Examining the side effects of sucrose for pain relief in preterm infants: a case-control study 56
Linhares,M.B.M.; Gaspardo,C.M.; Souza,L.O.; Valeri,B.O.; Martinez,F.E..
Sucrose solution is recommended as relevant pain relief management in neonates during acute painful procedures; however, only a few studies have analyzed the potentially adverse effects of sucrose administration to preterm neonates. The goal of this study was to examine the potential side effects of sucrose for pain relief in preterm infants, assessing feeding and weight gain during hospitalization and their feeding patterns postdischarge. The study sample consisted of 43 preterm neonates divided into two groups: a sucrose group (SG, n=18) and a control group (CG, n=25) in which no sucrose was administered. The SG received 0.5 mL/kg 25% oral sucrose for 2 min prior to all acute painful procedures during three consecutive days. A prospective review of...

Pharmacovigilance of patients with multiple myeloma being treated with bortezomib and/or thalidomide 56
Castro,T.B.M.; Hallack Neto,A.E.; Atalla,A.; Ribeiro,L.C..
In order to evaluate the main adverse effects of drug protocols using bortezomib and/or thalidomide for the treatment of multiple myeloma, we conducted a prospective study. Data were collected through interviews, clinical observation, and from hospital records. A total of 59 patients were included. There was a predominance of females, 36 (61%) vs 23 (39%) males, and of whites, 49 (83.1%) vs 10 (16.9%) blacks. Age ranged from 40 to 94 years, with a median of 65 years (SD=11.6). Regarding staging at diagnosis, 27 (45.7%) patients were in stage III-A, with 12 (20.3%) patients having serum creatinine ≥2 mg/dL. The main adverse effects in the bortezomib treatment group (n=40) were: neutropenia (42.5%), diarrhea (47.5%), and peripheral neuropathy in 60% of...

Residual Effect of Pesticides used in Integrated Apple Production on Chrysoperlaexterna (Hagen) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) Larvae 117
Moura,Alexandre P; Carvalho,Geraldo A; Botton,Marcos.
Temperate fruit crops are an important economic activity for growers in southern Brazil. However, several pest species are associated to apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) crops in Brazil. Pesticides are largely used to control them and one way to change this is to combine selective pesticides and predator insects. The goal of this research was to evaluate the effects of the abamectin, carbaryl, fenitrothion, methidathion, sulfur, and trichlorfon pesticides on the survival and stage length of larvae and pupae, adult oviposition from treated larvae, and hatched eggs of two Chrysoperla externa (Hagen, 1861) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) populations. The compounds were sprayed on glass plates in accordance with the International Organization for Biological Control...

Side effects of the natural pesticide Spinosad (GF-120 Formulation) on Eretmocerus paulistus (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), a parasitoid of the whitefly Aleurothrixus floccosus (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), under laboratory conditions 118
Tello,Víctor; Díaz,Luis; Sánchez,Matías.
V. Tello, L. Díaz, and M. Sánchez. 2013. Side effects of the natural pesticide Spinosad (GF-120 Formulation) on Eretmocerus paulistus (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), a parasitoid of the whitefly Aleurothrixus floccosus (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), under laboratory conditions. Cien. Inv. Agr. 40(2):407-417. The side effects of the insecticide GF-120 NF 0.02 Naturalyte CB® were evaluated on adults of Eretmocerus paulistus Hempel, a parasitoid of Aleurothrixus floccosus (Maskell) in citrus orchards of northern Chile. LC50 and LC90 were determined by applying the insecticide using a Potter tower in decreasing doses from 0.96 to 0.1 mg a.i. L-1 (corresponding to 1% to 0.1% of the recommended dose, respectively). After 24 h of exposure, the results were fitted to a...

The efficacy of moxifloxacin-based triple therapy in treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials 56
Zhang,G.; Zou,J.; Liu,F.; Bao,Z.; Dong,F.; Huang,Y.; Yin,S..
Recent evidence shows that moxifloxacin could exert an antimicrobial effect against Helicobacter pylori in both in vitroand in vivo models. To systematically evaluate whether moxifloxacin-containing triple therapy could improve eradication rates and reduce side effects in first-line or second-line anti-H. pyloritreatment, eligible articles were identified by searches of electronic databases. We included all randomized trials comparing moxifloxacin-based triple therapy with standard triple or quadruple therapy during H. pylori eradication treatment. Statistical analysis was performed with Review Manager 5.0.10. Subanalysis/sensitivity analysis was also performed. We identified seven randomized trials (n=1263). Pooled H. pylori eradication rates were 79.03%...

(Mirid bug , Cyrtorhinus lividipennis Reuter) 106
Sukanya Arunmit; Wantana Sriratanasak; Jintana Chaiwong.
Brown planthopper (BPH) is a major insect pest of irrigated rice cultivation areas in lower north, central and northeast Thailand. The field experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of nine insecticides to control BPH in farmers’ fields at Suphan Buri, Nakhonayok and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. The results showed that the sulfoxaflor 50 % WG and pymetrozine 50 % WG were the most effective insecticides. The ratios of BPH/mirid bug (MB) in the buprofezin and pymetrozine fields were lower than other fields, which may indicate the less toxicity to MB compared with other insecticides. Moreover, toxicity of each insecticide to MB was investigated using a leaf dipping method and the result indicated that pymetrozine 50 % WG was the lowest toxicity to...
