Soil moisture retention and mass movement of volcanic soils from the "Sabinas" sector in Caldas, Colombia Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Chavarriaga Montoya,William; Cruz Cerón,Gabriel; Cuervo Correa,Johan.
Abstract The mass movement of soils, are soil, rocks displacements or both, caused by soil water excesses in terrains due to gravity effects and other factors. The aim of this research was to quantify the moisture retention capacity of volcanic soils as a threat indicator in the mass removal phenomena. This research was carried out on soils of the Malteria - Las Margaritas road transept to Magdalena river, right bank of the Chinchiná river in the Department of Caldas, Colombia. Through soil sample design, 3 altitudinal ranges were stratified as follows: high, medium and low. In fact, representative plant cover was taken in the study area, sampling the combination of the following variables: "plant cover" and "altitudinal range". In total, 52 points were...

Spatio-temporal organization patterns of demersal assemblages of the east coast of Corsica (Mediterranean Sea) ArchiMer
Gaertner, Jean-claude; Bertrand, Jacques; Samani, D; Souplet, Arnauld.
The paper deals with the spatio-temporal organization patterns demersal assemblages along the east coast of Corsica. We analysed data collected by the first standardized experimental bottom trawl surveys performed in this region from 1994 to 1999 (MEDITS programme). The use of a multiway table method (STATIS-CoA) showed that the spatial organization pattern of the demersal assemblages of eastern Corsica was highly stable during the period studied. This pattern was structured around three bathymetric areas (i) the continental shelf (between 50 to 200 m depth), (ii) the upper slope (from 200 to 500 m) and (iii) the deeper slope (from 500 to 800 m), but it did not show any heterogeneity in relation with latitude. Along the cast coast of Corsica-characterized...

STABILITY OF OILS HEATED BY MICROWAVE: UV - SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC EVALUATION Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
VIEIRA,Thais M. F. S.; REGITANO-D’ARCE,Marisa A. B..
The effects of microwave heating on the oxidative stability of refined canola, corn and soybean oils were determined by absorptivity in the UV spectrum and by chemical analysis (peroxide and acid values). Samples were heated in a microwave oven (800 W, 2,450 MHz) for 0 to 36 min. Microwave heating produced oxidative degradation in the three oils. Absorptivity at 232 and 270 nm increased gradually with an increase in microwave exposure time (0-36 min) for canola, corn and soybean oils. Values of absorptivity at 232 nm increased from 4.812, 3.568 and 4.183 to 10.579, 12.874 and 15.950 after 36 min of heating canola, corn and soybean oil, respectively. The absorptivity at 232nm, due to the formation of conjugated dienes, was a good index for measuring the...

Stability of some stationary solutions to the forced KdV equation with one or two bumps ArchiMer
Chardard, Frederic; Dias, Frederic; Nguyen, Hai Yen; Vanden-broeck, Jean-marc.
Free-surface flows past submerged obstacles in a channel are considered. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid and incompressible and the flow to be irrotational. The first-order approximation of long nonlinear surface waves over one or two bumps results in a forced Korteweg-de Vries (fKdV) equation. Solutions of the stationary fKdV equation are constructed and their stability is studied, either analytically or numerically. These various solutions include solitary waves over a single bump, solitary waves with two humps over a double bump, table-top solutions over a double bump and fronts.

Stability of spatial structures of demersal assemblages: a multitable approach ArchiMer
Gaertner, Jean-claude; Chessel, Daniel; Bertrand, Jacques.
The present work is based on a set of bottom trawl surveys performed in the Gulf of Lions between 1983 and 1992. A new method which couples the STATIS multitable approach with the logic of correspondence analysis (CoA) is proposed to study the stability of spatial organization of demersal assemblages in terms of species composition. This CoA version of STATIS has provided a clear representation of the stable part of the spatial structure of the assemblages. In addition, it gave an insight into the interannual variations of the distribution of each population around the reference structure. Our results showed that the demersal assemblages of the Gulf of Lions exhibited strong spatial structuring, mainly orientated along a bathymetric gradient. This gradient...

Trawling pressure and environmental changes may affect the composition of fish assemblages. Our knowledge on large spatio-temporal patterns of demersal fish composition remains incomplete for the Mediterranean Sea. We investigated (1) the spatio-temporal stability of demersal assemblages, (2) the relationships between these assemblages and potential structuring factors (trawling pressure and environmental conditions) in order to assess the dynamic of the assemblage structure at the scale of the northern Mediterranean Sea. We analysed a dataset of 18062 hauls from 10 to 800 m depth performed annually during the last two decades across 17 Geographical Sub-Areas (GSAs) (MEDITS program). A multi-table analysis (STATICO-CoA) evidenced a strong inter-GSAs...

Statistical models for evaluating the genotype-environment interaction in maize (Zea mays L.) Phyton
Kandus,M; Almorza,D; Boggio Ronceros,R; Salerno,JC.
Our objective was to determine the genotype-environment interaction (GxE) in a hybrid integrated by maize lines either carrying or not balanced lethal systems. Experiments were conducted in three locations over a period of two years considering each year-location combination as a different environment. Yield data were analysed using the Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction (AMMI) model and the Sites Regression Analysis (SREG). Results were represented by biplots. The AMMI analysis was the best model for determining the interaction.

