A new genus of Poecilochaetidae (Polychaetous annelids) in the mediterranean : Elicodasia mirabilis ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien; Ramos, Jeanete.
In the framework of a general study of the benthic communities located on the continental shelf in the Bay of Rosas (on the Spanish Catalonian coast of the Mediterranean), several specimens of a new genus belonging to the small family Poecilochaetidae Hannerz, 1956 were recovered. The object of this study is to describe and classify this unusual organism in relation to the one genus already known in this family. (NOT CONTROLLED OCR]

Laubier, Lucien.
Among a small collection of Annelida Polychaeta collected in the Banyuls-sur-Mer area which I was sent to for identification by M. Amouroux (Arago Laboratory, 66-Banyuls-sur-Mer) were three specimens of a recently described species of Paraonidae from the Breton coast, Paradoneis armata Glémarec, 1967. Two years later, this species was found in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, on the Cretan coasts (Kalo-Limmiones) in the endofauna of a Halophila stipulacea prairie by Harmelin (1969), who described and figured the main distinctive characters of this Paraonidae (the reference to the original description is erroneous, Glémarec linking this specimen to the genus Paradoneis Hartman, 1965, and not to the genus Paraonides Cerruti sensu Hartman, 1965). The discovery...

ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien.
The first record of interstitial polychaetous annelids dates no more than forty years. Presently, the total number of interstitial species described is about one hundred. Up to the present, the large group of Aphroditoidea includes no interstitial representative. A few samples made by Pr Swedmark and M. Lasserre in Bermudas enable the discovery of an undescribed species of an interstitial Sigalionidae, Pholoe swedmarki Sp. n., together with two other interstitial species of Pisionidae and Syllidae, new to the western tropical atlantic. From a morphological point of view, the comparison of P. swedmarki sp. n. with the other species of the genus reveals some adaptations to the interstitial life: reduction of the body size, reduction or, at the contrary,...

Desbruyeres, Daniel; Laubier, Lucien.
Several unknown animal forms have recently been collected in the immediate vicinity of hot hydrothermal vents in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, forming a flourishing community of organisms. A tubicolous polychaete builds parchment like tubes around some of the hydrothermal vents. The tubes are covered with particles of metallic sulfur. This annelid is a new species, and is called Alvinella pompejana, new genus and species. The new sub-family Alvinellinae, erected to contain this new species, can be included in the family Ampharetidae (order Terebellida), in spite of several aberrant features. In addition to its morphological and taxonomic peculiarities. Alvinella pompejana also exhibits some remarkable biological features, in particular the existence of two...

Based upon a large collection from the western Mediterranean, a description of a new genus of notodelphyid parasitic copepod from didemnid ascidians is given. The new genus Anoplodelphys is erected for three new species found in different host species. Anoplodelphys clearly belongs to the ophioseidimorph group of notodelphyids ; within this group, the genus is mainly distinguished by the complete lack of true buccal appendages, feature in common with only four previously described species. The discovery of this new genus increases the polyphyletic trend within the ophioseidimorph notodelphyids. The host specificity is extremely narrow : all three new species of Anoplodelphys live in several species of the large genus Didemnum. Some remarks on the host...

Aquaculture 1974 ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien.
Started in 1967, the first five-year research programme of the C.N.E.X.O. deals with non conventional sea-farming, i.e. the developement of new types of marine organisms breeding. These works are conducted in tight connexion with some industrialists and University laboratories, contracting parties of the C.N.E.X.O. The research has dealt simultaneously with molluscs (5 species), crustacea (4 species) and fishes (4 species). The tests made on scallops (in Brest and St-Brieuc) should lead to a practical application in 1975. It seems that those concerning the ear-shell will have in a short time a large scale application (like in Japan). Among the 4 crustacea studied, the prawn shrimp appears to be the most interesting. The studies made on the sea wolf and the...

Chauvinelia biscayensis gen.
Laubier, Lucien.
In the framework of an ecological study of the abyssal zone of the Bay of Biscay, a new species belonging to a new genus of Annelida Polychaeta sedentaria, close to the family of the Flabelligeridae was discovered. Numerous morphological characters link Chauvinelia biscayensis gen. sp. nov. to a small family recently created, that of Fauveliopsidae. However, it remains difficult to establish the precise phyletic relationships of this peculiar genus.

Colloque sur l'aquaculture - 22 - 24 octobre 1973 - Brest ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien; Reyss, Daniel.

Continuous spat production of flat oyster - Ostrea edulis in running water ArchiMer
Flassch, Jean-pierre; L'Herroux, Michel; Laubier, Lucien; Aveline, C..
The breeding of bivalve larvae has up t o now always been conducted in closed systems. This method requires great care and consequently much labor. Using running water systems, we intended to exclude handling and avoid infestations and diseases without the use of antibiotics . Primarily, we used two cylindrical 20 m3 tanks, both with a filtering sand bottom and air-lift system. The flow was about 400 liters/hr. The temperature was 20 C. One tank was used as the filter, the second as our breeding unit in which circulation was maintained by adapted aeration. Newly released larvae of Ostrea edulis were introduced at four times. Larvae were fed daily at a rate of from 10 Isochrysis galbana, 10 Monochrysis lutheri and 2 Tetraselmis suecica per microliter to 25...

