Changes in arterial partial pressure and end-expired pressure of carbon dioxide in prepubescent and adult bitches undergoing ovariohysterectomy by videolaparoscopy or conventional laparotomy Ciência Rural
Queiroga,Luciana Branquinho; Sessegolo,Gabriela Marques; Santos,Fabiane Reginatto dos; Fratini,Letícia Mendes; Mombach,Verônica Santos; Trujillo,Manuel Eduardo Tadeo Robayo; Ávila,Gabriela Friedrich Lobo D; Cruz,Débora Carneiro da; Valle,Stella de Faria; Monteiro,Eduardo Raposo; Beck,Carlos Afonso de Castro.
ABSTRACT: This paper aimed to determine arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2), end-expired CO2 pressure (ETCO2), and the difference between arterial and end-expired CO2 pressure (Pa - ETCO2) in prepubescent and adult bitches undergoing videolaparoscopic or conventional ovariohyterectomy (OH). Forty bitches were randomly assigned to four groups: Conventional Adult (CA), Conventional Pediatric (CP), Videolaparoscopic Adult (VA) and Videolaparoscopic Pediatric (VP). Pulse rate (PR), respiratory rate (RR), systolic, mean, and diastolic arterial pressures (SAP, MAP, DAP), ETCO2, peak inspiratory pressure (PIP), pH, arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2), PaCO2, base excess (BE) and HCO3 - were measured. Based on the PaCO2 and ETCO2 values,...

Pedicle frozen autograft for limb sparing surgery in a dog with femoral osteosarcoma Ciência Rural
Gouvêa,Aline Silva; Lichtler,Juliana; Scherer,Simone; Mombach,Verônica Santos; Reis,Kauê Danilo Helene Lemos dos; Gonzalez,Paula Cristina Sieczkowski; Sonne,Luciana; Alievi,Marcelo Meller.
ABSTRACT: Osteosarcoma (OSA) is the most common bone tumor diagnosed in dogs and represents approximately 85% of canine skeletal tumors. The most commonly employed therapy is amputation of the limb followed by chemotherapy. However, preservation of the afflicted limb has been successful for patients with concomitant neurological or orthopedic conditions, which are contraindications to the complete amputation, or with owners reluctant to the possibility of amputation. For these reasons, the purpose of this study was to describe the technical procedures that allowed limb salvage through the use of pedicle frozen grafts in a dog with femoral OSA. Surgical procedures consisted of a femoral diaphyseal osteotomy with tearing of the soft tissues; thus, creating a...

Subzygomatic and infraorbital approaches for maxillary nerve blockade in cats’ cadaver Ciência Rural
Becerra,José Ricardo Herrera; Tisotti,Tainor de Mesquita; Baier,Maria Eduarda; Leite-Filho,Ronaldo Viana; Mombach,Verônica Santos; Costa,Fernanda Vieira Amorim da; Monteiro,Eduardo Raposo.
ABSTRACT: This study compared the accuracy of dye placement on the maxillary nerve by using the percutaneous subzigomatic (SBZ) and infraorbitary (IO) approaches in cats’ cadavers. A second aim was to compare the accuracy of dye placement on the maxillary nerve between different untrained anesthetists. This was a prospective, randomized, blinded study, performed in 40 heads obtained from feline cadavers. Three veterinarians (A, B and C) with no previous experience with the IO approach performed the experiments. The SBZ approach was randomly performed on one side of the head and the IO approach was performed in the contralateral side of the same head. For each approach, 0.2ml of 1% methylene blue dye was injected. Scores for length of nerve staining were as...

Systolic blood pressure of dogs at hospital and domestic environment Ciência Rural
Soares,Frederico Aécio Carvalho; Neuwald,Elisa Barp; Mombach,Verônica Santos; D'Avila,Ana Elize Ribeiro; Conrado,Francisco de Oliveira; González,Félix Hilario Diaz.
The measurement of blood pressure (BP) is an important assessment of the cardiovascular system, being influenced by physical and pathological conditions. Certain situations of stress and anxiety during BP measurement can lead to elevated values in small animals, known in medicine as "white coat effect". The aim of this research was to compare systolic blood pressure (SBP) measurement using Doppler ultrasonography in 45 adult healthy dogs in two environments, at a veterinary hospital and at home. Comparison of heart rate, serum concentrations of cortisol and glucose intended to help the evaluation of the stress level of the animals. The mean of SBP at the veterinary hospital was 154.7mmHg and it was significantly (P<0.01) higher than at home (136.3mmHg)....
