Abstract Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are antimicrobial agents that have a wide spectrum of action, including against pathogenic bacteria and spoilage fungi. However, their mechanism of action is not completely clarified. Nowadays, scientific interest on biological synthesis of AgNPs is growing, with emphasis in their extracellular biosynthesis by microbial cells, as it is the most reliable and ecologically correct method for production, yielding no toxic residues. AgNPs may be incorporated to biodegradable and non-biodegradable polymers for the production of food packages with antimicrobial properties, leading to greater safety and longer shelf life. However, it is important to carry out migration tests for new food packages incorporated with AgNPs, based...

Green Synthesis of AgNPs Stabilized with biowaste and their antimicrobial activities BJM
Jasuja,Nakuleshwar Dut; Gupta,Deepak Kumar; Reza,Mohtashim; Joshi,Suresh C..
In the present study, rapid reduction and stabilization of Ag+ ions with different NaOH molar concentration (0.5 mM, 1.0 mM and 1.5 mM) has been carried out in the aqueous solution of silver nitrate by the bio waste peel extract of P.granatum. Generally, chemical methods used for the synthesis of AgNPs are quite toxic, flammable and have adverse effect in medical application but green synthesis is a better option due to eco-friendliness, non-toxicity and safe for human. Stable AgNPs were synthesized by treating 90 mL aqueous solution of 2 mM AgNO3 with the 5 mL plant peels extract (0.4% w/v) at different NaOH concentration (5 mL). The synthesized AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM and SEM. Further, antimicrobial activities of AgNPs were...

In vitro biological activities of silver nanoparticles synthesized from Scedosporium sp. isolated from soil BJPS
Panchangam,Rajeeva Lochana; Upputuri,Ravi Theaj Prakash.
One of the important fields in nanotechnology is the development of an environment friendly method for the synthesis of nanoparticles. Many approaches show that microorganisms are the most reliable tools for biosynthesis of nanoparticles compared to physical and chemical methods. In our study, fungi have been exploited for extracellular production of metal nanoparticles. It was observed that in Scedosporium, silver ions are reduced to silver nanoparticles, which was confirmed by UV-visible spectrophotometry and AFM. Optimization studies showed that as the concentration of AgNO3 used for synthesis increased, particles’ size also increased. Size of the particles at different concentrations of AgNO3 was observed to be 79-107 nm with particles being...

Almansour,Mansour; Jarrar,Qais; Battah,Abdelkader; Jarrar,Bashir.
Silver nanoprticles (SNPs) are invested in medical, industrial and environmental applications. Little if any, is known about the morphometric alterations induced by the toxicity of SNPs. The aim of the present work is to find out the effect of variable size of SNPs on different morphometric parameters. Adult healthy male mice (BAL/C) were subjected to (10 nm, 20 nm, 40 nm 60 nm and 100 nm) SNPs for 35 days. Silver NPs caused non-significant decline on the average weight, significant decline in food consumption, increase in water intake, unilateral blindness, tanning fur color and cholestasis together with a decrease in the relative ratio of the liver, kidney and spleen weight to body weight. Mice subjected to 10 nm and 20 nm were more affected than mice...
