Levels of digestible isoleucine on performance, carcass traits and organs weight of gilts (15 - 30 KG) Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Castilha,Leandro Dalcin; Pozza,Paulo Cesar; Nunes,Ricardo Vianna; Lazzeri,Doglas Batista; Somensi,Marcelo Luiz; Pozza,Magali Soares dos Santos.
The ideal protein concept for pigs has allowed reducing levels of crude protein in the diet, since synthetic amino acids are included because the branched chain amino acids may be limiting. In order to determine the digestible isoleucine requirement for gilts from 15 to 30 kg, a performance assay was accomplished, using 40 crossbreed gilts of high genetic potential, averaging 15.00 ± 0.52 kg of body weight, alloted in a randomized blocks design, consisting of five treatments (0.45, 0.52, 0.59, 0.66, 0.73% of digestible isoleucine), four replicates and two animals per experimental unit. Performance traits were determined and at the end of the experiment one animal per experimental unit was slaughtered to determine carcass composition and organs weight....

Maintenance requirement and deposition efficiency of lysine in pigs PAB
Ceron,Marcos Speroni; Oliveira,Vladimir de; Lovatto,Paulo Alberto; Vale,Marcos Martinez do.
The objective of this work was to determine the maintenance requirement and the deposition efficiency of lysine in growing pigs. It was used the incomplete changeover experimental design, with replicates over time. Twelve castrated pigs with average body weight (BW) of 52±2 kg were kept in metabolism crates with a controlled temperature of 22ºC. The diets were formulated to supply 30, 50, 60, and 70% of the expected requirements of standardized lysine, and provided at 2.6 times the energy requirements for maintenance. The trial lasted 24 days and was divided into two periods of 12 days: seven days for animal adaptation to the diet and five days for sample collection. The increasing content of lysine in the diet did not affect dry matter intake of the pigs....

Ractopamine in diets for finishing pigs of different sexual categories R. Bras. Zootec.
Barbosa,Carlos Enrique da Trindade; Silva,Carolina Teixeira Costa; Cantarelli,Vinícius de Souza; Zangeronimo,Márcio Gilberto; Sousa,Raimundo Vicente de; Garbossa,Cesar Augusto Pospissil; Amaral,Níkolas de Oliveira; Zeviani,Walmes Marques.
Performance and carcass and cut yield of finishing pigs of three sexual categories fed diets with different levels of ractopamine were studied. Forty-eight hybrid animals (initial weight of 92.1±2.4 kg) were distributed in a completely randomised design in 3 × 2 factorial arrangement (three sexual categories: surgically castrated males, two females and immunologically castrated males - with or without 10 ppm of ractopamine), totalling six treatments and eight repetitions with one animal per experimental plot during 28 days. Ractopamine improved weight gain and feed conversion of all sexual categories. The best results were obtained with immunologically castrated males, which, in turn, had lower carcass yield and backfat thickness in the belly. In the...

The domestic pig (Sus scrofa domestica) as a model for evaluating nutritional and metabolic consequences of bariatric surgery practiced on morbid obese humans Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Gandarillas,Mónica; Bas,Fernando.
The prevalence of obesity has increased dramatically over the last 20 years. Moreover, morbid obese patients routinely suffer from serious medical problems, especially cardiovascular disease. Medical therapy for morbid obesity offers no substantial long-term benefit, and thus the first choice therapy for severe obesity is effectively surgery. Gastrointestinal surgery for obesity, also called bariatric surgery, alters the digestive process by limiting food intake and facilitating malabsorption of nutrients from the diet. This arricie reviews the types and evolution of morbid obesity surgery performed in humans and proposes the pig model as an alternative when practicing new surgical techniques or improving actual procedures, as well as to evaluate the...
