Soil physical attributes in chemigated banana plantation with wastewater REA
Alves,Pablo F. S.; Santos,Silvânio R.; Kondo,Marcos K.; Pegoraro,Rodinei F.; Araújo,Edcássio D..
ABSTRACT The feasibility of using sewage wastewater as a water and nutrient source for plants is an alternative to harness agricultural natural resource, observing its influence on the organic matter dynamics and soil energy. Our objective here was to evaluate the effects of applying different doses of effluent from a sewage treatment plant, in Janaúba – MG, Brazil, over the physical attributes of a soil grown with “Prata Anã” banana. From soil sample collection at depths of 0-20, 20-40, and 40-60 cm, we determined the following soil properties: soil density, total porosity, macroporosity, microporosity, organic matter, clay dispersed in water and stability of soil aggregate. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with four repetitions....

First record of Corbicula largillierti (Philippi 1844) in the Paraíba River Basin and potential implications from water diversion of the São Francisco River Biota Neotropica
Azevêdo,Evaldo de Lira; Barbosa,José Etham de Lucena; Vidigal,Teofânia H. D. A.; Callisto,Marcos; Molozzi,Joseline.
Corbicula largillierti is a native mollusk from China. In Brazil, this species was first recorded in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso. This short communication reports the occurrence of C. largillierti for the first time in the Paraíba river basin (Brazilian semi-arid), and also considers the risk of introduction of other molluscs invaders in this basin due to the diversion of water from the São Francisco River. Densities of individuals ranged from 33 to 65 ind.m-2 (maximum values of 484 ind.m-2) in coarse sediment (gravel, 2-4 mm). The diversion of waters from the São Francisco river can lead to the introduction of new species, enhancing ecological problems in the Paraiba river basin.

Guidelines for irrigation scheduling of peach palm for heart-of-palm production in the São Francisco Valley, Brazil Horticultura Brasileira
Bassoi,Luís Henrique; Flori,José Egídio; Silva,Emanuel Elder G. da; Silva,José Antonio M. e.
The water consumption, crop coefficient and effective rooting depth of the peach palm cultivated in a Vertisol were evaluated over two years and three months, from planting to fifth harvest, in Juazeiro, Bahia State, Brazil. Plants were irrigated by microsprinklers under two irrigation treatments, full irrigation (FI) and reduced irrigation (RI), and the amount of water applied in RI corresponded to 75% of that of FI. Water consumption and crop coefficient has increased markedly at the first harvest (7.3 mm day-1 and 1.2, respectively, in FI treatment) in the thirteenth month, as a consequence of plant canopy development. After that, plants were harvested every three or four months, and these values varied a little due to decrease of the stand. The...

Bassoi,Luís Henrique; Silva,José Antonio Moura e; Silva,Emanuel Elder Gomes da; Ramos,Clovis Manoel Carvalho; Sediyama,Gilberto Chohaku.
In order to establish guidelines for irrigation water management of banana cv. Pacovan (AAB group, Prata sub-group) in Petrolina County, northeastern Brazil, the root distribution and activity were measured on an irrigated plantation, in a medium texture soil, with plants spaced in a 3 x 3 m grid. Root distribution was evaluated by the soil profile method aided by digital image analysis, while root activity was indirectly determined by the changing of soil water content and by the direction of soil water flux. Data were collected since planting in January 1999 to the 3rd harvest in September 2001. Effective rooting depth increased from 0.4 m at 91 days after planting (dap), to 0.6 m at 370, 510, and 903 dap, while water absorption by roots was...
