Antioxidants effects and resistance against pathogens of Colossoma macropomum (Serassalmidae) fed Mentha piperita essential oil. Repositório Alice
RIBEIRO, S. C.; MALHEIROS, D. F.; GUILOZKI, I. C.; MAJOLO, C.; CHAVES, F. C. M.; CHAGAS, E. C.; ASSIS, H. C. S. de; TAVARES-DIAS, M.; YOSHIOKA, E. T. O..
Immunostimulants in farmed fish diets has been considered an effective approach to health management. This study aimed to assess antioxidant effects and resistance against pathogens of Colossoma macropomum (tambaqui) fed essential oil (EO) of M. piperita at 0%, 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% kg−1 commercial feed during 30 days. Tambaqui were challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila and did not present clinical signs of alterations. Higher hepatic catalase activity was observed in fish fed 1.0% of M. piperita EO, compared with 1.5%. Renal superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase decreased in the fish fed M. piperita EO. Hepatic and renal lipid hydroperoxide increased among fish fed diets with 1.0 and 1.5% of EO. Tambaqui fed 1.0% of M. piperita EO showed...

Hematologic and hepatic responses of the freshwater fish Hoplias malabaricus after saxitoxin exposure. Repositório Alice
ASSIS, H. C. S. de; SILVA, C. A. da; OBA, E. T.; PAMPLONA, J. H.; MELA, M.; DORIA, H. B.; GUILOSKI, I. C.; RAMSDORF, W.; CESTARI, M. M..
The bioaccumulation of saxitoxins (STX) in the trophic chain, mainly in freshwater, are not completely known. This work aimed to elucidate the effects of STX on Hoplias malabaricus through trophic bioassay. The fish were fed once every five days with Astyanax sp. before being subjected to an intraperitoneal inoculation with the lysate of Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii culture containing 97% STX and 3% by neosaxitoxin and gonyautoxin during 20 days. The animal?s liver was assessed using biomarkers as activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and concentrations of reduced glutathione (GSH) and lipoperoxidation (LPO) and protein carbonylation (PCO). In the blood was analyzed...

Subchronic effects of dipyrone on the fish species Rhamdia quelen. Repositório Alice
PAMPLONA, J. H.; OBA, E. T.; SILVA, T. A.; RAMOS, L. P.; RAMSDORF, W. A.; CESTARI, M. M.; RIBEIRO, C. A. O.; ZAMPRONIO, A. R.; ASSIS, H. C. S. de.
The use of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as dipyrone is so widespread that this drug and its metabolites have been detected in effluents and surface water. This study aimed to evaluate the potential toxic effects of dipyrone on the aquatic environment, using a native fish species, Rhamdia quelen. Fish were exposed to three concentrations of dipyrone, 0.5, 5 and 50 mg/L, in the water for 15 days, and hematological, biochemical, genetic and morphological biomarkers were evaluated. The glutathione S-transferase activity decreased in the highest concentration in relation to the control group. In addition, hematocrit, red blood cells and thrombocyte counts were decreased in all three exposed groups in relation to the control group. The comet...
