The waters of the Seine River are polluted by urban, industrial and agricultural effluents. In addition direct industrial wastes inputs are emptied into the estuary. Within the limits of the Seine Bay program it was not possible to research pollution impacts on every estuarine ecosystem link; so only benthos have been studied. To take time response of organisms into account, the authors have defined indicators or quantitative evaluation of parameters, reflecting physiological state. They have studied population fluctuations caused by natural or man induced effects.

Ce travail est consacré à l’étude du banc à <Venus rosalina> situé à l’ouest du Banc d’Arguin (Mauritanie). Ce gisement est d’un intérêt économique certain, puisque la biomasse estimée se situe entre 1,3 et 2,8 millions de tonnes. Après une présentation des résultats obtenus sur les paramètres biologiques essentiels, une approche dynamique de l’étude de la population a été réalisée. Ainsi, en retenant quatre hypothèses de mortalité naturelle, les courbes de rendement par recrue ont été construites. Les productions annuelles potentielles ont pu être calculées sous deux hypothèses d’âge à la première capture et en fixant l’effort de pêche au niveau FO.1. The black-lip pearl oyster (Pinctada margaritifera) is cultured extensively to produce black pearls, especially in French Polynesia atoll lagoons. This aquaculture relies on spat collection, a process that experiences spatial and temporal variability and needs to be optimized by understanding which factors influence recruitment. Here, we investigate the sensitivity of P. margaritifera larval dispersal to both physical and biological factors in the lagoon of Ahe atoll. The treated habitats have not been recolonized by Lymnaea truncatula . Four aquatic snail species showed an increase in their numbers: L. glabra in the stations of Haute-Vienne, L. glabra, Physa acuta, P. hypnorum and Planorbis rotundatus in the habitats of Indre. The numbers of L. glabra and P. acuta reached their maximum on the third year and decreased thereafter; those of P. hypnorum and P. rotundatus slightly increased from the fourth or the fifth years treatment. The whelk (Buccinum undatum) fisheries in the gulf between Brittany and Normandy have grown quickly over the past ten years. In 1983, 35 potters and 14 dories from Granville harbour and the Blainville maritime station landed 3,900 tonnes of whelk (for a value of 7.5 million francs). In spite of a sharp drop in profitability, the number of fishers is still growing. A presença de cigarrinhas-das-pastagens é relatada em várias partes do mundo, principalmente nas regiões tropicais e subtropicais. São insetos que causam os maiores prejuízos nas pastagens introduzidas e considerados as mais importantes pragas das pastagens no Brasil. Adultos e ninfas possuem o hábito sugador, permanecendo na pastagem na fase de ovo durante a estação seca e, no início do período chuvoso, os ovos eclodem e dão origem às ninfas, geralmente localizadas no interior de massas de espuma na base das plantas. The need to manage marine resources from ecosystem and large-scale perspectives is recognized, but our partial understanding of oceanic connectivity limits the implementation of globally pertinent conservation planning. Long-term studies of Littorina obtusata and Littorina saxatilis populations in the White Sea ArchiMer

The results of a 14-year survey of the populations of L. saxatilis and L. obtusata from one locality in the Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea are presented. The periwinkles were found to be hosts of 10 castrating trematode species. Microphallus piriformes was the most abundant species with infection prevalence often exceeding 50%. Year-to-year variation of the infection prevalence was correlated in the two host species, probably reflecting fluctuations in the influx of trematode eggs to the shore. Long-term changes in population density are associated with the variation of the age structure of the winkles, suggesting a dependence of the population density on the success of the recruitment. Recruitment variations are related to hydroclimatic variations and may accentuate the detrimental effects of fishing. Recruitment prediction requires accurate fisheries oceanographic tools, which are expected to be more reliable than large-scale correlation analyses between fish abundance and climate variables. Modelling and numerical simulations of larval migration of the sole (Solea solea (L.)) of the Bay of Biscay. Part 1: modelling ArchiMer

A spatio-temporal model describing the dynamics of a population of sole is presented. The model is an extension to a 2D-space structure of a 1D model published by the three first authors. Spatial migration is modelled by an advection-diffusion second order operator with constant coefficients. The physical domain is represented by a half-plane with the coast as its boundary. A formula for estimating the proportion of eggs reaching the juvenile stage, depending upon climatic, transport, growth and mortality processes, is derived. Numerical results are deferred to elsewhere.

This paper is the second part of a work on the modelling of larval migration and growth fur the sole of the Bay of Biscay (Solea solea (L.)). The goal of the paper is twofold: first of all, it aims at presenting a numerical application of the formulae (concerning the recruitment rate) elaborated in the first paper. Results show a high sensitivity with respect to some parameters. Then, a comparison is made with a numerical model using a 3D circulation model provided by Ifremer.

The north-American marine gastropod Crepidula fornicata (Linné 1758), commonly called slipper limpet, has been introduced accidentally in Great Britain, along with American oysters (Crassostrea virginica) at the end of the 19th century. Its spreading, enhanced by oyster transport and international shipping, turned into invasion of a lot of benthic grounds along the North-European coasts. When local conditions are favorable to larval confinement and adult growth, the invasion by very dense populations may deeply change initially sandy or muddy benthic communities into similar “slipper limpet communities”. Fertility life table (FLT) parameters are important quantitative indicators of interactions between arthropod population and the environment. By summarizing information on both fertility and survivorship, they can capture chronicle sub lethal effects not detected by acute survival assays (MARINHO-PRADO, 2011; NASCIMENTO et al., 1998; NARDO et al (2001) LIU et al, 2005; LUMBIERRES et al, 2004). Eoreuma loftini (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) es un problema fitosanitario en la zona productora de caña de azúcar de Tlaquiltenango, Morelos, México. Movimentos de migracao e dispersao de adultos da cigarrinha-das-pastagens. Repositório Alice

O efeito do movimento de adultos da cigarrinha-das-pastagens (Deois flavopicta Stal) em sua dinamica populacional foi avaliado em pastagens de Brachiaria ruziziensis na regiao do Distrito Federal, Brasil. Foram utilizados paineis de plastico com cola adesiva para monitorar as taxas de movimentacao. Os dados sugerem a ausencia de um padrao predominante de movimentacao em relacao a posicao geografica das armadilhas. A ocorrencia de vegetacao baixa, semelhante as pastagens em volta da area estudada, aparentemente favoreceu a dispersao, ao passo que a ocorrencia de cerrados ou matas na vizinhanca inibiu o movimento nesta direcao e aumentou a taxa de retorno da cigarrinha as pastagens. Land-use system dynamics and demographic dynamics are tightly coupled. In environmental science and studies of changes in land use and land cover, an unequivocal relationship is sometimes found between both systems, especially in coarse-scale studies. To obtain a better understanding of these intermingling dynamics, we formulated an agent-based model, the MameLuke settlement model, that used a deductive approach to investigate these relationships. The model was constructed based on ethnographic histories of farm households in San Mariano, the Philippines. The model was calibrated visually.
