Misoprostol and teratogenesis in neonates BJPS
Silva,Mariana Beatriz Scabora da; Ferreira,Aline de Assis; Habr,Soraya Ferreira; Bernardi,Maria Martha.
This paper is focused in some aspects of maternal exposure to misoprostol during perinatal period, and the abortive and teratogenesis effects on the fetus. The causes of malformations were revised, taking into account chemical, physical and environmental factors as well as the interaction between them. There are evidences that the practice of abortion tripled in Southern and Northeastern Brazil in 15 years, and one of the most frequent forms of abortion is through the use of misoprostol. In Brazil, 1991, 288,700 women were hospitalized as a consequence of complications induced by abortion attempt with this medicine. This fact resulted in the ban of misoprostol across our country, by Decree 344/98 determined by the Health Ministry. The use of misoprostol...

Moxidectin interference on motor activity of rats BABT
Rodrigues-Alves,Patrícia de Sá e Benevides; Flório,Jorge Camilo; Lebrun,Ivo; Bernardi,Maria Martha; Spinosa,Helenice de Souza.
The present study investigated the effects of t moxidectin (MXD) in some parameters of rat motor function and neurochemical. The general activity in the open field and the motor coordination in the wooden beam were employed to evaluate the MXD effects. The results showed that, in the open field, even at high doses (2.0 and 20.0 mg/kg), the MXD did not alter the locomotion and the rearing frequencies. However, MXD was able to impair the motor coordination of the animals at wooden beam. Neurochemical studies of striatal GABA and dopamine neurotransmitters showed a reduced levels of dopamine and its metabolite, homovanillic acid, without interference on striatal GABA levels. Since GABAergic receptor stimulation had an inhibitory effect on dopaminergic...

Rats offspring exposed to Ipomoea Carnea and handling during gestation: neurochemical evaluation BABT
Schwarz,Aline; Hosomi,Rosana Zoriki; Flório,Jorge Camilo; Bernardi,Maria Martha; Górniak,Silvana Lima; Spinosa,Helenice Souza.
The present study evaluated the central monoamine levels of male and female adult rat offspring exposed orally by gavage to 0.0, 0.7, 3.0 and 15.0 mg/kg I. carnea aqueous extract daily, from gestation day (GD) 5 to GD 21. Several alterations in the monoamine activity systems were observed. However, the major differences were noted between the 0.0 mg/kg and the no gavage control groups, showing that alterations showing that alterations were not due to the alterations to the aqueous extract. The control data showed that gavage and handling of dams were stressful enough to produce a significant decline in 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and an increase in vanilmandelic acid (VMA), indicating decreased dopamine (DA) and enhanced norepinephrine (NE)...
