Actividad antileishmanial de seis extractos de organismos marinos OceanDocs
García Parra, M.; Monzote Fidalgo, C.L.; Castañeda Pasarón, C.O.; García Delgado, N.; Pérez Hernández, A..

Environmental assessment of imported organic products - focusing on orange juice from Brazil and soybeans from China Organic Eprints
Knudsen, Marie Trydeman.
The import of organic products to Denmark has seen a four to five fold increase during the last seven years, due to a growing demand for organic products. Globally, the market for organic food and drinks has also more than doubled during the same period. The global organic agricultural land has concurrently expanded from 26 to 35 million hectares, mostly due to major conversions in Argentina, China, India, Australia, USA and Brazil. While Europe and North America still makes up the major markets for organic food and drink, the extraordinary growth in the organic markets offers export opportunities for both developed and developing countries. The production and export of organic products in developing countries might...

Conclusion of chapter 2: "Organic Farming and the Environment" 7 Conclusion The findings of this study show that organic farming provides a wide range of environmental services. The main results may be summarised as follows: 1. Organic matter content is usually higher in organically managed soils indicating a higher fertility and stability of organic soils, thus reducing the risk of erosion. 2. Organically farmed soils have significantly higher biological activity and a higher total mass of micro-organisms. As a consequence of the higher activity of micro-organisms, in organically managed soils nutrients are recycled faster and soil structure is improved. 3. Organic farming poses no risk of ground and surface water pollution through synthetic...

Evaluation of Inhana Rational Farming (IRF) Technology as an Effective Organic Option for Large Scale Paddy Cultivation in Farmer’s Field – A Case Study from Kowgachi-II Gram Panchayat, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal Organic Eprints
Barik, Arun Kumar; Chatterjee, Ashis Kumar; Datta, A; Saha, S; Bera, R; Seal, A.
Comparative study of Chemical (Farmer’s Practice) and Organic (under Inhana Rational Farming Technology developed by visionary scientist, Dr. P. Das Biswas, Founder, Inhana Biosciences, Kolkata) aman paddy (rainfed) cultivation was conducted at farmers’ field under large scale production in Mathurapur village, Kowgachi-II Gram Panchayat, North 24 Parganas of West Bengal during crop year 2012 – 2013. Farmers from the village volunteered in the programme under encouragement from local gram panchyat towards hand on experience regarding effectivity of organic farming system in paddy. Compost was prepared locally using Novcom composting (Developed by Inhana Biosciences) method by the project farmers taking poultry litter as raw material. Well matured...

Resistência natural da madeira de Tachigali vulgaris ao fungo xilófago Postia placenta PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Stallbaun, Patricia Hellenn; Baraúna, Edy Eime Pereira; Monteiro, Thiago Campos; Vieira, Renato Silva; Sales, Nilza De Lima Pereira; Oliveira, Leandro Silva.

Supporting local innovation for rural development: Analysis and review of five innovation support funds Organic Eprints
Friis-Hansen, Dr Esbern; Egelyng, Dr. Henrik.
In continents and countries such as Africa and India, huge agricultural areas are "de-facto" organic. More formalised - and knowledge intense - methods of organic agriculture has proved potential help farmers achieve better development returns from farming organic. While not commonly referred to (formally certified) as "organic", this huge agricultural sector mainly depend on farmer-knowledge intensive and local innovation systems very much of the same kind that served development of organic agriculture in the west, before agricultural universities and subsequently governments took interest in participating in developing "organic" agriculture. The aim of this study is to follow up on a World Bank workshop on innovation...

Panulirus argus postlarva performance fed with fresh squid OceanDocs
Rodríguez-Viera, L.; Perera, E..
There is a great interest in the growout of spiny lobster postlarva captured in the wild. This activity has been developed rapidly in Asia and especially in Vietnam. However, lack of appropriated formulated diets remains the main constrain to the sustainable expansion of this activity worldwide. Until now, best growth rates have been obtained with the use of high inclusion of krill meal and/or krill hydrolysates which are expensive. However, squid is today avoided as food ingredient due to low digestibility reported. Also, fresh squid has been demonstrated to produce poor growth performance in temperate lobsters, but there is no report for P. argus fed exclusive on fresh squid. This work examines the effect of fresh squid on growth of P. argus...

In 2016, the dominant greenhouse gases released into Earth's atmosphere-carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide-continued to increase and reach new record highs. The 3.5 +/- 0.1 ppm rise in global annual mean carbon dioxide from 2015 to 2016 was the largest annual increase observed in the 58-year measurement record. The annual global average carbon dioxide concentration at Earth's surface surpassed 400 ppm (402.9 +/- 0.1 ppm) for the first time in the modern atmospheric measurement record and in ice core records dating back as far as 800000 years. One of the strongest El Nino events since at least 1950 dissipated in spring, and a weak La Nina evolved later in the year. Owing at least in part to the combination of El Nino conditions early in the year and...

In 2017, the dominant greenhouse gases released into Earth’s atmosphere—carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide— reached new record highs. The annual global average carbon dioxide concentration at Earth’s surface for 2017 was 405.0 ± 0.1 ppm, 2.2 ppm greater than for 2016 and the highest in the modern atmospheric measurement record and in ice core records dating back as far as 800 000 years. The global growth rate of CO2 has nearly quadrupled since the early 1960s. With ENSO-neutral conditions present in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean during most of the year and weak La Niña conditions notable at the start and end, the global temperature across land and ocean surfaces ranked as the second or third highest, depending on the dataset,...
