This work aimed to analyse Eucalyptus grandis W.Hill ex Maiden seed behaviour, under controlled deterioration, and to estimate viability equation constants for the species. Seeds were harvested in the growing season of 1999, and the moisture contents were adjusted from 11.3% to a range between 1.2 and 18.1% at 25ºC. The subsamples were sealed into laminate aluminium-foil packets, for storage in incubators at 40, 50 and 65±0.5ºC. The seeds presented orthodox performance, in which the constants for predicting seed longevity of E. grandis were K E = 9.661, C W = 6.467, C H = 0.03498 and C Q = 0.0002330. The usual and inverse relationship between water content and seed longevity was also observed. The lowest moisture content limit for application of the... |

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fruit maturation stage on the physiological quality of J. curcas seeds during storage. Thus, seeds were extracted from fruits harvested at different maturity stages based on external color, i.e., yellow, yellow-brown and brown (dry fruits). After natural drying, the seeds were packed in Kraft paper bag and stored for 18 months at laboratory environment. Initially and every three months, the seeds were evaluated for moisture content, germination, first count of germination, accelerated aging, cold test, electrical conductivity and emergence. There was reduction in seed physiological quality, with decrease in germination and vigor, especially after nine months of storage. The seeds extracted from... |

The experimental study design was used to examine the effects of accelerated aging on deterioration of seed quality and electrolyte leakage of cucumber seeds. The original cucumber seeds had 99 germination percentage. The cucumber seeds were taken to accelerated aging process; in aging chamber with constant temperature 450C and 100% of relative humidity for 0-21 days. The seeds were taken every three days for 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21 days and tested of seed quality. After that, the seeds were divided into 2 lots. The first lot was examined for conductivity values and measured K+, Ca2+, Na+, and Mg2+ leakage. The second lot was examined seed quality under laboratory and green-house conditions. Additionally, The results were shown that after 6th days of... |
