Linhagens de Trichogramma e Trichogrammatoidea para controle de Stenoma catenifer. Repositório Alice

O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar espécies e linhagens de Trichogramma e Trichogrammatoidea, com potencial para controle da broca-do-abacate Stenoma catenifer, considerada a principal praga do abacateiro (Persea americana Mill.). Experimentos em laboratório foram realizados com 12 linhagens das seguintes espécies, sendo: oito de Trichogramma pretiosum; uma de Trichogramma atopovirilia; duas de Trichogramma bruni; e uma de Trichogrammatoidea annulata. Em telado, determinou-se o número de parasitóides a ser liberado por ovo de S. catenifer. ITS-2 sequences-based identification of Trichogramma species in South America. Repositório Alice

ITS2 (Internal transcribed spacer 2) sequences have been used in systematic studies and proved to be useful in providing a reliable identification of Trichogramma species. DNAr sequences ranged in size from 379 to 632 bp. In eleven T. pretiosum lines Wolbachia-induced parthenogenesis was found for the first time. These thelytokous lines were collected in Peru (9), Colombia (1) and USA (1). A dichotomous key for species identification was built based on the size of the ITS2 PCR product and restriction analysis using three endonucleases (EcoRI, MseI and MaeI). This molecular technique was successfully used to distinguish among seventeen native/introduced Trichogramma species collected in South America.

Euschistus heros mass rearing technique for the multiplication of Telenomus podisi. Repositório Alice

The objective of this work was to improve the mass rearing technique of Euschistus heros in laboratory. Nymphs and adults were reared at densities 100, 200, 300 and 400 eggs per Petri dish (9 cm diameter), and at 50, 100, 150 and 200 couples per rearing cages (900 mL), respectively. Survival rate of immature stages and survivorship and reproduction of adults were determinated. Survivorship of nymph to adult was the highest (89%) at density 100 eggs per dish. Adult survivorship was independent of density, and 100 couples per cage were the best to improve quality of the produced progeny. The objective of this work was to evaluate if corn plants damaged by the lesser cornstalk borer (Elasmopalpus lignosellus) larvae release volatile organic compounds capable of attracting the egg parasitoid Trichogramma pretiosum. The treatments consisted of plants subjected to harm caused by E. lignosellus larvae, plants subjected to mechanical damage, and undamaged plants. The parasitoid was more attracted by the volatiles released by the insect damaged plants than to those released by undamaged corn plants, after 24 and 72 hours. Cassava is the sixth most important crop in the world, and it is attacked by many pests, such as Erinnyis ello (L.) (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae).  The European pepper moth Duponchelia fovealis (Zeller, 1847) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), despite being among the principal pests of strawberries in Brazil. However, biological control methods are rarely documented for this pest. In the current study, the goal was to select promising Trichogramma strains to enable the control of D. fovealis and to determine the acceptance of different ages of host eggs by the parasitoid. In the first bioassay, evaluations were done on the biological parameters of five strains of Trichogramma pretiosum Riley and one of Trichogramma galloi Zucchi (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae). Age and density of eggs of Helicoverpa armigera influence on Trichogramma pretiosum parasitism Biological Sciences

This study evaluated the parasitism of Trichogramma pretiosum Riley (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) on eggs of Helicoverpa armigera Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) at different ages and densities. The rates of parasitism and emergence, the number of parasitoids emerged per egg and sex ratio of offspring were evaluated in both experiments. Eggs of H. armigera up to 36 hours provided greater parasitism and emergence of adults compared to eggs up to 60 hours old. The number of parasitoids, which emerged per host egg, was greater than one and the sex ratio remained around 80% of females, regardless of the egg development stage. Telenomus cyamophylax Polaszek, n. sp. is described from the eggs of the soybean pest velvetbean Anticarsia gemmatalis (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) caterpillar. This new species belongs to the californicus-group sensu Johnson, 1984. Biological data, including one alternative host, are given.

Trichogramma spp. (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) can control Diaphania hyalinata Linnaeus (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). On the other hand, pesticides may reduce the efficiency of natural enemies. The objective was to evaluate the side-effects of fungicides used in the production of cucurbitaceous crops on Trichogramma atopovirilia Oatman & Platner parasitizing D. hyalinata eggs. The fungicides used in bioassays were: azoxystrobin (0.08 g active ingredient [ai] L-1), chlorothalonil (2.00 g ai L-1), mancozeb (1.60 g ai L-1), tebuconazole (0.25 g ai L-1) and thiophanate-methyl (0.49 g ai L-1). The parasitoid, Trichogramma spp. was produced using the rice moth eggs Corcyra cephalonica as host. Thus, the study of storage methods was done for the right timing of the parasitoid application during the pest out break. Various storage methods were studied by comparing different set of packed eggs in tissue paper and fire mesh, and unpacked eggs. The eggs were then stored at 5±2°C and 7±2°C for 1-4 weeks. The interaction between temperatures and packing methods resulted in the reduction of egg weight. At 5±2°C reduced fewer egg weight and more larval emergence than that at 7±2°C. Additional emergences were found more in packing eggs with tissue paper than fine mesh and unpacked. The one week storage eggs at both temperatures showed more than 80%...