Two stays in Eilat laboratory (Red Sea) enable to gather a large collection of the family Didemnidae. The examination of the parasitic copepods Notodelphyidae found in these colonies leads to describe three genera and five species of Notodelphyidae new to science, all of them belonging to the polyphyletic group ophioseidimorph : Achelidelphgs gen. n., Cephalodelphys gen. n. and Syndelphys gen. n. These three genera are remarkable by the morphological reductions of the appendages : the antennule is the single appendage existing in two of them; it lacks in the third genera. The antenna and the mouthparts have disappeared in three genera. The parasitic specificity is rather strict.A comparison of the evolutionnary trends in both Didemnidae and their...

Laubier, Lucien.
A member of the genus Fauveliopsis (Annelida Polychaeta flabelligeridae) was discovered in different stations of the western Mediterranean abyssal plain. Already known in the northern Atlantic Ocean, this species most probably exists in the northern Pacific Ocean as well. Its abundance in the western Mediterranean Sea leads us to review a number of notions on the absence of a real abyssal fauna in this sea and on the extreme paucity of the deep plain between 2 000 and 3 000 m.

Laubier, Lucien.
In the scope of a systematical study of polychaetous Annelids from the bathyal zone of the north western Mediterranean, a species new for the Mediterranean has been discovered : Chrretoparia nilssoni Malmgren, 1867. Previously only found in the Skagerak, between 14 and 234 meters of depth, this aberrant Phyllodocinae has been captured in the Mediterranean between 360 and 1110 meters. Biogeographical remarks are given together with a brief description of the Mediterranean specimens : despite their small size and lack of eyes, they cannot be specifically distinguished from Skagerak individuals. Description du mâle du genre Rhodinicola levinson (copépode clausiidae) ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien.
The male of the genus Rhodinicola (Copepoda Clausiidae) is described upon a single specimen of R. thomassini Laubier, 1970 recently discovered in the Indian Ocean. The male morphology corroborates the interpretation of some reduced structures present on the female ; the original structure of the male maxilliped separates Rhodinicola from the classical genera of the family Clausiidae.
The examination of a few colonies of compound ascidians belonging to the genus Didemnum collected at Pulau Islet in the Singapore area leads to the discovery of two new types of Copepods Notodelphyidae. Both belong to a genus recently found in the Gulf of Eilat (Red Sea), the genus Achelidelphys. This discovery which is important from the zoogeographical point of view, strenghtens a previous phylogenetic hypothesis. [NOT CONTROLLED OCR]

Documents faunistiques et écologiques : présence d'ophryotrocha geryonicola (esmark) (polychète dorvilleidae) en méditerranée occidentale ArchiMer
Desportes, Isabelle; Laubier, Lucien; Theodorides, Jean.
The discovery of an Annelida Polychaeta dorvilleidae living inside the gill cavity of crabs belonging to the genus Geryon is not new, since this species was first described by Esmark (1878), under the name Eteonopsis geryonicola, based on a collection realized in the Oslo fjord. A few years later, Bidenkap (1894) described it in detail, and proposed the creation of a new family, Pseudophyllodocidae, in order to characterize this unique type.

Chardy, Pierre; Laubier, Lucien; Reyss, Daniel; Sibuet, Myriam.
Chardy, Pierre; Laubier, Lucien; Reyss, Daniel; Sibuet, Myriam.
During the Polymede II cruise conducted by the R.S. "Jean-Charcot" and organized by the Scientifc department of the C.O.B., two sectors of the Ionian Sea have been the focus of a biological study of the benthic populations: the abyssal plain of Messine (abyssal being used here in its topographic meaning, that is to say a central basin away from the coast), and the Matapan South trench, to the south-west of the Peloponnesus. Samples were taken using an epibenthic drag with an automatic closing system enabling the catch of pelagic animals during the haulback and the loss of benthic samples.

Ecosystemes benthiques profonds et chimiosynthese bacterienne: Sources hydrothermales et suintements ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien.
Hydrothermal communities of various species compositions have been described from the eastern and western Pacific and Atlantic. Brine and cold seeps and hydrocarbon seepages have been found off Florida, off the Oregon and Japanese subduction systems, on the Laurentian Fan, near Barbados, and off Louisiana. Biomasses range from 10 to 70 kg/m super(2), fresh weight. Basic microdistribution of species groups in aureoles centered around hydrothermal vents reveals different levels of adaptation to harsh physico-chemical conditions. Two groups of primary producers can be recognized: a highly efficient cool water group with large vestimentiferan tube worms and bivalves, and alvinellid polychaetes adapted to hot waters. Both groups are exploited by specific...
