| Worldwide kelp forests have been the focus of several studies concerning ecosystems dysfunction in the past decades. Multifactorial kelp threats have been described and include deforestation due to human impact, cascading effects and climate change. Here, we compared community and trophic structure in two contrasting kelp forests off the coasts of Brittany. One has been harvested five years before sampling and shelters abundant omnivorous predators, almost absent from the other, which has been treated as preserved from kelp harvest. δ15N analyses conducted on the overall communities were linked to the tropho-functional structure of different strata featuring these forests (stipe and holdfast of canopy kelp and rock). | Fishing with a beach seine for catching small pelagic fishes is a traditional activity in Martinique. Since the early eighties, an important decrease in the number of fishermen practising this activity has been recorded. In the context of high exploitation of reef resources, the beach seine presents a low selectivity, catching too many juveniles of demersal fish. The fads established in coastal areas, have been successfully used in others regions of the world for exploiting small pelagics. Thus, it could allow to favour a change of exploitation style of these resources in Martinique. | Face to the lack of data to assess precisely the spatial distribution of catches and fishing effort and for the environmental characterization of the fishing area, Ifremer has been implemented since 2005 a new project, Recopesca. It consists in fitting out a sample of voluntary fishing vessels with sensors recording data on fishing effort (and at mid-terms catches) and physical parameters such as temperature or salinity. Recopesca aims at setting up a network of sensors, for scientific purposes, to collect data and improve resources assessment and diagnostics on fisheries, and environmental data required for ecosystem-based management initiatives. | La synthèse de l’expertise collégiale menée par l’Ifremer et la station biologique de Roscoff permet de préconiser le maintien des cultures de Undaria pinnatifida dans les zones déjà mises en culture à condition de se cantonner aux pratiques culturales des exploitants installés depuis longtemps, avec un suivi et sans expérimenter de nouvelles pratiques pour lesquelles il n’y a pas de recul. Là où des essais ont eu lieu en 2010 et 2011 (Projet Chaco), il serait nécessaire de faire rapidement un état des lieux de la présence ou l'absence d'Undaria pinnatifida en milieu naturel afin de mesurer l'impact de ces essais. | Fishers from Le Croisic (France) measure all the lobsters (Homarus gammarus) they capture, indicating their sex and whether the females are ovigerous or non-ovigerous. Between 2003 and 2006 and mainly between April and September, 16 884 lobsters were measured in this manner. These self-sampled data were used to study catchability and functional maturity of lobsters. The sex ratio was 50%, and catchability did not change if a female was ovigerous or non-ovigerous. With the help of a logistic function, a relationship was established between body size and the proportion of ovigerous females. | Les Directives Habitats (92/43/EEC) et Oiseaux (79/409/EEC) listent un certain nombre d'espèces et d'habitats marins devant être préservés.
