In vitro free radicals scavenging activity and antioxidant capacity of solid-state fermented wheat bran and its potential modulation of antioxidative molecular targets in chicken PBMC R. Bras. Zootec.
Wang,Chaio-Chun; Chang,Chi-Huan; Chang,Shen-Chang; Fan,Geng-Jen; Lin,Min-Jung; Yu,Bi; Lee,Tzu-Tai.
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the in vitro free radical scavenging activity and antioxidant capacity in solid-state fermented wheat bran and its potential modulation of antioxidative molecular targets in chicken peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). After solid-state fermentation of wheat bran by white rot fungi for 12 d, the scavenging action of the fermented wheat bran extracts was 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and the free radicals increased significantly, approximately 1.5-fold. Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity of 1 mg/mL fermented wheat bran extracts was increased from 100 to 150 mM trolox antioxidant capacity after 12 d of fermentation. Moreover, the extracts exhibited 50% of the chelating capacity observed...

Influence of pH on the growth, laccase activity and RBBR decolorization by tropical basidiomycetes BABT
Moreira Neto,Sérgio Luiz; Matheus,Dácio Roberto; Machado,Kátia Maria Gomes.
The basidiomycete fungi Lentinus crinitus and Psilocybe castanella are being evaluated in a bioremediation process of soils contaminated with organochlorine industrial residues in the Baixada Santista, São Paulo. The aim of the present study was to determine the influence of pH on the fungal growth, in vitro decolorization of anthraquinonic dye Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) and laccase activity. The pH of the culture medium influenced the growth of L. crinitus and P. castanella, which presented less growth at pH 5.9 and pH 2.7, respectively. The fungi were able to modify the pH of the culture medium, adjusting it to the optimum pH for growth which was close to 4.5. Decolorization of the RBBR was maximal at a pH of 2.5 to 3.5. Higher laccase activity was...

Ligninolytic enzymes production and Remazol brilliant blue R decolorization by tropical brazilian basidiomycetes fungi BJM
Machado,Kátia M. G.; Matheus,Dácio R.; Bononi,Vera L. R..
Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) dye was used as substrate to evaluate ligninolytic activity in 125 basidiomycetous fungi isolated from tropical ecosystems. The extracellular RBBR decolorizing activity produced when selected fungi were grown in solid media and in soil contaminated with organochlorines was also evaluated. A total of 106 fungi decolorized the RBBR during the growth in malt extract agar (MEA, 2%); 96 fungi showed a mycelia growth and decolorization activity stronger than the P. chrysosporium used as reference. Extracellular extracts of 35 selected fungi grown on solid medium with sugar cane bagasse (BGS) were evaluated for RBBR decolorization and peroxidase activity. All fungi showed peroxidase activities, but 5 of those were unable to...

Abstract Oxidative enzymes secreted by white rot fungi can be applied in several technological processes within the paper industry, biofuel production and bioremediation. The discovery of native strains from the biodiverse Misiones (Argentina) forest can provide useful enzymes for biotechnological purposes. In this work, we evaluated the laccase and manganese peroxidase secretion abilities of four newly discovered strains of Trametes sp. that are native to Misiones. In addition, the copper response and optimal pH and temperature for laccase activity in culture supernatants were determined. The selected strains produced variable amounts of laccase and MnP; when Cu2+ was added, both enzymes were significantly increased. Zymograms showed that two isoenzymes...

Relationship between cultivation mode of white rot fungi and their efficiency for olive oil mill wastewaters treatment Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Alaoui,Sanae Mdaghri; Merzouki,Mohamed; Penninckx,Michel J; Benlemlih,Mohamed.
Four white rot fungi (WRF) strains, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Trametes versicolor, Coriolopsis polyzona and Pycnoporus coccineus, were tested for efficiency of treatment of Olive Oil mill wastewaters (OOMW) in relation with their cultivation mode, i.e. under the form of free mycelium, mycelium immobilized in alginate beads and solid state cultivation on Petri dishes. Study of biodegradation of phenolic compounds, chemical oxygen demand (COD) decrease and decolourisation of OOMW have shown that Coriolopsis polyzona and Pycnoporus coccineus degradation performances were apparently only slightly affected by the cell cultivation procedures experienced here. In contrast, Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes versicolor showed respectively marked...

Screening of white rot fungal species for their capacity to degrade lindane and other isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Quintero,Juan C; Moreira,María T; Feijoo,Gumersindo; Lema,Juan M.
White-rot fungi have demonstrated a high capacity to degrade organic pollutants, including the insecticide lindane (y-HCH). The purpose of this study was to evalúate the degradative capacities of several white rot fungi species, Bjerkandera adusta, Irpex lacteus, Lentinus tigrinus, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Phanerochaete sórdida, Phlebia radiata, Pleurotus eryngii, Poliporus cialatus, and Stereum hirsutum. Fungal tolerance to various concentrations of a-, (3-, y- and 8 isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) was studied in both liquid and soil media samples. 8- and y-HCH isomers showed the highest inhibition of fungal growth of all HCH isomers. P. chrysosporium and B. adusta exhibited a high tolerance to HCH pollution. The 8- and y-HCH isomers were...
