Effects of sowing depths on growth and rooting patterns of cowpea and mungbean in a deep sand with shallow water table Thai Agricultural

In some dry-season cropping areas of northeast Thailand, farmers can grow selected annual legumes without irrigation by deep seeding. This cropping system seems to depend on capillary water rising from a shallow water table and seems to be suitable for peanut and cowpea but not other legumes. Seedlings planted by deep seeding might produce more roots under the seed position and could facilitate plants to absorb more water in deep soil because their roots were closer to water table. The present experiment was set up to investigate the differences of growth and rooting patterns between cowpea and mungbean planted at different sowing depths in a sandy soil with a shallow water table. Germination ecology of wild onion: a rainfed crop weed Planta Daninha

Asphodelus tenuifolius is becoming a more common weed in rain-fed area in Pakistan. Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted to determine the effect of different environmental factors on germination and emergence of A.tenuifolius. Results showed that A.tenuifolius can tolerate a wide range of varying environmental factors. Greatest percentage of germination (80%) was recorded at 15 ºC constant temperature; however, considerable germination occurred at 20 and 25 ºC. Light for 10 h photoperiod stimulate germination of Asphodelus tenuifolius compared with complete darkness. Germination was totally inhibited at osmotic stress higher than -0.8 MPa. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da velocidade de deslocamento no desempenho de uma semeadora-adubadora de precisão. Os ensaios foram realizados em área experimental da Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro, localizada em Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ. O experimento foi montado em delineamento em blocos casualizados, utilizando duas velocidades de deslocamento, de 2,5 e 4,4 km h-1, com 16 repetições. Na semeadura, utilizou-se o milho híbrido UENF 506-8, com espaçamento entre linhas de 0,9 m e espaçamento teórico entre sementes de 11 cm. Abstract Background: Substantial losses to crops can occur due to the presence of sourgrass in agroecosystems, which is promoted by its seed dispersal ability. Environmental factors can affect sourgrass germination and emergence. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the effects of water restriction, salinity, and depth of sowing on the sourgrass germination and emergence processes. Methods: Experiments using sourgrass seeds were conducted under controlled conditions simulating osmotic and saline stress and seeding depths.
