Grey Correlation between Agricultural Input Factors and Regional GDP Growth in Anhui Province AgEcon
Men, Ke-pei; Zhao, Kai.
In order to analyze the relation between agricultural input factors and economic growth in Anhui Province, the evaluation index system of agricultural input is built from the perspectives of subject, object and tools based on grey system theory. The government investment in agricultural science and technology is selected as the index of labor subject, that is labor-related index(X1), the total sown area of crops is selected as the index of labor object(X2), the investment in rural water and electricity construction is chosen as the index of tools(X3), and the GDP of Anhui Province is denoted by X0. According to the relevant data, the improved model of grey correlation analysis is adopted...

Economic Reason for Cultivated Land Circulation AgEcon
Liu, Yang; Liu, Huijun.
Characteristics of interest subjects in land circulation market of rural China are introduced, which are land supplier (peasant household) and requester (large household). It is pointed out that due to the poor management capacity and market adaptability, peasant household may rent some or all the contracted land in the form of subcontract if someone is willing to offer a higher rent. Having high comprehensive quality, large households may introduce new agricultural technology on time. They are good at operating efficient agriculture and scale agriculture and have strong market adaptability and business decision-making skill. Through establishing the cost-benefit function, cost benefit of rural land circulation subject is...

Bioeconomic Analysis of Aquaculture's Impact on Wild Stocks and Biodiversity AgEcon
Tisdell, Clement A..
Anderson theorizes that development of the aquaculture of a species of fish (also captured in an open-access fishery) favours the conservation of its wild stocks, if competitive market conditions prevail. However, this theory is shown to be subject to significant limitations. While this is less so within his model, it is particularly so in an extended one outlined here. The extended model allows for the possibility that aquaculture development can impact negatively on wild stocks thereby shifting the supply curve of the capture fishery, or raise the demand for the fish species subject both to aquaculture and capture. Such development can threaten wild stocks and their biodiversity. While...

Laws, Defects and Countermeasures on the Circulation of Rural Housing Land -From the Perspective of Farmer’ Rights Protection AgEcon
Mao, Ping; Song, Jiao; Pan, Qiang.
The thesis combs the existing legal provisions about rural housing land from the perspectives of use restriction, means restriction, subject restriction and mortgage prohibition, and finds out their defects, namely, weakening real right, confused knowledge about the integration of house property and land property, the loophole in Land Administration Law, the bans on the rural residents’ purchase of housing land and so on. Then the thesis expounds the harms of restricting the circulation of housing land, for example, it will result in underground transaction of housing lands; lead to untenanted lands and waste of resources; bring about financing difficulty for peasants; do harm to the interest of land owners (rural...

Analysis of the Relationship between State Budget and Trade Balance of Libyan Economy (Period: 2000 – 2008) AgEcon
Maitah, Mansoor; der Ali, A..
The subject of the relationship between state budget and trade balance is important as economic subject, not only at the level of developing countries, but also at of advanced ones, too. Such importance emerged clearly when 1980s witnessed in United States of America a deficit in both state budget and trade balance, which was called at that time as the twin or dual deficit. We can say that the analysis of relationship between state budget and trade balance states the extent of mutual effect between financial and trade policies of any economy, namely; any change in the outcome of either one may affect the other in the same degree. To put in other words, the instruments of financial policy...

Privatização dos serviços de extensão rural: uma discussão (des)necessária? AgEcon
Diesel, Vivien; Froehlich, Jose Marcos; Neumann, Pedro Selvino; Silveira, Paulo Roberto Cardoso da.
The article analyzes and discusses the privatization of the rural extension services according to international literature. To start with, the subject is set in the horizon of the debate of the so called State Reform, which determined the agenda for the development since the 1980’s. Next, we show how the subject has been treated so far having the economic theory as background and we examine experiments of privatization at international level. The analysis of such experiments reveals that the early agenda for the privatization took for granted that the rural extension services − which were a responsibility of the State − would be held completely by the private sectors. However, a series of...

Food Safety Audits, Plant Characteristics, and Food Safety Technology Use in Meat and Poultry Plants AgEcon
Ollinger, Michael; Muth, Mary K.; Karns, Shawn A.; Choice, Zanethia.
Food safety technology can increase a company’s capacity to prevent a foodborne contamination. A food safety audit—a quality control tool in which an auditor observes whether a plant’s processing practices and technologies are compatible with good food safety practices—can indicate how effectively food safety technology is being used. Fast food restaurants, grocery stores, and other major customers of meat and poultry processing plants conduct their own audits or hire auditors to assess the soundness of a plant’s processing operation. Meat and poultry plants can also audit themselves as a way to help maintain process control. In this report, we document the extent of food safety audits in meat and poultry processing plants. We also examine the associations...

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE IN U.S. AGRICULTURAL POLICY: PAST PERFORMANCE AND FUTURE POTENTIAL AgEcon
Claassen, Roger; Breneman, Vincent E.; Bucholtz, Shawn; Cattaneo, Andrea; Johansson, Robert C.; Morehart, Mitchell J..
Since 1985, U.S. agricultural producers have been required to practice soil conservation on highly erodible cropland and conserve wetlands as a condition of farm program eligibility. This report discusses the general characteristics of compliance incentives, evaluates their effectiveness in reducing erosion in the program's current form, and explores the potential for expanding the compliance approach to address nutrient runoff from crop production. While soil erosion has, in fact, been reduced on land subject to Conservation Compliance, erosion is also down on land not subject to Conservation Compliance, indicating the influence of other factors. Analysis to isolate the influence of...

