Herausforderungen für den Wissenstransfer in der Schweiz Organic Eprints

Wie in den Bereichen der Produktion auf den Betrieben und der Forschung wird an den Biolandbau der Anspruch gestellt, dass der Wissenstransfer nicht nach den topdown Modell (Technologietransfer) wie in der konventionellen Landwirtschaft üblich erfolgen solle, sondern sich über ein Wissenssystem entwickelt, das alle Akteure einbezieht. Weil die Zahl der Akteure innerhalb der Bioszene stark zugenommen hat, wird es immer schwieriger, diesen Anspruch zu erfüllen. Aus unserer Sicht ist in vielen Fällen eine rasche Informationsvermittlung sinnvoll und entspricht dem Bedarf der Biobetriebe (z.B. Disseminaton: Tips, tricks and lessons learnt Organic Eprints

A continuous dissemination process during the lifetime of a research project is important. However, it remains a challenge for many research consortia as dissemination of intermediate results might have negative consequences for publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Based on an analysis of the dissemination output of eight European research projects, we provide recommendations to researchers on dissemination tools and channels to ensure a continuous knowledge exchange and information flow. We also propose additional criteria to be considered by funding bodies when selecting and evaluating research proposals.

Im Projekt «Mit Vielfalt punkten – Bauern beleben die Natur» (MVP) war das Jahr 2015 von Feldarbeiten geprägt. Zum letzten Mal wurden auf 47 Betrieben ökologische Daten erhoben. Es waren die gleichen Betriebe die schon 2009 und 2012 besucht wurden, und von denen die Hälfte im ersten Jahr ökologisch beraten wurde. Die Kontrolle und Verarbeitung der Felddaten zum Vorkommen von Pflanzen, Heuschrecken, Tagfaltern, Vögeln und Lebensräumen ist zurzeit im vollen Gange. Die Auswertungen im kommenden Jahr werden zeigen, ob sich die ökologische Beratung und die von den Landwirten in der Zwischenzeit umgesetzten Massnahmen messbar positiv auf die Biodiversität ausgewirkt haben. 2016 war das letzte Jahr im Projekt „Mit Vielfalt punkten“ (MVP). Der Höhepunkt war sicher die Publikation des Handbuches „Biodiversität auf dem Landwirtschaftsbetrieb“. Dieses Werk liefert Bauernfamilien und Beratenden verständliche und wertvolle Informationen zur Förderung der Biodiversität. Ein grosser Teil des Inhalts beruht auf Erfahrungen aus dem Projekt MVP. Das Handbuch fand in Presse und Öffentlichkeit eine grosse Beachtung. Die 8500 deutschen Bücher waren bald ausverkauft und eine zweite Auflage wurde gedruckt. Die Auswertungen derjenigen Betriebe, die 2009 eine gesamtbetriebliche Beratung erfahren haben, zeigt, dass die beratenen Betriebe heute deutlich mehr Biodiversitätsförderflächen (BFF) und vor allem mehr BFF der Qualitätsstufe II aufweisen...

Use of rock dust against the rape pollen beetle Organic Eprints

Through the use of rock dust at the beginning of the bud development, the infestation by the rapeseed beetle can be reduced by an average of one third. In the treated area the pods per square meter increased by up to a quarter, thereby increasing the yield in treated areas by around 25 %. Practical recommendation • Optimal time of treatment: The rape pollen beetles enter the fields at a temperature of 15 °C. Therefore a first treatment with rock dust is appropriate as soon as this threshold has been reached and the buds become visible between the leaves and will be reached by the spray liquid (BBCH 52). • Note: Pollen beetle infestation is supported by late blooming, frequent rapeseed cultivation and cultivation close to woodland. • A second treatment...

Nitrogen supply for winter oilseed rape Organic Eprints

Optimal fertilisation ensures that the current rapeseed varieties and reach their full yield potential. Practical recommendation • In conventional cultivation, the nitrogen uptake of winter oilseed rape amounts to 140 kg N per ha for a yield expectation of 35 dt per ha. In organic agriculture, about 100 kg suffice for a yield expectation of 20-25 dt. • The ideal time for cultivating oilseed rape is after grass-clover or legumes. After grains, apply about 30 tonnes per ha of manure or manure compost before cultivating rapeseed. • In dry conditions in spring, an early single application of nitrogen is preferable to two smaller applications. The false seedbed technique reduces the weed seed bank in the topsoil and, as a result, significantly reduces competition of annual weeds in the succeeding crop. • Prepare a regular seedbed 2 to 4 weeks before the planned seeding date of the next crop. • Let the weeds germinate and grow to the 2- to 4-leaf stage, the most effective stage for weed control. • Uproot the weeds to a depth of 3 to 5 cm using a harrow comb or a flexible or chain harrow. • If (a) weed density is high, (b) if you have 7 to 10 days available for sowing the crop, or if (c) weed competition in the following crop is very critical, repeat the procedure a second time before sowing the crop as usual. Control of creeping thistle by stubble cultivation Organic Eprints

Multiple cultivations lead to a repeated physical damage of the thistle. Each time it regrows, it uses further nutrients until it is weakened and a new crop will out-compete it. This method is also effective against other root-spreading weeds such as couch grass and bindweeds. • After harvesting grains, perform stubble cultivation with a skim plough or a completely flat-cutting wing share cultivator at a depth of 7-10 cm. • After the thistle plants have re-emerged (maximum 10 cm), repeat the cultivation 1-2 times while increasing the working depth. • Sow a dense, fast-growing catch crop such as vetch or fodder radish after the stubble cultivation to further weaken the thistles. Black-grass control in winter cereals with hoeing Organic Eprints

Thanks to the use of the bladed hoe, strong-rooting grass weeds can be successfully uprooted even in heavier soils. Other problem weeds, such as cow vetch, hemp-nettle, windgrass, or burdock, can also be controlled with the bladed hoe. • Sow the winter cereal in October, in rows with spacing of at least 20 cm. • When the cereal is at the 3-leaf-stage, control sprouting weeds with 1-2 harrowing procedures. • After using the harrow and as the winter cereals begin tillering, root out the yet intact, well-rooted grass weed between the rows with help of a duckfoot-bladed hoeing device. The duckfoot bladed hoe may also be used in combination with the harrow.

The pressure of the roller stimulates not only the forma¬tion of roots and improves access to water, but stimulates also the tiller of the grain increasing its stability and thus reducing the risk of falling over. Practical recommendation • Rolling requires dry soil in order to prevent the soil from sticking to the roller and ripping out the plants (especially when using smooth rollers). • The corrugated roller must not damage the plants too much. Take special care when using sharp-edged rollers. • Every mechanical interference puts the plants under stress. For this reason, it is advised to go at a maximum rolling speed of 5 km/h.
