weeds. It is worthy to mention that phenolic...
