Auswirkungen der Feldrandkompostierung: Einjährige Nachbeprobung des "Versuches Witterswil" Organic Eprints

In dieser Arbeit soll aufgezeigt werden, wie sich die einzelnen Bodenkennwerte nach einer Feldrandkompostierung verhalten. Dazu wurde der Boden unter den Kompostplätzen in Witterswil nach sechs und zwölf Monaten nach Beendigung der Kompostierung nachbeprobt. Als Vergleich dienten die Werte der Kontrollparzelle, auf der nie kompostiert wurde. Zudem werden wie Werte anhand Literaturangaben von Bodenuntersuchungsergebnissen aus mehrjährigen Mistkompostmieteplätzen eingeschätzt.

Auswirkungen des langfristigen ökologischen Landbaus auf bodenbürtige Treibhausgasemissionen Organic Eprints

Despite the increase in organic cropland, knowledge on the impact of organic farming on soil-derived nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) emissions is rather limited. To improve the knowledge base, N2O and CH4 fluxes were investigated in a 571 day lasting cropping sequence in the “DOK” field trial. Two organic and two non-organic farming systems and an unfertilized control were chosen. For the whole monitoring, the two organic systems combined emitted 40% less N2O than the two non-organic ones cumulated on area-scale. Yield-scaled cumulated N2O emissions were nearly 10% lower for the organic systems combined, despite the yield gap of 27%. Zusammenfassung: Aus aggregierter Sicht der pflanzenbaulichen Leistung wie des abiotischen Ressourcenschutzes ist festzuhalten: 1) der Futterbau auf den sandigen Standorten der Geest ist bei reduzierter N-Intensität durch geringe Grenzertragsverluste, aber hohe Reduktionen der Nitratauswaschungen geprägt; im Marktfruchtbau des östlichen Hügellandes herrschen inverse Beziehungen vor. 2) Ein Flächenbilanzsaldo von +20 bis +40 kg/ha/Jahr (plus "unvermeidbare gasförmige Verluste") ist als Grenzbereich der guten fachlichen Praxis auf den Futterbaubetrieben der Geest nur durch erhebliche Reduktionen der Bewirtschaftungsintensität zu erreichen. Autumn sown catch crop understoreys as strategy to reduce nitrate leaching in winter cereals Organic Eprints

Under conditions with wet mild winters due to high nitrate leaching risk growing systems with high nitrogen (N) uptake efficiency in autumn are necessary, especially after pre crops with a high N release. In 2003 and 2004 a field trial was conducted in Northern Germany to investigate autumn N uptake and nitrate leaching in autumn sown winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus) grown intercropped with catch crops. The aim of the project is analysis and evaluation of results achieved: resource conservation, energy use, CO2 emissions, nitrogen and phosphorus emissions, and effects on diversity and landscape of the agriculture-society system. Bedeutung der Modellvalidität für die Ökobilanzierung von landwirtschaftlichen Produkten – Vergleich zweier Milchrindras-sen Organic Eprints

In the experimental station of the Thünen-Institute of Organic Farming the dairy breeds Holstein-Friesian (SBT) and Red Holstein double usage (RBT) are kept in separate herds under identical conditions. By means of a material flow FARM-Model, designed with the life cycle assessment (LCA) and material flow software Umberto, an assessment from cradle to farm gate of standard environmental impact categories was undertaken. While the BH has a better environmental performance due to higher milk yields the results depend largely on used algorithms in the model. When benchmarking different farms in terms of environmental performance modeling uncertainty has to be taken into account.

Beisaat von Zwischenfrüchten als Möglichkeit zur Reduzierung der N-Auswaschung in Wintergetreide? Organic Eprints

In a field experiment the potential of mixtures of winter cereals and catch crops to reduce nitrate leaching was investigated. Pure winter wheat showed the highest N-losses (56 kg N ha-1). Compared to a control without a catch crop, winter rye and oilseed radish grown in pure stand or in mixture with a winter cereal reduced nitrate-leaching by 30 to 80 %. However, common vetch had a significant lower potential compared to the tested non-legume catch crops. Further investigations are needed to optimize the system with special regards to the concurrence between cereal and catch crop in autumn and in early spring.

