Converting Upland Rice Fields to Rice Terraces in Slopping Area is one of the chosen rice planting system for sustainable rice cultivation on the mountainous area in the upper northern of Thailand. It can increase more double yield than from the upland rice . Water preserving and soil fertility problems are always found in Converting Upland Rice Fields to Rice Terraces in Slopping Area. Studying water and rice nutrient management in Samoeng Rice Research Center was founded that the yield from 5 water regime treatments were not significantly. For rice nutrient management, the yield from adding phosphorus combination with potassium chemical fertilizer was not significantly with adding nitrogen combination phosphorus and potassium chemical fertilizer. But the...

Converting Upland Rice Fields to Rice Terraces in slope area is one of an alternative rice planting system for sustainable rice cultivation on the mountainous area in the upper northern of Thailand. It can produce double yield compared with those of upland rice. However, soil fertility should be considered when first converted. Therefore, rice nutrient management by Omission Plot Technique has been studied. Results in wet season 2011 found that yield from applying phosphorus in combination with potassium chemical fertilizer (+PK or -N) was not significantly different from applying nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium combination (+NPK) and as same as non phosphorus (+NK or -P) or non potassium application (+NP or -K) in which always showed significantly...

Measurement of methane emission from rice production systems is a methodology for data collection of Carbon Footprint from rice production system. Four major rice production systems were defined for methane emission measurement in 2012, including upland rice, rainfed rice, irrigated rice with good agricultural practices (GAP) and irrigated rice with alternative wet and dry (AWD). Gas samples were taken one week interval and analyzed by Gas Chromatograph; GC-8A as soon as possible after collection. The research found that upland rice could absorb CH4 at the rate of 0.176 kg methane rai-1 season-1. Rainfed rice production system in Northeast Thailand emitted CH4 at the rate of 85.26 kg rai-1 season-1 under transplanting and 51.64 kg rai-1 season-1 under...

Problem of low soil fertility is one reason of low yield in rice terraces because of the soil was less clay mineral content, less total soil density, soil acidity and low soil nutrients are not sufficient for the growth of rice. The crop rotation is one approach to solving this problem. The experiment aims to study the effect of crop rotation on soil fertility and yield in rice terraces. This experiment was conducted the main crop is rice cv. Sew Mae Jan and the experimental design was randomize complete block design with 4replications and4 treatments: 1) rice-lablab bean rotation 2) rice-wheat rotation 3) rice- cabbage rotation 4) rice (check). The results revealed that the crop rotation 4 treatments had not difference of soil fertility between before and...
