Variant Inferior Root of Ansa Cervicalis International Journal of Morphology
Babu,B. Prakash.
Ansa cervicalis is a loop of nerves found in the anterior wall of the carotid sheath in the carotid triangle of neck innervating infrahyoid muscles. Its superior root has fibres from the first cervical nerve that leaves the hypoglossal nerve and joins the inferior root formed by the branches from the second and third cervical nerves. The two roots join to form ansa cervicalis. The ansa cervicalis nerve formation is relatively complex, as its course and location along the great vessels of the neck vary. In the present case on the left side of an adult male cadaver the inferior root was absent and the contributions from C2 and C3 were joining independently with the superior root of ansa to form ansa cervicalis. However no such variation was found in the ansa...

Variation in Clavicular Origin of Sternocleidomastoid Muscle International Journal of Morphology
Amorim Júnior,Adelmar Afonso de; Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Cardoso,Ana Paula dos Santos; Damascena,Caroline Guimarães.
The sternocleidomastoid is a muscle with a great extension that occupies the cervical region and is extended obliquely from the head to the trunk. Its morphology is not uniform, once its ends are wide and slim while its medial edge is thick and narrow. The aim of our work was to relate a case of variation in clavicular origin of this muscle that was extended beyond the half of clavicle laterally, in both sides of the neck.

Variation in the Origin of the Testicular Arteries and Drainage of the Right Testicular Vein International Journal of Morphology
Singh,Royana; Jaiswal,Amit; Shamal,S. N; Singh,S. P.
During routine dissection of a 42 year old male Indian cadaver posterior abdominal wall, variations in the testicular vessels were observed. The right testicular artery arose from the right accessory renal artery, which originated from the ventral aspect of the abdominal aorta. The left testicular artery originated from the ventral aspect of the aorta in almost the same horizontal line as the right accessory renal artery, just below the superior mesenteric artery and 1.79 cm, above the origin of the renal arteries. The right vein drained into the right accessory renal vein instead of the inferior vena cava, while the left testicular vein drained into the left renal vein. The presence of variation of both the testicular arteries as well as the testicular...

Variation in the Repair of a Rib Graft used for Mandibular Reconstruction after 20 years International Journal of Morphology
Pozzer,Leandro; Olate,Sergio; de Moraes,Márcio; Asprino,Luciana; Barbosa,José Ricardo de Albergaría.
Mandibular reconstruction has been used in the last 100 years as a safe, effective and stable technique. Various types of grafts have been used, including the autogenous rib graft; the normal repair of this type of graft has been defined in some studies although some observations have been made indicating low predictability of the growth of this bone. The aim of this study was to report the case of a patient with a rib graft for mandibular reconstruction where after 20 years cartilaginous tissue was observed exclusively in the absence of bone tissue. A 61-year-old female patient presented in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service for dental implants. The patient had a history of 4 previous mandibular reconstructions; imaging showed no alterations to...

Variation of the Origin of Aortic Arch Branches: In Relationship with Plates of Atheroma International Journal of Morphology
Yeri,Luis A; Gómez,Jorge E; Fontaneto,Sergio; Espósito,Marcia.
The aortic arch branches variations have called the attention of several authors, who have handled studies and classifications, both human and in different animals. The common trunk, which is between the brachiocephalic trunk and the common left carotid artery, is the most common variation. We conducted a descriptive and randomized study of the presence of the trunk mentioned before, trying to establish the possible relationship between this variation and the distribution plates of atheroma. The lumen observation makes it possible to define and check the distribution of the ostium, among the common ostium and the ones with common trunks. Regarding the plates of atheroma, it was found that there is a slight prevalence in common trunks cases, with respect to...

Variations in the Branching Pattern of the Celiac Trunk in a Kenyan Population International Journal of Morphology
Mburu,Kimani Stephen; Alexander,Ogeng'o Julius; Hassan,Saidi; Bernard,Ndung'u.
The celiac trunk is the major source of blood supply to the supracolic abdominal compartment. Usually, it branches into the splenic, common hepatic and left gastric arteries to supply this region. It has however been shown to display ethnic variations in its branching pattern. Knowledge of these variations may be important in surgical and radiological procedures around the head of the pancreas. The aim was to illustrate the commonest variations in the branching pattern of the celiac trunk in a Kenyan population. The study was conducted in the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Nairobi. Were collected one hundred twenty three (123) bodies obtained from dissection cadavers and autopsy cases following ethical approval and consent from next of kin....

Variations in the Pattern of Formation of the Abdominis Rectus Muscle Sheath among Kenyans International Journal of Morphology
Mwachaka,P; Odula,P; Awori,K; Kaisha,W.
The pattern of formation of the human rectus sheath exhibits variations, it is not clear if these variations are population specific. This study aimed at describing the pattern of formation of the rectus sheath in a select Kenyan population. Formation of the rectus sheath was analyzed in eighty subjects (47 male, 33 female) during autopsies and cadaveric dissection. The anterior wall of the rectus sheath in all cases was aponeurotic and firmly attached to rectus abdominis muscle. The posterior wall of the rectus sheath was aponeurotic in 71 (88.5%) cases, the rest were musculoaponeurotic and only seen in males. In all cases the aponeurosis of internal oblique abdominis split into two lamina; a deep lamina that fused with the aponeurosis of transverses...

Variations in The Vascular Supply of Pancreas and Transverse Colon: A Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Silva Júnior,L. M; Alexandre,M; Gonçalves,L; Silva,F. S; Caetano,A. G.
During anatomical dissection of the abdominal cavity of an adult male corpse, a changing pattern of vascular supply of pancreas and of the transverse colon was observed. The inferior pancreatic artery and the middle colic artery arose from a common trunk of the superior mesenteric artery. Moreover, the lienal artery did not direct a dorsal branch to the neck of the pancreas, but rather sent two greater pancreatic arteries (proximal and distal) to the body of the gland and one caudal artery to the terminal portion of the pancreas. We also observed a large communicating branch between the proximal portion of the middle colic artery and the ascending branch of the left colic artery, previously described as artery of Moskowitz. Based on these data, clinical...

Variations of Thoracic Splanchnic Nerves and its Clinical Implications International Journal of Morphology
Jacob,Tony George; Wadhwa,Surbhi; Paul,Shipra; Das,Srijit.
The present study reports an anomalous branching pattern of the thoracic sympathetic chain. At the level of T3 ganglion, an anomalous branch i.e accessory sympathetic chain (ASC) descended anteromedial to the main sympathetic chain (MSC). The MSC and the ASC communicated with each other at the level of T9, T10 and T11 ganglion, indicating the absence of classical pattern of greater, lesser and least splanchnic nerves on the right side. However, on the left side, the sympathetic chain displayed normal branching pattern. We opine that the ASC may be representing a higher origin of greater splanchnic nerve at the level of T3 ganglion and the branches from MSC at T9, T10 and T11 ganglion may be the lesser and least splanchnic nerves, which further joined the...
