Desiccation effects on germination and vigor of King palm seeds Horticultura Brasileira
Martins,Cibele C.; Bovi,Marilene L. A.; Nakagawa,João.
The desiccation tolerance of Archontophoenix alexandrae (Wendl. & Drude) seeds was determined and the most sensitive vigor test for assessing seed deterioration of this species was identified. Mature fruits were harvested in the palm collection of the Instituto Agronomico in Campinas, Brazil. Depulped fruits were transported in impermeable packages to the Faculdade de Agronomia in Botucatu, where the seeds were dried. As the seed moisture decreased, germination, seedling length, electrical conductivity and moisture were measured. The seeds of A. alexandrae are recalcitrant, with high germination percentage (over 67%) when undried (47% seed moisture). Lowering seed moisture below 31.5% reduced the germination rate significantly (<52.5%). Total...

Priming and stress under high humidity and temperature on the physiological quality of Brachiaria brizantha cv. MG-5 seeds Agronomy
Batista, Thiago Barbosa; Cardoso, Eliana Duarte; Binotti, Flávio Ferreira da Silva; Costa, Edilson; Sá, Marco Eustáquio de.
Palisade grass is a forage plant that is widely used in pasture cropping in the Brazilian savannah. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate palisade grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. MG–5) seeds subjected to priming and stress at high humidity and temperature (before and after conditioning). The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2x5 factorial arrangement. Seeds were exposed to stress under high humidity and temperature (before and after conditioning) and five priming treatments [Water (Control), potassium nitrate (KNO3) at 0.2%, calcium nitrate Ca(NO3)2 at 0.2%, gibberellin (GA3) at 0.2% and glucose at 10%] with four replications. Two experiments were performed: Experiment I - seed with chemical scarification using H2SO4 and Experiment II...

Seed viability constants for Eucalyptus grandis. Repositório Alice
FANTINATTI, J.B.; USBERTI, R..
This work aimed to analyse Eucalyptus grandis W.Hill ex Maiden seed behaviour, under controlled deterioration, and to estimate viability equation constants for the species. Seeds were harvested in the growing season of 1999, and the moisture contents were adjusted from 11.3% to a range between 1.2 and 18.1% at 25ºC. The subsamples were sealed into laminate aluminium-foil packets, for storage in incubators at 40, 50 and 65±0.5ºC. The seeds presented orthodox performance, in which the constants for predicting seed longevity of E. grandis were KE = 9.661, CW = 6.467, CH = 0.03498 and CQ = 0.0002330. The usual and inverse relationship between water content and seed longevity was also observed. The lowest moisture content limit for application of the viability...

The effect of fruit maturity on the physiological quality and conservation of Jatropha curcas seeds Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Laércio Junio da; Dias,Denise Cunha Fernandes dos Santos; Oliveira,Glauter Lima; Silva Júnior,Rubens Alves da.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fruit maturation stage on the physiological quality of J. curcas seeds during storage. Thus, seeds were extracted from fruits harvested at different maturity stages based on external color, i.e., yellow, yellow-brown and brown (dry fruits). After natural drying, the seeds were packed in Kraft paper bag and stored for 18 months at laboratory environment. Initially and every three months, the seeds were evaluated for moisture content, germination, first count of germination, accelerated aging, cold test, electrical conductivity and emergence. There was reduction in seed physiological quality, with decrease in germination and vigor, especially after nine months of storage. The seeds extracted from...

ผลของการเร่งอายุที่มีต่อคุณภาพเมล็ดพันธุ์และการรั่วไหลของสารอิเล็กโทรไลท์ในเมล็ดพันธุ์แตงกวาลูกผสม Thai Agricultural
Chinanat Krainart; Kanit Vichitphan; Boonmee Siri.
The experimental study design was used to examine the effects of accelerated aging on deterioration of seed quality and electrolyte leakage of cucumber seeds. The original cucumber seeds had 99 germination percentage. The cucumber seeds were taken to accelerated aging process; in aging chamber with constant temperature 450C and 100% of relative humidity for 0-21 days. The seeds were taken every three days for 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21 days and tested of seed quality. After that, the seeds were divided into 2 lots. The first lot was examined for conductivity values and measured K+, Ca2+, Na+, and Mg2+ leakage. The second lot was examined seed quality under laboratory and green-house conditions. Additionally, The results were shown that after 6th days of...