Öffentliche Wahrnehmung der Primärverantwortung für Lebensmittelsicherheit: Eine Medienanalyse der Gammelfleischskandale AgEcon
Schulze, Holger; Bohm, Justus; Kleinschmit, Daniela; Spiller, Achim; Nowak, Beate.
At the beginning of the year 2005 the German meat industry frequently appeared in the media with reports about rotten meat. Since then a huge number of new problems with meat have arisen which have disclosed weaknesses in food quality control and highlighted the extremely sensitive nature of the subject in the meat sector. Contrary to the BSE crisis after which private control systems were strengthened, the “rotten meat scandals” led to more state control. Hence, no clear political direction is perceptible as to whether primary responsibility for food safety should lie with the state or with the industry. The following contribution examines this question with regard to the presentation of this

Effects of temperature and volume of water on the growth and development of tadpoles of Pleurodema diplolister and Rhinella granulosa (Amphibia: Anura) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Maciel,Thely A.; Juncá,Flora A..
The capacity of tadpoles to reduce their metamorphosis time and body size in response to fluctuations in environmental variables of temporary ponds has been recorded in field and laboratory studies. The main alterations in this habitat are related to the decrease of the water level and increase in temperature. However, few studies tried to dissociate the effect of these two variables. The aim of the present study was to analyze simultaneously the effects of water volume reduction and temperature on the development and growth in tadpoles of Pleurodema diplolister (Peters, 1870) and Rhinella granulosa (Spix, 1824) - species that use temporary ponds for reproduction. The tadpoles of these two species were subject to four...

Input output accounting systems in the European community - an appraisal of their usefulness in raising awareness of environmental problems Organic Eprints
Goodlass, G.; Halberg, N.; Verschuur, G..
Input Output Accountingsystems (IOAs) can be used to identify farming practices which are not ‘environmentally neutral’ and thus unlikely to be sustainable in the long term. In an EU sponsored project, European countries were surveyed and over 50 farm level IOAs identified. The subjects covered by the IOAs included nutrients, pesticides, energy, soil/habitat, conservation, wastes (e.g.packagingandtyres)and other items such as veterinary products. Nearly half the IOAs covered more than one subject and nutrient budgets were the most commonly included(91% of the IOAs studied). Looking at the 30 single subject systems, most (26)were nutrients with only three pesticide and one energy based...

Market Access AgEcon
Jales, Mario; Josling, Timothy E.; Nassar, Andre Meloni; Tutwiler, M. Ann.
The negotiation of improved market access in agriculture is crucial to the success of the Doha Round. The depth of tariff cuts will be the main indication of the level of ambition of the agricultural talks and hence the Round as a whole. Agricultural tariffs remain five times higher than tariffs in industrial goods, and account for the bulk of the distortions in agricultural trade. Recent analysis indicates that 92 percent of the global gains from trade liberalization in agriculture result from removing market access barriers. The July Framework reaffirmed the objective of substantial improvements in market access. This is to be accomplished by a single approach, a tiered (or banded) formula for tariff cuts, with the higher tariff rates being

Time dependency of hydrogen - ion concentration and electric conductivity measurements in river water samples of Central Amazonia() Acta Amazonica
Brinkmann,W.L.F.; Santos,A. dos.
Abstract The hypothesis was tested, whether hydrogen — ion concentration and electric conductivity in river water samples of the Tertiary region of central Amazonia were subject to changes in time and due to nature of storage. Over a period of about two months only changes in pH and conductivity of Rio Negro water samples were found to be significant. The total deviation of both parameters in rain forest stream samples was considered negligible for at least a period of 30 days, independant of the nature of storage (laboratory or icebox). The latter results may be generalized more or less unconditionally for the entire Tertiary formations of Amazonia.

Notas sôbre os gêneros Polygonanthus e Anisophyllea Acta Amazonica
Pires,João Murça; Rodrigues,William A..
Summary This paper is a contribution to elucidate an obscure problem which involves relationship of a group of plants containing the genera Anisophyllea, Polygonanthus, Combretocarpus and Poga. Genus Anisophyllea is native in both the Old and New Worlds; Polygonanthus is exclusively Amazonian; and Combretocarpus and Poga are confined to the Old World. It is a very interesting subject relating to the problems of evolution, speciation and distribution of plants, and supports the theories which endeavour to explain the centuries-old story that South America and Africa were, at one time, connected geographically. Taxonomic position of genera Anisophyllea and Polygonanthus is discussed. A new species of genus Anisophyllea is...

Strategies Towards the Synthesis of N2-Substituted 1,2,3-Triazoles Anais da ABC (AABC)
SOUZA,RODRIGO OCTÁVIO M.A. DE; MIRANDA,LEANDRO S. DE MARIZ E.
Abstract The chemistry of 1,2,3-triazoles gained much attention since the discovery of the copper catalyzed Alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction which delivers exclusively the 1,4-regioisomer in high yields. On the other hand there is still no universal methodology capable of delivering the N2 substituted regioisomer. The unique properties of these N2-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles have stimulated synthetic efforts on the developments of methodologies capable of delivering it in high yield and selectivity. These efforts are the subject of the presented review.

The organic and inorganic forms of soil nitrogen and how they participate in the process of fixation, immobilization and mineralization of ammonium in soils were evaluated, after different periods of incubaton, utilizing two soils, a Lithic Haplustoll and a Typic Eutrorthox. The results obtained permit to suggest that : 1) The method for determination of the ammonium fixing capacity based on the extraction with 2N KC1, is considered to be subject to interferences of other soil fractions capable of retaining ammonium. 2) The increase in exchangeable ammonium content is related to the decrease in amino acids and hydrolyzable ammonium. 3) The immobilization and mineralization processes are still held under mil microbial.