Status-Seeking in Hedonic Games with Heterogeneous Players AgEcon
Lazarova, Emiliya A.; Dimitrov, Dinko.
We study hedonic games with heterogeneous player types that reflect her nationality, ethnic background, or skill type. Agents' preferences are dictated by status-seeking where status can be either local or global. The two dimensions of status define the two components of a generalized constant elasticity of substitution utility function. In this setting, we characterize the core as a function of the utility's parameter values and show that in all cases the corresponding cores are non-empty. We further discuss the core stable outcomes in terms of their segregating versus integrating properties.

Structural-functional analysis of the oligomeric protein R-phycoerythrin Biol. Res.
MARTÍNEZ-OYANEDEL,JOSÉ; CONTRERAS-MARTEL,CARLOS; BRUNA,CAROLA; BUNSTER,MARTA.
The structure of phycobiliproteins and their spatial organization in the phycobilisome provide the environment for high efficiency in light harvesting and conduction towards photosystem II. This article focuses on the analysis of R-phycoerythrin, a light harvesting hexameric phycobiliprotein that is part of the phycobilisomes. The interaction surfaces and the environment of the chromophores of R-phycoerythrin were studied in order to explain its structural stability and spectroscopic sensitivity, properties revealed by perturbation experiments. Three interaction surfaces are described (ab), (ab)3 and (ab)6. The analysis shows the importance of a subunits in the interaction between trimers, the homodimeric nature of the monomer (ab) and also the presence of...

MELO, P. G. S.; MELO, L. C.; SOARES, A. A.; LIMA, L. M. de; REIS, M. de S.; JULIATTI, F. C.; CORNÉLIO, V. M. O..
The objectives of this study were the investigation of the interactions between upland rice lines/cultivars x planting system, years and locations. The experiments were conducted in the agricultural years of 2001/02 and 2002/03 in Lavras, Uberlandia and Patrocinio in the state of Minas Gerais (MG), Brazil, in two planting systems: conventional and no-tillage. The treatments were 20 lines/cultivars and the evaluated traits were: plant height, flowering date, grain yield and disease incidence. The absence genotype x system interaction of grain yield indicated that cultivars recommended for sowing traditional can be utilized in the no-tillage system. The interactions genotypes x locations and genotypes x years were significant. The Cruz methodology indicated...

The relative importance of environmental stochasticity, interspecific interactions, and observation error: Insights from sardine and anchovy landings ArchiMer
Hosack, Geoffrey R.; Trenkel, Verena; Dambacher, Jeffrey M..
Long-term time series of sardine and anchovy landings often suggest negative dependence between these species, and an array of mechanisms have been proposed as explanations. We reduce these propositions to four basic hypotheses of (1) independence, (2) correlated process noise, (3) interspecific interactions, and (4) correlated observational error. We use a Bayesian approach to develop priors for parsimonious state space models with both process noise and observation error that represent each of these hypotheses, and apply this approach to five long-term time series of landings collected from the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Model comparison criteria suggest that the hypothesis of correlated process noise has the broadest support, where the temporal...

The Stability of Exchange Networks AgEcon
Dooan, Gonul; van Assen, M.A.L.M.; van de Rijt, Arnout; Buskens, Vincent.
This paper develops a formal model of exchange network stability that combines expected value theory (Friedkin 1995) with the economic literature on network dynamics. We identify stable networks up to size 8 for varying costs and investigate whether they are Pareto efficient and egalitarian. Only a very small number of networks are stable. Odd cycles and networks consisting of dyads and at most one isolate are the only egalitarian, efficient, and stable networks for a large cost range. We show that some of these results are generalizable to networks of any size and are independent of using expected value theory.

Under-connected and Over-connected Networks AgEcon
Buechel, Berno; Hellmann, Tim.
Since the seminal contribution of Jackson & Wolinsky 1996 [A Strategic Model of Social and Economic Networks, JET 71, 44-74] it has been widely acknowledged that the formation of social networks exhibits a general conflict between individual strategic behavior and collective outcome. What has not been studied systematically are the sources of inefficiency. We approach this omission by analyzing the role of positive and negative externalities of link formation. This yields general results that relate situations of positive externalities with stable networks that cannot be “too dense” in a well-defined sense, while situations with negative externalities tend to induce “too dense” networks.

Why the dimension matters in ecological models? RChHN
Ramos-Jiliberto,Rodrigo; Hoecker-Escuti,Francisco; Mena-Lorca,Jaime.
In this work we discuss the ecological and mathematical significance of system's dimension in continuous-time population dynamics models. We show how the system's dimension reflects the ecological assumptions and affects both the spectrum of dynamic output and mathematical tractability of the models. We stress that the model dimension is not always the same as the number of state-variables, and we also present conditions under which the system's dimension is altered

作物區域試驗穩定性分析之缺區估計 Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute
呂秀英; Hsiu-Ying Lu.