Die Landwirtschaft spielt eine wichtige Rolle in der Erzeugung von Lebensmitteln sowie in der Bereitstellung und dem Erhalt von gesellschaftlichen Gemeingütern. Neben der Artenvielfalt, siehe Volksbegehren in Bayern, wird hierbei der Beitrag der Landwirtschaft zum Klimaschutz besonders stark und kontrovers diskutiert. Insbesondere die Frage, ob der Ökolandbau klimafreundlich oder „schlecht für das Klima“ ist, erregt viele Gemüter. Als Beitrag zu einer Versachlichung der Diskussion wird im Folgenden auf die Hauptpunkte der Kontroverse eingegangen und der Stand der Wissenschaft zusammengefasst.

Below ground C and N transformation processes in perennial grass-clover mixtures Organic Eprints

Leaching of N from grass-clover mixtures have been found in both organic and inorganic form. The environmental impact of this loss is however not well understood as leaching of organic C acting as energy source for denitrifying microorganisms could reduce the negative impact of N losses. In the present project the sources of N and C loss from perennial grass-clover swards were investigated in two field experiments using 14C and 15N tracers. In den USA machen Agrotreibstoffe bereits 5 Prozent des gesamten Treibstoffverbrauchs aus; erklärte Politik ist es, diesen Anteil zu steigern. In der Schweiz gibt es noch keine ausgewachsene Agrotreibstoffindustrie, sondern lediglich Pilotprojekte. Zeit zu fragen, was da auf uns zukommt und wie es um die Ökologie dieser Treibstoffe steht.

Beregninger av nitrogenbalansen på 50 gårdsbruk i kommunene Midsund, Fræna, Gjemnes, Surnadal og Rindal Organic Eprints

Landbruk Nordvest har gjennomført nitrogenbalanse-beregninger på 50 gårdsbruk ikommunene Midsund, Fræna, Gjemnes, Surnadal og Rindal. Dette er et ledd i ”klima-arbeidet” i de fem kommunene. På samtlige melke-produksjonsbruk i undersøkelsen ble det kjøpt inn langt mer nitrogen og fosfor enn hva som ble solgt ut igjen, slik at gårdene tilførte flere næringsstoffer enn hva de fjernet. Det er en betydelig variasjon mellom enkeltbruk. Nitrogen-balanseberegningene for de 4 sauebrukene med økologisk drift viser at det også her er overskudd på nitrogen.

Betriebsspezifische Strategien zur Reduktion des Umwelteinflusses durch Verbesserung von Tiergesundheit, Wohlergehen und Ernährung von Bioschweinen Organic Eprints

In der biologischen Schweinehaltung stellen widerstandsfähige und zugleich leistungsfähige Tiere die Grundlage für gute Tiergesundheit, hohes Tierwohl und geringe Umweltwirkung dar. ProPIG hatte zum Ziel, durch Verbesserung der Tiergesundheit und des Tierwohls auf 75 Betrieben in 8 europäischen Ländern die Umweltwirkung von Bioschweinesystemen zu minimieren. Während dreier Betriebsbesuche wurde die Situation anhand tierbezogener Indikatoren erfasst, betriebsspezifische Verbesserungsstrategien festgelegt und die Effektivität der Maßnahmen nach einem Jahr beurteilt. Mit der M-ISHS-Methode werden Containerkapazität, Luftkapazität und verfügbares Wasser von Substraten gemessen. Daraus kann die Wassermnege für die Bewässerung berechnet werden, die nicht zu Auswaschung führt. Der Beregnungszeitpunkt wird mit hilfe von Tensiometern ermittelt (100 hPa).

Bewertung gesellschaftlicher Leistungen des ökologischen Landbaus aus ökonomischer Perspektive Organic Eprints

Die gesellschaftlichen Kosten der Landwirtschaft sind von großer Bedeutung. Können diese gesellschaftlichen Kosten näher ökonomisch bestimmt werden? Inwiefern unterscheidet sich der Ökolandbau von der konventionellen Landwirtschaft in dieser Hinsicht? Im Rahmen einer Literaturanalyse wurden sieben Bereiche gesellschaftlicher Leistungen in Bezug auf diese Fragen analysiert. Die Analyse ergab, dass die gesellschaftlichen Kosten sehr hoch sind, aber dass sie sich mit der bestehenden Literatur nicht genau abschätzen lassen. Desweiteren schnitt der Ökolandbau in den Studien, die einen ökonomischen Vergleich der gesellschaftlichen Leistungen von Ökolandbau und konventioneller Landwirtschaft durchgeführt haben, besser ab.
